it's got character. it's got soul. it's a cold, heartless, wretched whore on a bad day... and a bus station skank on a good day. f'ing dig this thing big time.

This should be on a shirt with a picture of an ironhead next to it. I felt the same way about mine. Great bike man and mad props on all the work.

About your rear drum shatter, did you modify the cam that pushes the shoes apart when you flipped the arm upside down? If not that is probably why it shattered. I have read that happening a few times.
I really like your choke setup. Anything special there or did you just mount the knob and a piece of metal straight to the pin inside? Good stuff
the brake stop wasnt making a perfect contact with the frame, allowing a bit of twist/deflection. the cam was modified, but the stop needs attention. fixed now

the choke...i cut/modified it a bit....

there is sill cable.... the knob's shaft is shortened, bored to accept the cable... then the cable is jb welded into the shaft & shaft crimped to cable.

thank you everyone for the comments!

there are some details to the bike i am not pleased with.... the seat: im no pro upholsterer... not painted yet...
but it sure is a blast to ride. i've got another build/project going on right now, so the sporty is "done" for the moment. plus, its my daily... unless im bringing the kids somewhere, then im stuck in a car.

This is so awesome. Truly and inspirational build. I am lamenting my lack of a garage right now, but you make me feel like as soon as I get a tiny space, I can make something happen with it. Great job!

You've got as much good taste than talent.
Specially dig the pipes, and most of all the tree/fork/drum brake stop, Whaouh !!!
Impressive !!

Do you have a close up pic of this front brake stay finished? (with the cable setup)
You answered a thread about my convertion some time ago, I still haven't finished mine yet...

Absolutelt TITS!!

That front-end end is badass!! Excellent job with the hand tools on the trees, shows what hard work and perseverance can pull off. I would run that frontend on my bike any day of the week and I'm a leafer/springer fan!! Top notch.

Very nice and unique. Lots of hand made stuff makes a bike stand out. How did you support the carb?

thanks everyone for the rad comments!

on a side note: don't kick a sporty over by hand:

checking the adjustment of the valves... i turned it over a bit by hand... bumped down the kicker a couple times getting the #1 exhaust valve to go down... and boom. fucker kicked back.
hopped around the driveway for a minute, cussing...
then went back to what i was doing.
couple days later my daughter was born.
fast forward a week.... and it occurs to me that my wrist/thumb is pretty painful. still. actually, more painful than when it had happened.

eh... i can still pull the clutch, so no biggie. should be back to normal in a few more weeks.

weird thing is.... i was barely moving the kicker... i've never had a mag fire at that low of a speed & i've been wrenching on harleys for 20 some years (other mag fired stuff for another 8 or so years). first time for everything

the intake is a Branch... shovels & sporties used the same intake, so they're reasonably easy to find. i got it when i was running a Mikuni, but it works equally well with the CV (or any spigot mount, for that matter). i'm also running one of them there o-ring elimination kits. basically some spacers & rubber bands like modern harleys use. they work great & a lot easier to seal than the f'ing o-rings were.
