I bet a ball peen could get messy fast.....like murder charge messy. That being said, I used to carry a padlock on a bandana all the time. Never used it but I'd rather have it than a knife in a knife fight.

I've got a pad lock on the loop end of a soloman bar I made and it works the same as a bandana. Everytime I;ve been stopped I tell them its the lock to my tool bag, and I always have extra para cord if I need any
