Should I trade my cb175 for a virago 1100

I bought this cb175 cheap to either let my girl learn how to ride on or flip it for some cash. Been trying to sell it on and off for 3 months and no takers. I found a guy that has a running virago 1100 in pretty good shape and he says he will trade me. I just don't know anything about viragos. I saw it and heard it run and it sounds good. Any opinions would help. I don't have a pic of the virago, sorry.

The only thing I know about the Viragos stock is that the starter had issues on some models and was hard to access. I was warned off them by several stock and chop riders.

I wouldn't. I love a classic stcoker. That CB is one fine machine. But depends on which you think would be more useful.

I would think that Honda would be a HELL of a lot harder to find than an ugly ass Virago. I'd say keep the Honda.

out of curiosity, what are you asking? After the holidays I'm going to be looking for one of those.

I'm trying to get as close to 1500 as i can. The honda is sweet but i have no use for it. I really want to sell it and buy a new tig set up but no takers. I figure I can build something out of the virago that is more 2 up friendly than my other bikes.

Worked on and rode a 1100 at the shop....

Gotta funky secondary tank an pump setup on the fuel. Frame is weird. Heavy as a tank and won't get out of their own way. Sorry to the virago lovers but I'd steer clear

I think...

The starter issues are limited to the XV750's. The factory always had crappy starters fitted to the things, but the first two years, '82 & '83, are the worst. To my knowledge the 1100's suffered no such problems. Starters on the XV's are not too bad to access. To fully address the issue, the left sidecover has to come off, but who cares?

They are slow. They are heavy. They also are extremely cramped. If you're a small guy, you could be comfy, but I am truly amazed at how tiny such a 'big' bike can be. The bikes sound strange to me - it's a Veetwin, obviously, but they sound like shit to my ears when they've been uncorked.

The lack of downtubes gives me the willies when I think about frame modfication.

i love my xv but that honda has alot more going for it than a virago. Unless the virago is in show room condition and has little to no miles on it i wouldnt trade it. There are complicated to work on unless you plan on tearing evreything off and starting from scratch..... even then hard to work with.

I think I'm gonna do the trade. The honda is too nice to cut up and too small and slow even if it wasn't so nice. I like it but I have no use for it. Also tired of the bullshit of trying to sell it. I've seen a couple good looking viragos on line so I know I will at least have something to do over the winter. I'm bored already I'm starting to think of stuff to re-do on my other bikes.

I had a 81 virago 920 That thing was a bitch to get running right but when it did it was badass. Yeah some of the earlier models defiantly had starter issues mine did. i like it because it was the first Japanese V-twin and it looked good polished or rusted it was just mean looking and when i took out the baffles it was louder than most of my friends Harley's. Its also a really comfortable for long trips especially for two people. Only thing is if your wanting to do any modification good luck the engine inst supported on the bottom all working on the top of the frame if i remember. It was defiantly a little weird. Plus the suspension was adjustable with compressed air that was cool. Id do it 110CC isn't worth it but that's just my opinion buddy.

Well I traded the honda for the virago. It's a piece of shit but it will keep me busy for the winter. My goal is to build something out of it for as cheap as possible. So far I'm into it for $250 total including a brand new set of tires. Been working on it a little here and there over the last couple of weeks. First I started taking all the stupid shit off of it to see what it could look like. Got the honda tank for free when I picked up the bike. Once I got the ride height how I liked it I made a set of struts. Then I used a front fender off one of my gs550s that I reworked to fit the tire better. Then I made a simple sissy bar to mount the fender. I made the seat and the hinge the other day and mounted it up last night. Still have lots to do and I know its not gonna be the sweetest bike out there but it will keep me out of trouble for the winter.
