I have to ask,,, what are you gonna have done for your seat? Just a hint here, I don't think I saw any thing for grips yet, but, if you do go with leather, you could go with leather grips as well!!!!! same color and design all through and through!!! I am not trying to force you to choose this, I always leather just about everything!!! I did see your foot pegs, they are nice, I even go as far as to cover them too on my bikes and chops!!! This is just a theory of mine!!! I really feel as if tooled leather items are going way off to the way side of no where!!! It is kind of sad in a way, but, that is how things happen!!!! Either way you go!! Your chop is very nice!! I just hope you don't go the way of the vinyl coverings!!!,,,,vinyl makes me shudder!!! real bad!!!!! like I am allergic to it!!! There is one thing you as well as anyone could do as a tester for strength, between leather and vinyl, just take a torch to vinyl and then to leather, see which one stands the test of heat, then you could even pull in a tug of war with each type of item, and see which one lasts!! I guarantee, leather will always out do vinyl everytime!!!!! Of course, this is also, a theory of mine!!!!! you could also, go to my face book pages, I think it is in pages, with all the photos I put on it, which are a lot!!! Of only things I find to be worthy of posting, they have to be extreme, the only things extreme are the things we own, as in the wife and I, but, even on her things I do tone it down a little, just because it is hers, you might be impressed or not, I usually do not impress most people, that is just how it is! My face book is swinewerx kelley take a look and enjoy!!!

got the forks all shaved of un needed bracketry and got them torn apart.
.
took them down the street to my buddies shop and used his lathe to spin them down true. one i had them straiter than an arrow, i took them to his cabinet and blasted off all the remaining black paint.
tomorrow ill start the tedious process of polishing them. they will be lowered 3" when i reassemble them.

Looks like you you got a good start on those lowers, what are your plans for the polish? Starting to work on my aluminum cases for my motor, and I'm kinda looking for some direction....

since my buddie has my engine covers at his shop for polishing on his big wheel, i decided to polish the tappet covers on my little hf wheel. i let my buddie do the side covers since he has different wheels for his polisher as well as more room to work. my little polisher is just sitting on a bench. before and after.
all polished.
while i was at it, i found a later square cover to get rid of the decompression set up since im not running an electric start.
also got the freeze plug hammered into the electric starter opening as well as the gears out.

finished the wiring for the headlight and tail light tonight. im trying to get as much done as i can while waiting on parts. ran the wires through the back bone and through the left lower frame rail. i didnt want wires just zip tied under the frame or visible, always thought that was tacky. the headlight is on an on/off toggle on the neck gusset that turns on the headlight and tail light. the brake light is on a separate circuit/fuse so it will operate as it should during the day when i dont have my headlight on.

Front Axle?
Hey guys, I LOVE THIS BUILD! It looks really great. I've got a '78 XS that I'm putting together and I'm just curious what you decided to do about the front axle not fitting for your Honda XL175 front 21" wheel. I just bought that EXACT same wheel for my bike and then when I realized the axle wasn't going to fit, I looked up "XL175 front wheel on XS650" and I found your build.

What did you end up doing>?
I have the same setup. My plan was to run the stock xs650 axle but swap out the bearings in the hub for new ones that have the same outside diameter as the original ones in the xl175 hub but have a bigger inside diameter to fit the axle. Then I was going to make new spacers and drill out the side plate cover to the hub.
