For thousands of years the Native American lived upon the plains hunting the mighty buffalo. The buffalo was free, the native was free, they took what they needed and gave thanks.

White man comes along and assigns a price value to the buffalo hide. In a few years they are hunted nearly to extinction.

Western culture chases the dollar.

It's kind of too bad too. Things would look a lot different if more folks could enjoy things without the constant pressure of the dollar.

.. i agree with OP. can't believe so many dudes don't mind scumbags who will buy a bike just so they can profit from it (without putting any work, elbow grease, or unicorn blood into it), while in another thread we complain about people who don't stop on the side of the road to help stranded "fellow brothers." So what you're saying common courtesy, decency, and respect isn't universal? it's something that can only be applied to some specific things?

low-life pieces of shit who find a great deal on a bike only to take it from a guy who could really use a good deal and a little luck are just as shitty as people who never stop to help out on the side of the road. both acts are equally shitty and probably go hand-in-hand.

and to the dude who literally has a craigslist app that sends him information immediately as soon as bikes who meet "certain criteria" go up, you're the worst kind of scum bag low life piece of shit... half the fun of what we do is in getting lucky and scoring an awesome deal. forget about selfishly taking that idea away from someone else; you're taking the luck, genuineness, and the FUN out of what we all enjoy doing. total douche move.

some of the contradictory shit posted by some of the people on this web site is mind boggling sometimes... even for a bunch of dudes who post pictures of themselves naked wearing helments and collect unicorn dolls.

That would be me! Glad to see I struck a nerve with you man. Let's me know I am doing something right if someone else is butt hurt. I ride bikes and genuinely enjoy them, if I can make a few bucks every now and then doing something I love, fuck you!

so basically, the only way you know you're doing something right is if you're making other people mad or shitting on everyone else? you must come from a great home. you're a real winner.

and if you genuinely enjoy riding, why not allow other people the same opportunity -- including those who wouldn't be able to ride WITHOUT having found that one awesome deal? (like the dude who posted right before you)? what about them? tough shit? you snooze you lose?

well, if that's your mentality, i hope you get the opportunity to "genuinely enjoy" riding motorcycles taken away from you.

We live in a modern world and I use all the tools available to me to efficiently find good deals. Don't like it? Move somewhere where free trade isn't allowed. And yeah, it seems that whenever someone is doing well there is that one person there crying about how they suck. I sleep fine at night and have never been mad at another man for doing well. Sorry about your life kid.

Alright.
I know you to be a pretty intelligent guy.......so follow this.

You have a bike, yes?
Say I find out I can't ride, for whatever reason, and place my shovel for sale for 100 dollars.

Holy Crap!?!
You go to your piggy bank and pull out all that money you got from selling your vintage Arthur Fulmer......98.....99.....100! YEAH!
You run to my house and next thing you know your jamming gears to the local party where you are surrounded by stunningly attractive people where you regale them with magnificent stories of your trek and how you came about such a magnificent set of wheels for the LOW LOW PRICE of 100 dollars!

You remain on your bike....drinking the night away as models and rockstars continue to approach you asking about your new motorcycle all the while handing you beers until you resemble that famous photograph taken in Hoolister, CA.

When what's this?
You felt power come out of you.........

"Who touched me?" you ask.
It was a man who had been deemed unclean, as he had been without motorcycle for 12long years having spent all his money on mopeds, yet his problem has only gotten worse.
Having risked being stoned to death by hipsters just touch you he says.

'"I can be made clean if you just want to."

He says, "I have but 100 dollars..........."

Should you have not purchased my motorcycle HIM possibly finding it and buying it?

Do you sell him your current motorbike?

Or do you sell yours for it's current market price for a new paintjob, 10 over HD springer and a stroker kit?

Or, pay for that operation your little cousin Timmy needs?

Maybe help out Turbo and Ozone keep the community center open?

Maybe save the profits from selling your bike to pay off that credit car you and your wife maxed out when you both were out of work last year.

Maybe pay back your mom for a that time she cut you a check to keep the lights on?

Or just sell the "needy" your new 'Flip' despite the fact you had been scouring the classifieds and all the craigslists within 230miles for a running shovel for under 3000 and saving your pennies...passing up all those affordable ironheads holding out for a shovel?

I dunno.
The world isn't sharing and caring with a side of free love...........but I bet he might jump on the first reasonable offer for the quickest buck for the lowest risk.........thus passing the savings onto you.

Just save your money, scour craigslist, and be ready to pounce on a deal the very SECOND you see it.

It's just business.

This is incorrect. Hate to bust your bubble dude, but it would be physically impossible for men with single shot rifles to exterminate millions of plains buffalo. For some reason this un-truth has been pushed upon the American Anglo. Were there thousands and thousands killed? Absolutely. But the stories of "running thousands of buffalo off of cliffs" is simply not true. That story derived from a tribe of natives working with Anglos - the site has since been scientifically analyzed, and the number was more like 400.

If you would like, I can get further into it - - - -

Back on track....If I see a cheap bike, I'm going to buy it. Then, I will probably sell it to finance one of my hobbies, most likely something to do with motorcycles.

There are people who make pretty good livings flipping shit they get off ebay....

Haha, only if you know how to do the Electric Boogaloo! Man Bander, that shit was hard to follow. You gotta quit posting when youre high.

Anyway though, this thread is such a waste of time and kinda pathetic. Sure, I understand that everybody wants a "steal" on a bike. If only there were enough barn perfect 48 Panheads for each and every one of us to find our own, and for only $250, oh, whoa is me, how terrible is my suffering!

Sounds like some of you fellas went to those "progressive" schools where every kid gets a trophy but no one actually ever "wins" anything so that no one gets their feelings hurt. If you don't like free market economics because it's "not fair" then just go vote for Obama again and go back to reading poetry on your Ipad.

Professional victims=people who bitch about how unfair shit is.

....
Sure.

Let's hear it.

Why did the buffalo dissapear from the plains? Who took the land from the Native Americans?

...and in case you missed it, my point is that our culture tends to pillage. Manifest destiny. The American dream and all that. It's no different with bike flippers on ebay. Everybody is out to get everybody else. Exploit the situation. It drives the drug trade. It drives Wall Street. It drives gasoline prices. The Native Americans had their own system they lived under too. In our system we get to worry about getting ripped off buying or selling a chopper. In there system you might have had to worry about getting scalped if you were on the wrong hunting grounds.

Wait...did they scalp people or have I been mislead? Let me know.

I hate to bust your bubble dude, but I'm not even arguing against you. I agree with you. It's our system, get used to it. Who's going to change it? Why complain? If you want a bike, get in there and haggle.

If you don't want to play, don't. But don't ever think this is the only way things can be. It's not.

With Shows on TV about this kind of stuff now it's no suprise to me. The only part that sucks is that price starts to get driven up on everything but eventually it hits it's top and falls on it's face.....Just ask the guys who bought $50,000 production chops a few years ago and now you see them on ebay for $14,000. Same principle really. It's a fad now to flip things.

There's always a deal out there.
The guys who get them are the quick ones.
The ones who keep plenty of CASH on hand to jump on those DEALS ASAP.
The guys who leave work early.
The guys who tell the buyer they're on their way with cash and drive two states away.
Sometimes they see it's not quite the deal it seemed.
Sometimes they lose money when they find it has issues after buying it

I can't tell you how many people I know have missed out on crazy deals because they

Waited till they got off work/weekend/paid next

Or had to get a loan

Or had to go to the bank first.

Some people think they're getting a deal on things "Only paid 4,500 bucks for this '03 sporty"

And some straight steal that 98 fatboy for 2,600 bucks from the guy who ABSOLUTELY NEEDS that money to make rent cuz he blew it all on crack that weekend.

There's ups and downs....wins and losses.....
It's just business.

what i've noticed in my short 22 years here on earth are usually the most kind people who've really nothing to prove to anyone are the dudes who can REALLY fuck some shit up if they have to. some of these dudes, including my old man, taught me how to act in the real world. if not being a douche bag means i look soft to a few random people on the interwebz, then so be it. first hand into my pocket, or first fist into your face.

I get what you're saying, usually I end up being the voice of reason when shit gets crazy (comes with my job as a doc when I'm out with the grunts). The loud guys talk a lot of shit and make a lot of noise and usually the trouble that comes with it is the typical who's balls are the biggest bullshit that can get out of hand but nothing too serious comes of it. Its the guys that usually don't do a lot of tough guy bullshit talk you gotta keep an eye on. They're the ones that come at the whole situation sideways, all business and their trouble will usually end with some really fucked up shit, some fool hurt real bad or worse and brig time if its not squared away nice and proper quickly. These guys don't have shit to prove to anyone but themselves or they've just kept shit bottled up nice and tight and the're a fucking powder keg. Goddamn tiger's blood and shit .

WTF?!?!

This wasn't supposed to have posted in this thread, makes me wonder how that happened. Ladies and gentlemen bath salts and chop cult don't mix.

I've flipped a few bikes, but that's not why I buy them. Usually it's a means to an end, perpetually transitioning the family through a series of bikes till we end up with something we want to keep. Take a turd, make it shine then ride the crap out of it till its time to move on, then sell it for a respectable amount. I even took a bit of a loss due to a failed cam tensioner in the GSXR's case, but I road through 3 sets of BT22's before it shit the bed so I got my moneys worth out of it.

if buying low and selling high is somehow scamming or screwing over all the people who didn't buy that bike, then how is buying it low and keeping it for yourself not screwing over the original owner. in fairness, shouldn't you make sure they know what they have and receive the fair value for it?

"oh, i see you posted your bike on CL for 2500... it's easily worth 4000, so i'm gonna pay you that much," - nobody ever.

are you screwing your boss over by working for $20/hour when you'd be happy with $18? is it screwing over your customers/clients who could get your products or services for cheaper if you took the pay cut?

i suppose we could just give all our money to the government, and they could redistribute the wealth to make sure anybody who wanted a bike had one.

Well stated with thought provoking questions.

There is nothing wrong with finding a few good deals and putting some elbow grease and a few cool parts into them. Then you sell someone a cool ride for a little cut for your time and labor. If you have a problem with that your living in the wrong country.
