Some more Roth Rattle Bomb painting

Here is a helmet I just finished up using some Roth Rattle Bombs. I tried to take pictures throughout the whole process but really got into it and forgot some steps. Pictures were take with my iPhone, so some of them might not be the highest quality.

I started out with a gloss black Daytona helmet because it was cheap. If I screwed up and had to toss it, oh well.

Sanded smooth and masked for painting.

I used two cans of Sulfite Silver flake.

Next I used one and a half cans of Dupli Color Acrylic Enamel Premium Automotive Formulation clear.

I laid out my design, and masked everything but where the lace will go. This is where I start to lack pictures.

I misted black for the lace. I probably should have gone darker, but wasn't sure at the time how much to spray.

Here are my panels with ribboning, ready for two cans of Bad Azz Blue Candy.

All painted and ready for clear.

Here it is after another one and a half cans of clear, sanding, buffing, and adding the chrome door trim.

I am very pleased with the final results. The flake really stands out in the sun. Hope you like it!!

Nice job! I have a Daytona I want to paint as well. I love how small those lids are but they dont want to stay put at high speed.

AWESOME!!! seriously man, that helmet came out amazing , brilliant work

one question, why do you clear the flake, then move onto the lace, etc... dont you just do it at the end? not calling you out or anything, i just dont know

      thanks

                Thanks for all the complements!

Ashy - After spraying the flake, the surface is very rough. I figured wet sanding the flake would ruin the sparkle effect, so I did the clear then wet sanded it. I built up the clear enough so i wouldn't sand through. This gave a smooth surface to do my taping on so the candy didn't bleed under the tape.

I wish I could figure out how to get pics from my cell to here, I swear to you this lid looks almost like my tins!!! only my tins have a few other 'ghost' shapes in them besides the lace and candy, but it's the exact same color combo! Looks killer btw!

Nice job, better than I could do and I'm not knocking you, like I said it looks great. But I think the lace job is heading towards the red rim and white wall territory. That's just my opinion and it aint worth shit. I love the pattern down the middle and the color choices but I just don't dig the lace anymore. Maybe the red rim comparison is a little harsh. Just may opinion. Looks good man, nice job.

Great job on the re-finish. Did you use a basecoat from Roth? Or, was the flake the first to go on the sanded lid?

Inspiring job. I should kick my ass and try it on my old white helmet.
