V DUB is hurt

So......! My old ladies VW entered the VW service station after the clutch broke. It's a 2006 Jetta TDI . It has 33,000 Miles on it. So, it's pretty much new. How the F%@% does a car with 33,000 miles blow a clutch. The dealership called saying the extended warranty may not cover it? Fuck! The interesting thing is, last week I drove it over 600 miles in three day's with no issues. It happened out of the blue. She calls at 1am on the side of the road car is dead. She drove it to work no issues and then drove half the way home about 10 miles with stop and go traffic lights then bam! The fucker stops working....When I got to the car I stepped on the clutch peddle and it made an evil noise. How does this happen\?!! WTF.

Sucks bad. When my wife got pregnant we got rid of her John Cooper Works edition mini. Loved the shit out of that car. Got rid of it and got a Nissan Xterra and got the manual trans. thinking of durability. Nope. 55k miles and clutch gone. Not covered and I found a bunch of documentation online about premature clutch wear/failure. I got after market clutch and flywheel and said fuck you Nissan. I think with vehicles now better of with the automatics than the manual transmissions. The factory clutch was only about half as wide as the flywheel. New clutch is twice as wide and offers double the clamping force. All done in the garage for less than 1k. Dealer parts were over 1400 dollars without labor charges.

I don't know much about cars that late model but in my experience with older cars, clutches rarely just "go out" usually there is some slipping or noisy throw-out bearing/pressure plate or something to give a little warning. Are you sure it's really the actual clutch? Sounds like it could be the slave cylinder or something if it went out so suddenly. 33k miles sure does seem early.

Bill you'd be surprised about the shitty non quality parts that they put in vehicles now. I found at least 100 people with the Xterra's and Frontiers around same year as mine and I found them with problems as short as 17k miles. They engineer the shit out of vehicles then take shit out to save a few dollars here and there. I could go on and on about the Xterra and some shit with it. It's like Harley and the Twin Cam cam chain tensioners. They new they were problematic, and the warranty covered them, but so many people who don't ride their bikes find out after the warranty period expires and the ternsioners go and grenade the motor.

I'm with bill on this one, probably a master or slave cylinder concern. I find it very hard to believe that the clutch went already. I work at a Ford dealership and our new 5.0 mustangs with a 6-speed are having master / slave cylinder concerns where you get no pedal and im talking vehicles with less then 5k on them. Shit happens

Probably a fluke. VW uses good qaulity parts. That clutch is probably a sachs unit. However a clutch @ 30k seems pretty low, but i've seen stranger things happen. I know the manufacturer that I work for (bmw) would be claiming abuse. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Tell them you won't buy another VW again as long as you live if they don't cover it. The dealer should have "goodwill" money to work with, and SHOULD help you out at such low mileage, especially if you bought the car from them. Good luck.

The problem is you own a VW. Seriously, me and the misses bought a brand new 2006 Passat and thought what a great car, fast as balls and comfortable. For 4 years that fucking thing fell apart around the engine and tranny, thankfully the warranty covered all the shit that went wrong. New Air Conditioner, New switches on all the doors, new radio, Constant problems with the sun roof. Each repair was at least 2 grand. We had 2 months left on the warranty and the Sun roof screwed up again, called VW and complained about all the repairs we have been dealing with. They didn't give a shit, couldn't help us, but sent a voucher for 400 dollars on our next repair. Thanks VW! Got that fucker fixed and got rid of it!!! Don't get me wrong, I love VW's but not the newer ones. Get rid of it, it will nickle and dime you to death!!! We now own a 2007 Ford Mustang convertible and that thing is fun as hell!!! But, it's reallty not a dudes car, so my wife drives it. Just my opinion.

Clutch issue

I know that this is very common on the 1.8T cars. Is your TDI a 1.9 litre? Do you belong to the TDIClub forum? I would check there. I think the Clutch issue is generally a clutch/flywheel issue on this car. FWIW, I would check NHTSA as well.

Mine went out on my 2000 1.8T at about 90,000 but i went to SF ever other weekend and I lived in south lake tahoe at the time where i lived on a hill and was a dumb ass and always did the gas and clutch at the same time so i would not roll back leaving the road i lived on, on to the main street.

I take my vw to a local vw/audi rally performance shop now beside the dealer and it cut my cost of labor, parts and wait time in half.
