This is a true and fucked up story and take heed boys..
Finally finished my 68 bonnie chop, it was looking awesome, running great. Took it for a ride yesterday and when I brought it in, I shut it down
now sometimes when I shut it down I get a backfire, as we all sometimes do on old bikes...Well keep in mind Amal carbs and ticklers..
my friend who was riding with me was like "dude, your carb is smoking" as I was taking my helmet off, as I walked towards the bike that smoke became a little flame, then the fuel line must have melted because that fucker took off and now had a direct feed of gas, and the flame got real big and intense.
2 fire extinguishers and a hose we put the bike out. Thought shit was ok besides my bike looking like ghostrider took it for a spin.
walk outside and see my fucking roof is on fire. Panic sets in, people with iphones in front of my garage we hear alarms. SHIT!
frantic race to remove other bikes, parts and tools.
I managed to pull my mag off the triumph as firemen pulled me out of there.
I lost a bike and my roof.
Beware the backfire boys and keep some extinguishers handy, it can happen at any time.
Also keep an eye on the classifieds and born loser. I will have some parts up to try and raise cash for a working bike this summer and can use the help

That's a bummer deal! Good luck getting everything straightened out. I've got a carb problem every so often where it overflows. I've got it down to an art of flipping my petcock off at a certain spot on the way to my house. It'll sputter and die as a pull into my driveway. If not I've woken up to it leaking and filling my garage with fumes and I worry about blowing my whole damn house up.

At least you're ok dude. My dad burnt his whole house down in the 80s working on his carbs in the living room, gas heater kicked on and ignited the fumes.

So after selling some parts and using what I could scrap. I scraped down the engine, new gaskets, some new cables, new oil lines, new tank, a new 21 is on the way for the front. Waiting on some bars and cables courtesy of you fine 33'ers, threw on some paint and here is what she looks like....
Triumphs really hate mikunis, but I'll work on that tomorrow. Working in your yard for 4 hours in 80 plus degrees gets old fast. Didn't time it but it coughed first kick, good sign. Also the oil pump seems to work as I forgot to hook up the return line
