Tech question here re: Gear Drive installed on my 88 Twinkie

hey all your motorheads....I need some tech help here....I recently installed the gear Drive system on my 2000 88 Twin Cam. I heard that bthe stock cam chain tensioner shoes were a problem just waitin to happen....costly but i sold my ma to the arabs to make it happen. ok, cool..so on with the problem..
I installed the Gear Drive (or rather my local indy wrench did) in place of my stock cam chain tensioner. I installed a pair of gold tipped extra performance spark plugs. My ol lady reminded me that my current battery is still relatively new....I even "fine tuned" the throttle exhaust so my newly installed SHortShots pipes I( changed them from the drag pipes i had on) sounded better at idle.

BIG ISSUE HERE is that when my bike is asleep for a little while and the engine is cold I turn her on and put the bike in neutral. I start her over but she now all of a sudden whirls around ( Gear Drive set up) and never catches the initial spark. It takes me having to pull the choke out a bit and hhit the ignition switch before hopefully she finally catches. Im gonna see the local indy wrench this tuesday. Im thinkin maybe its either a bad regulator or time for a new battery. Any help from you mechanical wonders would be surely appreciated....Thanks.....

Sounds like the starter isn't engaging. Either not enough juice, or maybe time for a new starter. Have you tried jumping the solenoid?

I have a gear drive set up and you don't hear it at all.

The bendix is part of the starter system. I haven't had a problem with my TwinCam starter so I can honestly say that I don't even know if the solenoid can be changed separately like they can on e-start shovels. The bendix will slip if it's not being engaged completely which on a shovel you can start with the solenoid first, cheapest route, then move onto the starter motor itself.
