Is this a good/legit deal? 73 Ironhead in a Savior frame...I'm ignorant

Hey guys-

I do not know much about Harleys. I think they are badass though. A man has approached me and asked if Id wanna trade my 2009 KLR650 for his Harley. MY KLR is naked and has some dents. I value it at 3k, MAYBE 3500. HEre are the photos and description he sent me.

What do you think? I want a single seat like a lot of bobbers I see and a tank that sits lower.

FYI-

My main concern is that my KLR is my daily driver. I want a reliable bike with minimal upkeep. The man says its his daily driver too and he takes it on trips. but of course i dont trust him easily.

"I want a reliable bike with minimal upkeep."

I think it's "either-or" for most bikes of that vintage..particularly if it's an iron head. IF you're lucky..probably maximal
upkeep ad just MAYBE reliable.

If it were a well-maintainwd, low milage Honda of the same era you MIGHT get both reliability AND low upkeep.
But with an IH from back then I don't think so. But I am not a real expert. AND I hope I'm wrong :-)

I've owned old hondas and jap bikes which were very reliable, just ignorant about harleys.

My honda cub and passport is prolly more reliable than any bike made today!

I'm leaning on passing. I love my KLR. It ain't the coolest looking bike, but when I bought it it was in pieces and I rebuilt it. I ride the shit outta the thing and it loves me back.

If you treat the ironhead like that it would do the same, but its fucking old and probably need some rebuilding and attention due to a long life of neglect,I got a ironhead last year and am rebuilding it now and maybe ride it next year.

I have a 80 sportster drivetrain in an unknown year savior frame. It's my daily driver and I love it. I have been late to work two or three times over the past two years with it. And at least one of those times I was late only because I didn't have the right tool in my bag. With ironheads you need to know how to get the timing set up and adjust the pushrods. Other than that be able to adjust the carb and ride anywhere. Just my experience on an AMF redheaded step-child sporty. I say go for it!

How is it titled? 1970 and later Harley's are titled by frame numbers. If that bike has a '73 engine with an aftermarket frame, it should be a special construction. You can't use the motor/title for 1970 and later Harley's.

Educate yourself before you wind up with something that might be a problem.

Its worth it if title is good. You never know reliability until you have owned it. That looks like a 3500-5000 scoot to the right buyer and where you live. I would sell it for 4400.00.

take a pass.... Decent bike, I like my IH but to get me to work everyday...... I rode it to work about 30 times a few summers ago. It seemed about 1 in 10 something went wrong. Granted my ride is 51 miles 1 way. Save your money, I bought mine as a basket for 1200 bux with new pistons, valves re done etc... You can find one on the cheap if you take your time.

you are definitely going to have some hiccups with that thing, but once you get to know it, you should be ok.. I'd find out the last time the top end was rebuilt and how many miles he has on it since then
