wouldnt that be counter-intuitive? i mean, in the "technical" dictionary (and i may be wrong, someone will correct me.) a "bobber" is a bike you take shit off of, making it more simple and in a sense a bare bones no frills bike that gets the job done. a chopper you cut up the frame.

going into mono shock bikes it tends toward the sportbike or mass produced choppers of the 2000's tv shows ala biker build off etc.

point is, it would be kinda counter intuitive. i mean, its kinda like putting a corvette engine and flat screen TV's into a skoda.....

Here you go BMX.. google found these. I like google when searching for bike pics more than this site mainly because it doesn't give it's unwarranted opinion every fucking time I search for something.

Skoda were originally an Eastern European car company, along with the likes of Lada and Yugo - considered to be absolute bollocks!! They opened the door to jokes like "what do you call a Lada with a sunroof? A skip!" and "What do you call a skoda with twin exhausts? A wheelbarrow" etc.

Some years back, Skoda were bought out by VW and have since seriously gotten their act together.

If Skodas aren't allowed in the US, is it the same thing for the newer VW's? Their "Blue Motion" technology gives SERIOUS mpg!!

Regarding the monoshock being "counter intuitive" - surely as long as all the main frills and fancies are removed, it can still be classed as a "bobber" but a soft tail version as opposed to a hard tail one.

    Just a thought.

    "Here ya go"

Dave, Now that's a Real Bobber, It gets tiring seeing the term Bobber used WAY too often & misused so much.
So......How about a pic of the primary side........

    hahahahahaha.

Well I chopped my frame way forward and lost the upper shock mounts in the process. the original plan was just to remount the tops right under the seat (almost how HDs are) but now the spring contacts the frame and holds the eye a good 2" away from the gusset I was planning on mounting it to. Now i'm just playing with ideas of what to do.

    Bobbed?

    Hell,
If YOU have a knuck or a pan and it is indeed "Bobbed" in the traditional sense......would you even call it a "Bobber"?

Just sayin, even if it were me who stripped all the parts off of a Complete ULH.......would it even "Technically" be a bobber if it weren't done back in the 50's? Wouldn't it then be a "survivor"? If I had a knuck or pan I would call them either a knuck or pan and maybe specify which year if we were talkin about them.

We can pick at this crap all day.
Period correctness. Short chop. Custom. Cafe. Pro Street.

I've kinda let go of the term Bobber about three years ago. I let the "masses" have it. Heck, many of us have slapped chopper bobber xs650 whatever on an Craigslist listing cuz it sells. And quite honestly when you shudder when you hear that word......do you even think about stripped down Knuckleheads anymore? But a certain type of garage built project bike that some dude "Chopped what he got" cuz he couldn't swing 8grand for a panhead project.

As far as I'm concerned a bobber can be any bike with a mirror taken off for all I care because realistically, more often than not, a Bobber on CL is what most of US would call a basket case. And guys use the term on here to let you know that it is not stock. And that they maybe have changed it some from it's factory configuration.

Sorry, just havin a bad day, but I can't be the only one that has come to accept that a Bobber is not what it used to be.

I agree also and sorry for taking a shot a dudes bike, but I'm so sick and tired of the B word and how its applied to everything thats flat black and has no front fender. this has been beat to death here and every other biker forum out there. I guess the older I get the more I hate labels. carry on fellows I'm going to work.

This is my work in progress....

It's a bobber I'm making out of a 80 cb650. I want it to look like a hardtail, but if you look closely you'll see the shock back there under the seat.

Here's the build thread if you're interested. http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24099

I call it a "bobber" b/c this is what it looked like when I started last year..
