    1979 XS650 build

Hey guys. This is definitely going to be an on-going build thread. I do a little work everytime I get enough cash together. Bought the bike at the beginning of last summer and it needed a lot of work. It ran.... sort of. But all the rubber was stiff, tires were crap, brakes etc etc etc. So here is a kind of post-dated status update. I replaced or rebuilt nearly everything on the bike so far, except the engine, which I am going to do a full rebuild on this winter. Stuff I've done includes new bars, new wiring, new tires, rebuilt brakes, new rubber mounting, rebuilt forks, various seals and filters, all the timing, cam chain tension, new points, new condensers and more. Most recently I got new Mikuni carbs from 650central and a street tracker exhaust from MikesXS. If anyone considers this exhaust in the future, I might recommend avoiding it. Once it is installed its fine (so far) but It really was a bitch to get together. Seems like the headers aren't really bent to the proper angles and you end up fighting them to get it installed. Sounds great though! I am waiting on new coils today and then she should be ready for the road for the rest of the fall.

    When I bought it:

      my influences/goal for the project:

I've got a fiberglass seat picked out that will fit perfectly and looks alot like the black and pink bike, but I also like the other bikes' solo seats. originally I wanted to do something like the bike below but I don't want to get into cutting and welding the frame quite that much.

I'll take new pics outside when I get the coils installed and the bike running smoothly. and maybe a video if I can figure it out.

Been one of my favorite bikes for a long time... from the Brat Style crew in Japan. I have pics from many different angles that I have been studying haha
