    welding cases?

I bought a 77 ironhead to rebuild the engine and chop, but when I was splitting the cases I cracked one somethin good, went out and bought an 07 to use as my daily, but I still need to either get a new case or find someone that welds them...anyone know of any company that is capable of doing this? or would I be better off buying a new case?

    thanks in advance

Do think the above poster meant to say Tig......

Wild guess here...But do think where the crack is at is at the lower sump at the bottom of the case...

These 77-up cases are very fragile in that area....

I have welded some in the past....Most have been in that sump area...
Take my 45 and outrun em all ..

you could use any number of welding processes to fix them.

TIG would be best, but hell, you could possibly braze even if you had no other means.

Post pics though so we can see what you're dealing with.

when I said cracked somethin good I meant that it broke all the way through, the piece is completely off as you can see from the picture, but I am still hoping that there is hope for it.
otherwise I'll just have to buy a new right side case

Fixable. I'm assuming you can still get a good snug fit on there? You're not missing any other pieces, right?

yeah it fits up snugly, came off as one piece.
my friend's dad owns a shop and said he probably has another case for me somewhere, but I would like to keep it numbers matching if at all possible.
you would say there is hope still?
my worry is that it will make it fragile in that area

                      Depends on how it's done.

But what would I know, I'm only an American Welding Society D1.1 and D1.5 structural and bridge code welder.

But yeah, it's doable. It might help to plate it a little, but if you do it right it can still look OK too.

Would you want to get it back to looking bone stock, or would you want to make sure it never happens again? lol

hey man, function comes before looks.
I broke it when I hit it with the proper hammer to loosen the cases, I think the guy before me used red locktight to seal it.
so hopefully after the reasembly it won't happen again haha

                            Send them to Dragstews.
AWS ain't got no WPS for sporty cases.
