So glad iOS won't play flash, spun meat is making its rounds around the Cult pages lately, any link CRFyou posts is suspect (quote it or hover over the link and you can figure out the re-direct before you click on it)

Back to Softails, I have seen some pretty bitchin ones runnin around. I think my main gripe is that they are built to look like something they are not and dont really perform well at it.

Harley didn't design the softail. Now tell me how they don't perform. It's a comfortable ride, I can turn as well as *I* can on the sportster. Comfort matters to me, I spent three weeks thinking I was never going to walk again without a cane and the last three months recovering from the back injury and learning how to live and deal with a back that is never going to be the same. I could care less if it does or doesn't look like a rigid. Soooo...detail this whole performance thing to me keeping in mind I've ridden both suspensions.

I got a buddy with one who has owned tons of different HDs and owned a shop.

He told me that he hates his because everybody puts on the lowering kit so you only have about an inch or so of travel if it's lowered and may as well be riding a rigid cuz it weighs less.

He also said it's more of a pain to work on the suspension and you'd be better off with a swingarm.

He also claims that he loves his shovelheads and Evos are for pusses and that he hates softails.

Out of all his bikes............................

I only ever see him on the Evo Softail.

Uhhhhhh, ok. I've riddin both a sportster & a softail, both have diffrent rides(.i.e. suspension) but also depends on said rider & the shocks. On the Softail if I get it, it won't be in stock form for very long nor even stock frame if I can score a rigid for a song. If I want good rear suspension I'll by a dyna or sporty. Also I have a fucked back & shouldn't be riding at all but fuck it ill live with the pain. And as I write this I'm not trying to be cocky, disrespectful just to get that out there(can't hear emotions on a keyboard).

See, I don't think the softail performs poorly, as was said, seems the main complaint comes from the lowering kit. Stock, I don't think it handles any more poorly than a standard swingarm. My opinion is that yuppies gave the softail a bad name and all the cool guys are scrambling to come up with reasons to bad mouth them. It's just too cool for schoolism. I've never been cool, I don't see why I should start now.
