    Saturday in my shop

Today I wanted to mount my new seat on my rigid frame Yamaha Road Star.
I did not like the traditional spring mounted bobber seat.
I kept feeling like I was going to slide off the back of the seat.
I looked at all the possible seats and I wanted good back support so I did not have to worry
about sliding off the back of the seat.

The only problem is that my motorcycle rear fender is not like a Harley Davidson and the seat would not have a back support.
So what I did was I used the seat spring posts to mount a seat support that would slide down over the coil spring posts.

So it all worked out very well and the mount is detachable.

Now I have the back support that I really wanted.

If you click on the photos you get a larger version.

Excellent! Methinks I'll copy that since I lumbar support is nice to have.

Very nice. A little back support goes a long way.

For the seat support bar I used a piece of 2 inch angle iron 1/8 inch thickness. I bought two steel bushings from the hardware store
and drilled them to fit over the seat spring posts. I welded those bushings onto the angle iron. I will post a better photo tomorrow.

It is very comfortable and gives great support to the lower back.

It is so dependable I do not think about dependability anymore.

I do not know if a Harley is dependable. I have not owned one.

                  Photos of seat bracket.
This bracket mounts on the two seat spring posts that are welded onto the frame.
The steel bushings have one side sanded flat where they touch the angle iron .
I got the steel bushings from the hardware store.

Below is a detail shot of the bracket slid down over the spring posts.
This way the entire bracket is removable.

Only good within tow truck distance of your house, but girls seem to enjoy telling their friends they spent the night with a Harley guy.

Just kidding, mine has never left me roadside in god knows how many miles and years. I can't speak for the older one's, but evo's are good machines.

The quality of your chop means you don't need the massive HD aftermarket which is the main functional reason to own one.

Harleys can also be VERY dependable if properly maintained. I can jump on either of my panheads or my shovelhead rat any time and ride croos country no problem
