Back on the road again. Everything is finally coming together. The transmission shifts 100 times better, doesn't leak, grind or anything. I fixed my electrical problem with a new regulator. Now I just need to get some serious seat time before GR6.

It appears that I'm still having a small electrical issue. The battery doesn't seem to be charging enough to crank the bike over. I can bump start it with very little effort, and ride for as long as I'd like without the battery going dead, but it just isn't keeping a full charge. I went out for about an hour last night and when I came back the battery was at 10.75 volts. Charged...just not all the way. If I put a meter on the battery and rev it, I see the voltage rise over 13, so I know the genny is doing something.

Any chance the generator is just "weak" and can't keep up with the demand of the bike? Is there a good way I can test for this?

I'm going to replace the brushes tomorrow. The regulator is brand new, and appears to have worked for about two rides. I'm getting nothing out of it as of last night.

Love your bike, very clean. About the generator, if you have to replace it with something, get a cycle electric generator, those are made in USA unlike that v-twin taiwan ted stuff. It´ll keep on working, and it´ll be cheaper than that alternator conversion.

Thanks man! I'm lucky enough to already have a CE generator in it. I hoping that the new set of brushes gets the output back to normal.

Thank you for showing us the not-so-glamorous part of building a bike. It really stinks but is well worth it when it comes together... and stays together.

Glad you enjoy it. I'm hoping that maybe someone who stumbles across this thread will get a little inspiration to put the extra work in on their stubborn project. It's been hard at times to stay motivated to keep throwing hours and money for parts at it, but I know it's all going to be worth it. I hope that shows in the final product.

Finally managed to take a picture with something other than my iPhone

I'm thinking about color matching the bars with the tank. Thoughts?

Just had to buy a new generator and reg.

Anyone want to buy an Ironhead? She's going up for sale as soon as the parts are in.
