Wheel covers - worth the effort?

I have noticed that a lot of the Japanese Harley chops have rear wheel covers, a look I really like.

I have a couple of covers that fit the diameter of my XS400 wheel perfectly and was looking for opinions on whether it looks good enough to bother with the fab work?

There is a pic attached, sorry for the poor quality, but it gives a pretty good idea.

I like them, but what only matters is if you do.

I dig them a lot. Been looking for just the right covers for a while. Teach (I think that's his name on here) makes some that are fucking bad ass, but way out of my price range. if you've got the cash, I'd look into his.

as nice as the ones teach makes are, I doubt they would fit an xs400

I personally think they are the worst thing to do to a bike, but that's my opinion and I am not riding your bike, so with that said, do what ya want to and dont worry about what dumb asses like me are thinking about your bike,

just had to add my half cent sense every one so far has been saying do it.

I got em done, here is a link to the post w/ pics.

I made up some rear wheel covers for my XS400 bobber today. Made them out of chevy p/u covers. I plan on getting a 21" spoke wheel eventually, which will look better, but I still think they look alright.

                          little crosspost from here:

Are there any perks or drawbacks to doing this? I was thinking it was kinda smart in case you maybe dropped a chain, but could also be a drawback at high speeds with sidewinds.

Either way, I love the look and want some straight up dishes like pictured below. Any suggestions on what to get and how to do it with my 89 Sportster with stock wheels?

Can't say too much about them on a scoot but on bicycles there are a couple perks and draw backs, on something with a motor if you lost or threw a chain (not likely if you maintain your ride) I would imagine that it wouldn't make a rats ass of difference it would suck either way, it would probably get pinched between the disk and sproket and lock the rear wheel up anyways.

Perks - straight line speed with lower drag as long as there arn't any crosswinds.
Draw backs - crosswinds suck ass and will blow you all over the place.

I had aero spokes on my mountain bike, it made so little difference I went back to good old round spokes, that and replacements were not only a bitch to get but a pain to replace.
