Engine Build Advice / Thoughts?
I acquired a '65 IH in February and it has been sitting in a corner collecting dust until last night. I've got a million other projects going on and I finished cleaning my garage and decided to make it messy again by tearing into this motor. When I got it the previous owner bought it from a guy that had it built, put 300 miles on it and then wrecked the bike- So I've got just the engine and another frame. I've got the build sheet for the engine and didn't pay much attention to it... It's been quite some time since the build- so at a bare minimum I was going to pull the heads, re-ring the pistons and throw some new top end gaskets on it. I pulled the heads last night and peeked down in the cylinders and there were two EXTREMELY clean .070 pistons. Yep. I said .070. I hadn't heard of anyone going to more than .040 on a 900cc IH. So... I decided I'm going to rebuild the whole thing. And at least touch every part and replace what is needed (The heads need to be worked over) The valves were pretty crusty.
So- Cylinders. .070 is nuts. Do I leave it and re-ring? Or should I start over fresh? I don't know if it's been stroked- I haven't split the cases yet. Also- It's been cammed +P I think and has an interesting belt primary- that I haven't seen before. Either way. It's cool. I'm gonna dig this thing.
