Pretty sure the factory oil tank has spacers between the oil tank mount and frame which lifts it up. If you've hard tailed a shovel frame you may run into clearance issues at the top with the factory spacer, battery tray, and oil bag in place due to a shovel frame being a bit shorter at the seat post.
My advice would be to get your battery tray in place, and space the oil bag up as high as possible. For mounts i considered two ways on my build, tab down from the crosstube and mount to the sides (internal) of the oil tank, or tabs and lugs to the top of the oil tank, i opted for the latter. Check out my build thread "NZ Shovelhead build" for reference.
Hope that helpsComment

I'm working on my first build which is a 72 shovel, but also making some changes to my 96 sporty. yea, I'll just start a thread for the shovel with some questions as I go, great idea. I know I post a bunch, I live in the sticks where there's not a soul with knowledge (to MY knowledge, yet) which can make it a little more difficult. thanks again for all the help, I know I'm a pain in the ass LOL.

Yes please start a build thread and ask away....Comment

looks like this thing has been intimate with a transmission before. that's the best possible adjustment and not aligned with the motor. so I'm thinking spacers on the front tank mounts since I have some clearance between the top and the crossbar. what do you guys think?
