triumph fork shortening info ( bad photoshopped pics)

i have a old triumph chopper. ( 69ish)

i think they are extended 6" .. but i want them shorter.

i have never touched motorcycle forks in my life.



what year are my forks? (any special name?)

can i cut the 6+ over tubes?

do i need to cut/get shorter springs?

what size? diameter? etc?

kinda hard to tell with those pics what year(s) they are. but everything looks pretty good on them from what i can see.
if you are asking if you need to buy new parts for them after they are shortened,my answer would be no.


or you can go buy yourself some new stock length tubes from Emgo.

For what its worth...as to the year, they're pre-oif, so pre-70, that single leading shoe hub is pre-68 i think , so i'm gonna SWAG it and say 1965 give or take a year. as to the size, i have no idea, never heard anyone refer to triumph fork tubes by diameter as that style is all the same. The springs sit against the bottom tree in a stock configuration, so they're extended whatever the distance is from the top of the springs to the bottom of the triple tree. As 2 cutting the tubes, i have no idea I've never done it, but you shouldn't need new springs.

you know you can call anywhere and order two brand new stock length fork tubes for about $100.
you better check and see if those tubes are even straight before you go spending money on shortening them, oversize tubes had a habit of bending right at the bottom of the trees.

im assuming now these are pre 70 triumph forks? (seems vague since most triumph forks i see don't look like mine)

im also assuming the springs do not need to be cut?

your forks are mid 60's unit forks, pre 1968, the most common forks out there and other that the internal dampening there was very little that changed from 1964 through 1970.
chances are if you order stock 1967 tubes you'll be fine,
it doesn't look the same because you are missing a bunch of stock shit off the forks, all the covers, spring stops, gators etc. you need to get a mid 60's Triumph "parts books" (not a manual) and it will list out all the stuff you are missing as well as the part number of everything you will need.
