XS650s .... should I buy?

I have a chance to buy 2 XS 650s from a friend's brother. One is an ('83) heritage special, not sure on the other. The '83 is good to go as far as title, etc., as it has been registered and ridden last year. I have heard that it is in good+ shape. Not sure on the other. He wants $600 for both. I figured, even if I had to go through the hoops on getting a title, etc. on the 2nd one, I could do that and sell one for enough to recoup the money for me to get the other one chopped and rideable. That sound about right, or no?

Wow 2x for 600? I wouldn't even think about it twice. XS's in my area in running good condition go for 1,100+. I bought mine which needed: re-wiring, rotor, fork rebuild, tail light, rear suspension, gas tank, fuel lines, petcocks, almost new carbs, exhaust, new engine covers, new sprockets, new chain... the list goes on and i paid 900 (way over paid it was the only one available at the time so i said screw it i waned to get my hands dirty!)

If the other has a right side engine cover with sight glass and you want to part it out i would love to make an offer for it! Maybe that and some other covers / misc parts.

I see two options.

1. Buy them.
or
2. Regret not buying them.

That's funny. It's like you walked into a fat camp and said "This guys was gonna sell me two boxes of cookies for 5 bucks but he's not sure if some of the cookies might be smashed up..." what did you think everybody was gonna say!?!? HAHAHA!!!

Ride and enjoy the '83 this year . Get it running right. Then you could 1. use the parts from the other bike once polished, powdercoated, whatever on the '83 (swap) or 2. Sell additional parts to fund off season build of '83.

Dude, no question:

BUY THEM!!!!!!!

Here in Cali, 1 of questionable mechanical status, goes for at least 1200, or more!

Just a suggestion, if you pass, maybe you might be able to help out someone here buy em from your friend for that price. I'm sure there's quite a few here with that coin, lookin for those bikes.....

i bought this piece of crap that didn't run but had compression for $750.

now i have put over $1000 into it and i have all of the parts to set it up and get it running. don't know if that helps you make any decisions. i think it's an amazing price. now it looks like this just waiting to get the tank mounted and fab a few items to get it on the road.
