shovel chop re chop

on to the next project
I built this bike a few years ago when I was literally broke and just needed something to ride
so it was put together with all my spare parts
a few years later and Im still literally broke but wanted to change the look a little bit
motor is a 93" mid 70's shovel (made over 90hp on the chassis dyno)
paughco rigid frame ( I think no stretch/rake etc.)
4spd ratchet trans
plans are
-new narrower gas tank
-old narrowglide trees for 41mm tubes
-different seat
-possibly different rear tire/fender combination
-possibly do a tall sissy bar
-possibly ditch the electric starter and leave it kick only
-possibly do a horseshoe oil tank instead of the round and go with a smaller kick start battery or maybe switch to a magneto with no battery

this is what it looked like a few years ago when I built it

this is just after tonight messing around with some stuff I have for it
the tank looks a little weird with the wide glide front end
but the front end will be a lot narrower once I change the trees out

FYI, that's not a Paughco frame. That's a Santee 2" up, 35 degree frame.

Who makes that 4-speed electric-start kit? Looks cool.

yeah you are absolutely right
its been a few years since I built this one and Ive done a few other bikes since so I forget sometimes what brand stuff is on what bike

did some work on the tank and got rid of the two gigantic filler caps and Im going with 1 single small filler cap

also mocked up the front narrow front end
its a little tight down by the wheel but I might have enough room to squeeze a front brake on there

welding up the filler bung

I had to machine down the top fork caps a little these trees were not as thick as my other top tree was and the top cap stuck out to far out the top and I couldnt tighten down the tubes enough
so a little work on the mill and on the lathe and they fit nice now

got the bars almost finished
did them out of 1" stainless
still have to narrow the sides down a lot
and weld in a cross piece in the center of the riser tubes

Bike looks great man. Love the tank, the seat, the handlebars, the narrow glide, and exactly like you said, do a different rear set up. Considering you're going with the narrow theme, a firestone or shinko would look great on there with a tall sissy oh and the horseshoe oil tank would flow well.
