1200 sporty sprockets

ive searched a bit with little results to the specific questions im asking. doing the math has worked but the results have been less that desireable. looking to find out for those of you who run a 1200 evo sporty motor with 16 rear and 21 front what the best combo you found gives you the least vibes and lowest rpms at 70+ mph. i want to have a decent freeway bike so i can take longer trips.my bike is a buell 1203 motor in a paugcho frame with a 21 front and 16 rear with a 48 rear wheel sprocket and 23 tooth front sprocket. chain of course. as of right now it feel like a 20 minute ride at 70 will either shake the bike apart or blow the motor.

My 1200 with the same gearing, to me, is almost lugging at 70 in 5th.

But I don't have a speedo or a tach, so really, who knows.

Thing is, the more rpm you get, the smoother this thing should be. If you have a bad vibration at 70+(the kind you feel in your ass, not your hands), you might have some other drivetrain issue.

Mine is originally a 883 that was converted to a 1200 so the original 883 gearing remains at 21T Drive/48T Driven. I just purchased and will be installing a 23T sometime this week in efforts to lower the RPMs on the freeway. I don't have a tach but I know it feels high in 4th gear. I will report any changes I notice.

I've read in other forums that this does the trick for 4 speed 1200's

most of it seems to be in the hands. im going to balance my wheels and ill be making some tbars soon so i should be able to use rubber mounts and see if the combination of the two will help any.

yeah, I don't really have any noticeable vibes in my hands... But I was used to riding small displacement twins that turn 6500rpm on the freeway, so to me, this thing is way smooth.

Jealous of your engine... bet that thing moves out.

before this i had a 1978 gs400 suzuki which would do 100mph but it was super smooth on the e-way. not sure what the real difference is considering both hardtails, chain drive. but i know the inlines are always a bit more smooth than the vtwins so.... yeah the buell really hauls. i plan to do some motor work this winter (cams, adjustable pushrods, new lifters, bigger pistons, head work and all the fun that comes along with it.

Nice... I actually had a GS450 street tracker type build... those are fun little bikes. No slouches for what they are. It was the funnest to ride bike I have had so far.
