It can work providing you make your own mounting tab. I designed it to mount on the speedo sensor ('95-up) which is right behind the starter.

sorry, im new to sporties. ive got an evo, and i think this is awesome. but i dont even know what that start button is! i skimmed this thread but didnt really see anything...

is that a normal modification, to put a starter button down there? is there a kit or something for that?

EDIT:
looks like theres a few on ebay. they seem pretty simple, ebay description says no wiring or anything, is that right?

Haha...look at Mike D's Sex Panther thread and you WILL see a pull string starter I made for him allowing to pull start the bike from the left side.

It's what all the cool kids have been doing since they stopped putting kickers on HD's. Haha...clean up your clusterswitchfuck bars and you'll be looking for a place to put a starter button. Eazy Fix : solenoid starter switch.

Hey Wompy, great work! Question... I can't find detailed pictures of the left side pull starter you did on MikeD's 'sex panther' sporty. Trying to make one for an 87 with pipes in the way. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I know the speedo sensor isn't on a '87 and i'll have to figure out a different way of mounting, just wanted to see if I can take your genius and make something that would work. Thanks man!

PS
I found one pic on sex panther featured on chopcult, but no pic of what's going on over on solenoid side.

I'm not gonna tell you step-by-step but I will offer some hints. You will need a lever on the right side connected to a bmx cable to a pull handle. Look for mounting positions on both sides for these fixed items and make cardboard mockups of it swinging to push the solenoid button. Look at pulley diagrams if confused about leverage.

NOTE:
Ok for '03-down sporties you'll have to do a couple things for it to work.
First is replace one or two oil hoses with some about 1-1/2" longer so you can reroute them a bit to allow pull start full swing w/o getting caught.
Second is replace the hard brake line with a brake hose or bend it to go down through the middle of the belt/chain as it does make contact w/ pull start.
The cover itself doesn't interfere so you don't have to chop any part of it off, just clean up the area around the speedo sensor where the pull start bolts to.
