It's awsome that most of the memorable lessons you learn when tearing a bike down to build it back is how you can fuck up a certain part. Then learn how to not fuck it up again after you have to buy another one

I guess my big thing is I already have the extended throttle cables that are the same as stock. Does going to a single cable have it's drawbacks, what are they? Would the single cable be the threaded one? Am I going to need the throttle housing,cable and sleeve for the handle? Thanks for the input.

The dual is a little more safe in case one of the cables were to fray inside the housing and keep the throttle pinned - the odds of that happening are pretty low. If you check the cable every so often, you'll be alright. They do make the assemblies in dual cable also if you're worried about that. Here's the one I bought about 3 years ago - $10.95 plus free shipping.

update
So my brother has been helping me out quite a bit here and ther so things have been moving pretty quickly. Fabbed a air cleaner back plate, started working on the brake light, still working on the throttle issue. For the first time since last July though it's off the lift and on it's own two wheels. It's getting close and I can't wait to fire it up.

Throttle sticking
So here is my next issue. I have a new throttle sleeve and new throttle cables but the throttle is still sticking can the spring on the carb go bad? Do I need to just lube the carb? The cables are not kinked. Any help would be appreciated.

Take the throttle housing off the bar. Then see if the spring is working by giving the carb full throttle by hand and letting it snap back. If it works like this, then the problem is not the carb, but in your adjustment of the throttle housing. Make sure (this is stupid simple but happens all the time) that the throttle tube isn't pushed all the way in, towards the center of the bars. This makes the inside end of the tube rub on the end of the bar and makes the return sluggish. It is most likely up at the grip and not at the carb in my experience.

Moving along
So, it's getting close. I have a few more things to get done, but she's looking good. I have taken her out for a couple shakedown rides and it feels fucking good to be out on her finally. I cut the fender struts back some and am cutting the fender up some more. Once I get the fender powder coated and mounted and a couple other things like the brake light and cable routing I will get her washed and take some god photos outside. still have the stock controls on the right for now till I figure out what exactly I'm going to do with it.

New here but also working on a sporty, so I checked out your build. That is a damn fine job sir! I'm envious as it looks like something I'd want in my garage.
I just got done hacking my right side controls off.
I went down to a single cable( threaded) and I had to take the start and toggle out of the housing and put it by seat.
I ordered pair after pair of cables and something was always wrong. I stumbled on this site and it seems like 1 cable is the preferred way to go.

Thanks. The cables have given me a bit of an issue. I would like to go down to one cable but i'm having a sticky throttle issue, doesn't seem to be at the carb, new cables adjusted,and new throttle sleeve. So i'm going to switch throttle housings and see if that's the issue. Until I get that fixed dual cables for me. I still have the switches up there for now, but I went to a local bike shop and got a automotive style ignition with the on-start-run and got rid of that in one fell swoop.

So, now that the bike is pretty much back together, it died out on a ride. I rebuilt the carb, now I think it's a wiring issue. While I was working on that I noticed my forks are leaking, not just drops, but enough to create a puddle. It seems to be coming from the drain plugs but i put them back together the way they came apart, and I checked to make sure I was not missing a seal or something. The manual says it's just the screw and a washer, is that right? Thanks.

Had same problem ..........mine turned out to be the small spring on the end of cable by the carb was still there from the old cable . drove me nuts for a day!
