Got the bottom of the timer cut to shape and the guide plate relief cut in the side.

A piece of 1" plate from the scrapyard and some quality time with a hole saw yielded this blank

Timing it to the wrong points cam lobe will result in that behavior.

A fixture to hold a die grinder would seem more in keeping with this project. Or a router motor like the guy on fleebay makes.

I ground some on a Craftsman 109 proly not as good a lathe as a Chinesey one. But doable! You will have to build a fixture to hold the grinder then you have to feed very slowly and supply the cooling...

On mine I run a hot to both the center poles then one side the two outer terminals go to low and high on the headlight then the other side one outer goes to the taillight and there is a jumper...

If'n it doesn't you can just weaken the spring. They work in 45 Indians but at my altitude you have to clip a coil or two off the spring.
