    Fast and Dirty 1250 build.

so i finally bit the bullet and bought a 1250 kit. didn't have money to go with headwork at the time, but this should suffice for now. found some great threads on xlforum to help with it, and Dan from nrhs was also invaluable.

anyway, not the greastest photo-documentation, but i did manage to snap some pics with my phone along the way.

this is the workspace i made in my garage. kinda cold and wet, so the carpet scrap helps.

tank off and starting to get to work.

    rocker tops off

    rockers off

    heads off

    cylinders off

naked motor... cam cover off too, because i was chopping my cam cover, which leads me to this.

i bought a new cam cover to chop and have readdy for the install. nice and shiny.

except it looks like this on the inside...

and the one i took off my bike looks like this.

i didn't pay enough attention, and didn't know there was a difference. so, i had to cut my cover anyway.

    starting with a hacksaw

and finished up with a dremel and sandpaper

    new cylinders on

    new cams in

heads on, cam cover back on

    cam and sprocket cover chopped

everything back on and buttoned up.

just finished my 1, 2, 3, and 4 minute heat cycles today. unfortunately, mid-michigan snow prevents me from starting the break-in at the moment, but it is melting, so if the roads dry up i might try to get some miles on this week.

Looks like you had fun. Who did you go through for the 1250 kit, NRHS?

                  hey guys,

all super basic tools to do the conversion... most hi-tech or expensive thing was a torque wrench. that little manifold z-wrench will make the job easier, but it can be done without it.

i kinda took my time to finish, and at times was waiting for answers to questions i had. if i had to do another one, it could easily be done in a weekend, probably even a day if that's all you were doing.

but most importantly, it's not just a mermaid... it's a naked unicorn mermaid,, torso provided from a text message i got from a girl i'm in school with. my buddy owns a graphics business so we brainstorm ridiculous ideas and change them up quite regularly. this one also has lightning bolts, eagles, and "Ed Harley" badging in the motif of "ed hardy." absolutely, disgustingly awesome. but i do think it is probably time to peel it off and slap something new on.
