    Default unit 650 head temp?

How hot do your trumps run?
My 63 tr120 runs about 235 at the head with an oil cooler.
I'm using one of those laser thermometers.
Oil at the tank is at 180 according to the dipstick.
    just wanted to compare notes.

My 70 was running 270-285 idle pointing at the pipes about 2 inches down from where they go into the head....last time I checked

we use one of those to set idle mixture, we are just looking for the same temp on each side. I don't know how accurate they are but if you point one at your arm it says 87, we get about 140 about 2 inches from the head on the pipes at idle. 285 seams kinda high, you got any chrome left?

How close is it when you take the temp ? How fare you hold it will vary the temp.
Triumph factory spec at head bolt on a warmed up engine is 250-285 ddepending on mixture .

That is with a real thermometer . Like the one your mom has for the oven

I wouldent worry about it one bit . Pipe coloring is a timing/mixture issue . if you are not racing then all you need to really do is listen for pinging and throttle response

I think it is timing to be honest I need to get a degree wheel ...My bike has a earlier flywheel/crank that only has 1 notch ...and I set it by piston relation to TDC and stator markings at TDC ....I have it pretty damn close but it isnt spot on I know that for sure .....
