Old-Stf project: 1937 ULH 86" stroker flathead

Here is our new project actually started by my father Rick about six months ago during project 45 build. Unfortunately I failed to get photos and this thread is started late but not to late. Motor is already completely rebuilt starting with a 41up larger crank pin and Truett Osborn stroker wheels which are 4 5/8" stroke and 12 lbs heavier than stock for max torque. It yields 86" at it's current bore, and the finish was left as found. The entire bike will be built "as found" much like the knuckle we did a couple years ago. 1937 is the first year for the u series with recirculating oil pump system. It's also the second year for Harley's four speed and 80" flathead motor. Knucks came out in 36 but only yielded 61" until later years so the big ULH 80" was still prefered by many. The parts aside the gas tanks and motor are the same as a knuckle. Thanks for watching.

Excited to watch this Mike. I like the "as found" direction. Finish by Father Time and Mother Nature.

right on, glad there is some interest. I found this photo buried in my wife's computer, looking for more but we are still at bare frame start here. Finished the frame work yesterday so I will post some photos. These types of builds are fun because they are quick, no waiting for paint, powdercoat or chrome and we don't have to worry about scratching anything while wrenching. It will be simple but solid and have lots of old character.

to funny, Gabe has a way of motivating me into work and commitment. It's some sort of mind trick. I have decided not to work on anything for customers until we build some bikes for my dad and myself. This one will be for dad even though he says it's for me but the overall bike is his vision, I have only talked him into a few details. I have not decided what to build for myself but Gabe is pushing me in a direction for another flathead. I like the idea but don't want to become sick of flattys so considering a knuck or pan also. Truth is I would rather build a stroked shovel more than anything right now but have none to build and little money to buy anything. no sorry that's not an invite for trades.

I disagree but thanks
closest thing to porn here is the seat post bushing that had a long life without lube.

I'll encourage you in any direction you decide, but I know how easy it is to get side-tracked and then wait until it's just too late when customers stuff is on the bench. The bike we talked about with the big flatty is a dream build that would be top tier wherever it went. That being said, I think anything that's built to your vision and given the necessary man hours by your hand will rock out with it's cock out. I'm definitely pulling out a few tricks on my shovel build knowing it's gonna sit next to your bike!

Well said Gabe. I've had that idea in my head for over 7 years now and actually mocked something up back then. I should just do it already. I appreciate your support. I need to get off the computer and work

Gonna be nice Mike. I was taking that direction as well with my sons 41 45" bobber. Less hassle and easy assembly.

Nice that frame is in good shape. Here is ours it needed one repair (top motor mount) Just cut a repo peice and fitted it in. The rest of the frame is nice un cut.

Oil Tank

Here is the 1937 oil tank. The feed port is pretty trick, I think a one year only deal. The fitting has a check valve that blocks the flow when you unbolt the line. Simply reconnect your drain line to your drain pan and it flows out. I guess later they decided a drain plug would be easier.
