'83 kz550 chop

I bought this bike running pretty good for $525. I ran it out of gas and sucked a bunch of shit in to the fuel lines and had to pull the carbs and clean em. When I went to put the carbs back on the airbox-to-carb boots wouldnt go on and i noticed one was dry rotted enough to have a tear in it. So, I just ordered some pod filters and some new main jets. I wanna get it runnin right before I start choppin on shit. I've got a guy sending me a set of Rebel 250 shocks that should give me a lil bit of a drop on the seat. About 3"- 4", hopefully. Here's how it sits as of now:

I got the pod filters on with the new 120 main jets. Waiting on a crankcase breather filter, Rebel shocks, and my new helmet to be shipped to me and I should be ridin after that!

Solo Seat Materials

I'm workin on it. I just took the luggage rack/sissy bar and the rear fender off today. Hopin these shocks make it here this week sometime. I found an old seat and pulled the leather cover off and I plan to cut up the old foam and seat pan and stitch up the old leather to make a solo seat. SHould look craptastic when I get done.

I will. After I put the pods on it wouldn't idle without the choke on so I'm thinkin the pilots are clogged or too small. Haven't gotten a chance to check the main jets yet. I'll keep you posted.

CriminalKZ, I am starting my own kz750 chop. Please make sure to post a lot of pics if you can. Thanks. Did you put a carb brace? If not how did you steady the carbs without the stock air filter? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am new to the chop world.

I don't have a carb brace on my 700 nighthawk chopper and have never had an issue in the two years she's been on the road.

When ya run pods ya have to have bigger pilots to get the correct idle to 1/4 throttle response.

Yea I figured that but I'd read a couple threads where people said they got by without going up on the pilot so I thought I'd be able to squeak by. Not the case. The problem is they dont make bigger pilot jets for these carbs. At least not any that I can find. I had to order Keihin Main jets. I have no experience with drilling these out either and I'd hate to fuck up the only jets I got. Any ideas?

My carbs snug very tight into the boots and then they have clamps to secure them. I dont think I'll have a problem with them moving at all. I mean it takes a lot of pressure to get them to pop into the boots so I'm pretty sure they aint goin no where. I'm not sure how the kz750 is set up but i'm sure its pretty similar.

On my cb750 the boots where a lot more pliable. I had to fab a brace to hold them in place. As I have not done any thing to the kz750 I was just wondering. The build is going good. Can't wait to see more pic's.

Try http://www.jetsrus.com/ for your jets. I've had good luck with them.

The site might not specify kawa, honda suzi specifcally but, I believe you can go by the type of carb you have and pick the jets from there.

Just got my seat pan in today! Ordered off of fleabay for $14.99 plus $5 shipping. Got the extra foam and leather off of an old seat. Gotta get some glue and I'm gonna ask the boat restoration guy in the warehouse next to me if he can stitch it up for me with his machine. Still need a hinge and springs for when I hardtail the bike, but that can wait for now.
