Condition of pistons

At the moment I am thinking clean everything up and bolt it back together. But other half says go wild tuning the shit outta it. I am dying to get riding so may just rebuild asap, as the so called summer is running away.

Parts to visit the missus dish washer

The old dishwasher trick is pretty cool. Cyclex for all your cb750 needs. They specialize in cb750's, and not just resto job's. Hot rod shit too. They usually have the gaskets and most any other odd part you need in stock.

Pretty sure there is a way to gain some compression in that motor. I'm thinking a k style block with that F1 head. Not positive though. SOHC4.com forum has some good tuning reads. You don't have to bore these engines over to get them pulling hard. they just need to breath.

Yeh have been in contact with cycle x they have some cool bits. Gonna get their k&n filter and maybe a hotter cam to liven the engine up a bit. Any tips for porting and polishing easy speed? Any pics of your head?

Yeah, I guess some one has had a play at some point judging by the state of the cross heads that hold the plate in position. Another job for the glorious impact driver.

The contact breaker assembly on the f1 (mine pictured) is completely different to the one illustrated in my shop manual. Any ideas how to time this mutha up?

May just try and pull it apart and have a fish for info on the net and use the shop manual may be similar.

Any help appreciated!!!

I did my porting and slight polish with a die grinder and a small flap wheel. There are articles if you search them out. SOHC4 and hondachopper garage might have a few good reads. I just opened the intake and exhaust a little bit. There is a lump in the cast just before the valve guides. I've seen pics of heads that had remmed most of that out. I left mine ground out. smooth but not polished. It helps with the atomizing of the fuel.

But then again my head is a K series and I believe the F series had bigger valves and actually breath a bit better too. F series has a lower compression and cam size also....I think , it's been awhile since I read up on these.

Had a look at the head. Gonna clean it up with a brass wire wheel then give it a polish with some 80 grit.

Cleaned up valves today, along with the head and also lapped valves!

Didn't have a vice so used a bit of wood!

Right, so everything is looking ready for rebuild then I checked all the piston rings.

All looked ok apart from one ring which is flush with the piston.

(highest ring on piston)

So am I looking at a set of new rings?

All other pistons look like this

Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

It's been a while since I updated this! Well a lots happend in a few months with me losing space to work on the bike and the mrs nagging so I was forced to put her up on eBay! Sold it on to a sound bloke who has kept in touch and sent me some pics of how she currently stands!

Slightly different approach to what I had I mind but still a great looking bike with some nice lines! Glad it went to a good home and not some ding bat! Hopefully I will return in the new year!!!
