Rims Question

Probably a dumb question, but do rims have a set of informative numbers like tires do.
Been trying to locate some spoked rims without a rear drum for my XS650. If I can't find any original ones then I'll look elsewhere. I'm just not sure if its just a matter of measuring my rims or going by some number like tires.

Thanks for any info.

I too would like a spoked rear wheel for my xs that has the disc brake set up, as my xs has the mag with the disc brake, so far, I only have a sohc cb750 super sport spoked rear wheel with the disc brake set up, if it is possible, I would change it over to the cb750 one, and the cb750 one is an F type, the only thing I see as a problem is the sprocket, the cb750 one is much bigger than the xs650 sprocket,

The only numbers I'm aware of that are consistently on rims is the diameter and width. It's usually cast or stamped on there somewhere. The two biggest things to worry about in finding a wheel to swap in is bearing size, and hub width. You want something to fit your axle that you can align with the chain. Then like swine mentioned you need to check what sprocket sizes are available, but keep in mind any tire size changes effect the gear ratio too. I know there are lists of axle sizes out there that can give you a good starting point for wheels that might swap on. Or I'm sure there is an XS650 forum somewhere with a list of wheels that make for an easier swap.
