Lowbrow Dirtster Build

Like I said from the beginning I built this to ride, starting with a good long distance ride from Ohio to Alabama this week. I decided to build a sissy bar, but I built it to be fully removable so I do not have to run it all the time. This is purely for gear, not aesthetics. I started with some aluminum fill rod and got the bend and dimensions I wanted. I laid out the lines and bungs for bend points on a 1/4" sheet of steel and grabbed some 1/2" stainless steel rod.

A little ox-acetalene makes this job real easy!

You can see as I bent I also laid the wire form on top to make sure I was getting the bends just right. I cut the loop to length and tacked it to the stainless bungs bolted to the bike's rear frame rails

I made stainless gusset plates to attach to the second set of bungs to keep the bar vertical, and drilled holes in them for additional strapping points. I also cut and welded in two cross bars for rigidity and again additional points to strap my gear to.

I am really happy with how this all came out, and I have strapped gear to it and rode, it works great and with my pack strapped to it I can lean back and have some nice back support for long rides.

Nice work, thanks for the update. I think that sissy bar looks great, def matches the purpose and style of this bike, and yeah, they are a necessity.

I also think you've influenced my next change on my bike. I just got back from a ride to a friends farm in north central Kansas and those beartrap pegs would have been real nice. Every time a semi blew by me in the opposite direction my feet would damn near slip off my pegs.

man i wish i knew you sold chain conversions. i have ordered a tank and a bunch of shit a couple weeks ago.

the 16th of last month i ordered the chain conversion from ledsled and still nothing. lol live and learn i suppose

We will be selling them for earl and late sportsters, and each kit will be set specifically to match the stock gearing ratios for 883 and 1200 models! I sorted out all the combinations and this bike was the guinea pig, a few hundred miles and flawless so far, this week we are heading to the Dixie Roundup, 1500 miles round trip, so that will make sure it is flawless and we will start carrying them right away!

It is the Drag Specialties kit for this model/year, made in Japan, the quality and performance are great so far!

This is great. I think I've been copying you without even knowing it. This is in general what I have in my head for the sportster I'm working on at the moment. I've got ideas for some different details, but you have nailed the look.

What a cool machine. I'd love to be in the US ripping some dirt tracks on that thing!
