Well its either a lot of work to a sporty tank or cut out the stock backbone(s). that tank TJBC makes is well worth the money he charges for it considering. If you look at some pics of them he does a good job of making them look like they belong on the bike too which is no easy feat.
I went to TJBC's shop two weeks ago when I was in LA. The guy is legit, you have no worries about dealing with him. NO, the tanks are not cheap but they are custom and they completely change the look of that Sperm whale stock tank our little jap buddies made for us. I've yet to see a better looking tank on a VLX than the ones he makes.

I would like to see some better photos of a sportster tank upon a vlx 600 shadow, as I have an 88 vlx600, then, my wife has a 01shadow spirit 750, the only reason I have not done really aggressive modifications to my 88shadow vlx 600, is because it was my first street bike, which i have had since 1992, and the wife's shadow, forget about that!! she is too hot to piss off, and i like her at a good level of attitude, but, my 88 shadow vlx 600 is also that really pretty type of shadow, they actually put great effort into the shadow at that time, and painted the frame the same color as the rest of the bike, I have only lowered it by removing that huge asssed shaock and put a very short rod in it's place making it very low, also I lost the oil in the front forks, so it sits even lower, and the stock seat, really was too big, so, I made an extremely tooled leather seat that fits real tight, and covered the back section with a strip of leather, tooled of course, and made a slant saddle bag tooled very heavily. with leaves, and all the leather is red!! so are the grips, but the pegs are this hexagon solid aluminum, that I hand cut slowly to get them to fit in the place of where the stock pegs were, and just so I would not have to hack off the passenger peg holders, i made super short hex paegs from the aluminum, I had left from the making of the front pegs, the only bad thing about the paegs, is they do not fold up, I did not cut away the under edges of the pegs to allow them to fold up, and the rear shorties do not flip or fold up as I think it looks really cool just the way they are, without hacking the frame at all!!! I may out grow the fondness of the first street bike o' mine and really do some great mods, like lose the airfilter crap, that area when it is all cleared up, really makes the bike look as if it is stretched when you can clearly see through where the airfilter crap is/was! I know that I over indulge in typing way too much about whatever, but, I just get a little wierded out when it comes to my things and what I have done, and what I am about to do, or am doing. On the other note here, I like the way the shadow looked with the sportster tank upon it, looks real good, I doubt I will go that route, but it certainly gets me thinking about what the possiblities are with what I have! So, thanx!

$400 might sound like alot of money for a tank but trust me his tank is well worth the money. and if your wanting a sporty tank on a shadow he is really your only option unless you reddy to shop off the dual back bone to fit a sporty tank then have fun. and it tryed to fit a regual tank on their first and due to the way the back bone and angled their is no way the tank is flat and you have about 3"+ in the back sticking off the bike. it looks retarded. so if thats the look your wanting they let TJBC take care of you. ill post some pics of my bike witht he sporty tank in a min.
