Howdy folks. New to the site. I live in the bowels of Las Vegas. I drive a ratted out 86 Honda VT500. Loving a lot of the bikes on this site. Other than that I like Punk Rock, Metal, and Beer.

James. From Maryland. Fabricator by trade. I practice rocket surgery in my shop at night. Build random parts for no reason other than just to make them. I enjoy wheelies, burnouts, and not locking up my rear brake because soccer moms cant properly get off their cell phones while changing lanes, beating their children, and eating a big mac all at the same time

I also ride those two wheeled things. My pile is posted in the sporty thread on page 193.

09-02-2011, 1:55 PM
Hi, my name is Vaughn, and i'm a chop-a-holic. Been running two wheeled sleds of one sort or another for about 30yrs now. From Husqvarna db's to completely stock metric street bikes I've had my share. My '70 Bonneville has seen many incarnations since I first got her in 1989 and I enjoyed every minute of cutting her up. Since I've been lurking here now a few months I've come to really like this site. I really like the fact that Chop Cult includes all kinds of sleds unlike that other site. Recently I finally got myself an '82 ironhead to replace my brit. So I'm looking forward to sharing the experience with you all.

09-02-2011, 9:46 PM
Just got my bike running and looking for people in san Diego to ride with.

09-03-2011, 12:19 AM
Good morning from a not so sunny Cape Town,South Africa,My name is Anthony and i work on m/cycles in my spare time to help the family budget,,my specialty is taking a bike that has been standing or "just stopped" and giving it new life,I've been going for about 3yrs now in my house now and I'm getting a reputation of being the go to guy if you have an older bike that nobody(local bike shops) can find the problem on,I'm on google maps as Oldman Prof's(OMP) workshop at no.4 Desande rd southfield, western cape,Cape Town South Africa,I hope to find a lot of Ideas here because there's not a big chopper following here in SA.

09-03-2011, 1:37 AM
Ayee guys, names Corey outta Pittsburgh, PA. Friend of my friend he met when he moved don San Antonio told me to check out chop cult. Into it. Always looking at cycles, always looking to find some nice machines to give m some ideas for when I actually get the space n money to finally start working on a bobber. Right now I'm almost ready to build my '77 Yamaha RD 400 from the frame up. Cafe build, got everything ready to go once the tank is done getting cleaned up. Can't wait to get that on the street. My old mans gotta '92 V-Max I'm on more than he is, if you've never had the chance to take one around the block, you dunno what you're missing. Those bikes are stupid-fast, makes for some fun riding. I'll be posting in the Jap section a good bit so any Yamaha guys see if you can help me out with all kindsa yamaha stuff.

09-04-2011, 10:03 PM
Until recently I didn't realize how important the intro is to some here. I've been a member since May 2010. Have many postings, already got my CC stickers as well as others. I'm 51 from ma. I have a 98 FatBoy an 82 Sporty I'm cleaning up for my oldest son and 2 mid 70's IH projects. I'm pretty anti social as well as opinionated, although I will help sometime, if I can. I really do enjoy this site. So, that's it. Peace Fukers.

Been a long time lurker, but figured I'd step out now and try to contribute.

Name's Bashar, currently living in NOVA (just moved from Philly). Had been wanting a bike since I was a tyke and finally bought one. I ride an 08 Sportster (Nightster to be specific, yes I bought in to the whole Dark Custom thing). A couple of months after buying the Sporty I came across The Horse BSC in a local magazine shop, which led me to Born Loser, which led me to here. Now I'm looking for a project bike. I have no wrenching experience, but figured I have to start somewhere.

09-07-2011, 8:00 PM

Retired Army Paratrooper...Still carry a gun for a living in the land of tall mountains and angry bearded men. Been foolin' around with "mode-a-sickles" since 72 when I helped my older Brother build a ridged chopper outta' a 650 Triumph TT special. By '73 owned my first Harley (1961FL) that I still own. Currently got a couple of Bobber projects that one of my Sons and myself are working at (and other folks).
Run around the Carolinas mostly but can be seen anywhere in the Southeast if you ain't lucky...Been known to make cross border covert trips into Yankee owned (Northern) territory...
My family (Wife/kids/grandkids) come first but motorcycles/racing, guns/shooting, hangin' out at the beach surfin' or fishing are what makes me tick. Like to skydive but ain't been in a while due to too many irons in the fire.
Well there it is, I am what I am and I do what I do...Oh yeah, I luvs me some Ho's (lookin' don't hurt...Right?)

09-09-2011, 12:44 AM
My name is Ron I am in Australia and I ride an 03 Triumph America, been made into a rigid, with jockey shift, apes, straight thru pipes, custom made unsprung seat, and sometimes runs an old 750/4 rear gaurd thats been bobbed
I am into the hot rod scene and prefer to run my cars "as found" or barn fresh so to speak.

Would you happen to know of any companies in Suffolk/Norfolk that will ship bikes back to the United States?

09-10-2011, 9:14 PM
My names Ryan and I'm from Atlanta Ga. I'm a new member to the site and only been in the v-twin world for about a year when I bought my 57 Panhead. Prior to that I've ridden /owned sportbikes, dirtbikes, etc. Until my pan gets streetable again (and then some)I'm sure I'll be asking some dumb questions so bare with me. Really like the site and have learned a lot while cyber stalking it for the last several months.

09-10-2011, 9:25 PM
I'm Bryson, been buildin cars for a while, startin to get into bikes. Seems like the right site for that, probably not gonna post much, lurker status.

09-11-2011, 8:41 PM
Hey my name is Cody and I am from Winder Ga. I am currently chopping an xs650, hoping to be riding it by next spring.

09-12-2011, 10:18 AM
Not the best place to ride unless you like pot holes but still the most open roads in the city. My name is Zach,I am 22 and currently zippin around on a 1975 Honda CB360 which is barley modified save for some engine paint, bars, mirrors and lights. Hope to delve into my first real chop this winter once I find a donor bike. Cant seem to find much of a Japanese chop scene in my neck of the woods, everyone just gets a ninja and wheelies till they crash on the expressway, hopefully this site can introduce me to some people by me who actually want to work on their bikes and not just trick.

Stay tuned for a winter build and a few tank paintings I have in the works! :kill:

I been on the site for... I dunno, a year? First forum I ever joined. Guess I missed out on the etiquette, never made an intro. Figured I may as well. I'm 25 and I have lived here in Panama City all my life besides a year I spent in Tallahassee a couple years ago. Never rode bikes or anything growing up. Spent my share of time on a skateboard or on a stage playing music. Buddy from Alabama moved down here a few years ago and was working on a rebel. First friend I had that had a motorcycle, and that could work on it himself. Got me stoked. Got Dad's 83 Magna out of the garage and Jesse helped me get it running. Got my license, road that for a few months. Sold it, traded my truck for a '96 883 sportster, took a week n a half and road out to Texas. Got hooked. Ride everyday, rain or shine, all year (Florida still gets cold...). Now I'm trying to learn to work on it and make it my own. Chopcult really made it seem accessible. Regular dudes can do some extraordinary things. I'm thankful I found motorcycles, and the cult.

Hey guys another vegas native here. Name is Doug.

I'm still in planning/funding phases for my new bike. it's going to be a kz1000 police with a cycleone rigid frame and a spitfire girder front end, and twin aris triangle headlights mounted one above the other.

Currently funding is coming from tips working as a smog inspector (yea we do get tips without sneaking cars through). so it's about 30-60 a day 6 days a week towards the bike which aint bad I guess until I remember I have run the numbers and it's going to be about 8 grand to build. So about 8 months to fund, and roughly the same to build after I get the frame and engine in the garage.

well worth it

09-14-2011, 7:05 PM

Hi, I'm Jay from NJ, currently living in Brooklyn.
Got into bikes about 2 years ago. Have a '73 CL450 that I'm working on, and bought a '93 GS500 as a regular rider.
GS500 was totaled on its 2nd day out last August by some broad in Belmar who decided to accelerate from a dead stop at a light even though I hadn't gone anywhere .
Insurance covered the bike, but not my medical bills - NJ's motorcycle PIP deal can get fucked - so after about a year of not doing much work to anything, I'm looking into picking something else up.
I'm not hip to fabrication, but I can do basic bike maintenance, as the CL450 needed quite the handful of parts to be either overhauled or replaced - no engine work, but almost everything else.
Anyway, you lot have some awesome shit going on, so I'll be lurking here now.

09-15-2011, 6:46 AM
Name's Matt.
From Southeastern CT, currently have two bikes: my garage-built rigid shovel and a 94 FLHTP which is slowly turning into a lawn ornament (I hate riding it, not my style at all).

The shovel has recently developed an aversion to garden gnomes...I'm thinking of renameing her from "Hard Luck" to "Gnome Slayer". Names kinda fall into your lap like that, I suppose.

Looking to start a Jap project bike with my 12 year old son (his idea). How bout a kawa long chop? or Honda street fighter?

09-15-2011, 7:44 PM
hey all, i just moved to San Diego, CA from Greeley, CO. thought i'd make a quick post to see how many others are here in SoCal... figure there's quite a bit. :-)

Hey guys I have been lurking for a bit. I am a friend of Ashy's and a few others.

My name is Xander, currently I am "living" in socal but I really do live out of a suitcase. I have built a few bikes in the past but they have all been sold away. Currently I have a bobbed rebel that I got from my brother (stock). You gotta make due with what you are given.

Hopefully within the next 6-12 months my wife and I will buy a place which will give me access to a bigger workspace. I promised myself I would not get into another project until that happens.

Look forward to my time here.

Just recently I have seen a couple of local chops that kick started some intrest and now all I can do is obsess over what my next project will be. It will take a wile though as I am healing from my gnarly lowside on the interstate.

09-21-2011, 6:48 AM

I'm from Melbourne Australia, just moved here from Perth, I've always been into anything with wheels and an engine, I've built some cars, a few early holdens, and a owned a couple bikes, but the itch needs to be scratched and it's time to chop up a bike. I've been lurking on here a while checking out the stuff built here, so I figured I should sign up so I can ask a shit load of questions................

09-21-2011, 6:08 PM
hello from SoCal.

Been riding a couple years, ducati monster. I've been trying to find a chop/bob project bike for a while now but everything out here is ridiculously priced. Been a fan of CC for a while, but stayed off the forums. I like most all bikes, but bikes with a bunch of plastic crap on them don't appeal to me.

buddy gave me a POS 84 CB700SC that was rotting on the side of his house. Figure I'll give it a shot and see what I can do.

09-22-2011, 9:12 AM
What's up from Brooklyn everyone. Recently picked up a 1989 1200 Sportster and really happy with it. Got some mild modification plans to it initially and then maybe someday get it to a level that some of you guys have your bikes to. Such a great community of people here so far, can't wait to keep exploring.

Keep the rubber side down, hopefully I'll see some of you on the road!

(not the best photo, need to wait until it stops raining and I'm not at work during the day light.)

Hey guys,

I'm a total noob to bikes. I don't even have my license yet. Someone gave me a bike that's all in parts, so I'm going to build a chopper out of it. I joined to do research into building bikes. After this bike is done I plan to build a bigger one... If all goes well and I like it.

Thanks for the awesome site.

09-23-2011, 4:23 AM

I'm Ty from Seattle, WA. I ride a Dyna, work for a HD Dealership, drink beer, play drums, listen to heavy metal music, and love my wife and dogs. Pretty much always hungry.

. Pretty much always hungry.

Now that you mention it I am starved I gotta eat.

09-25-2011, 5:31 PM
Hi I am Swedish Matt. As you may have guessed already I am from Sweden. I ride a 72 Ironhead that I hardtailed.

Somewhat artsy picture of it but that's all I got right now.

My next project will most likely be a xs650 as they are cheap as hell around here. Other than bikes I am into Cadillacs or just about any old american car with a V8, but mostly Cadillacs.

I'm Dan, from Brazil. My family is from Detroit, but I was born and raised here.

My everyday ride is a Dyna '08 that I'm starting to chop, nothing too rad. I'm also helping a buddy turn his CB 400 '84 into a cafe racer.

Hey! I've been fooling with bikes since 2008. Fuel prices made me look for a cheap bike. Found the Kikker bikes and just grew to love bikes and have an appreciation of all kinds of bikes. I'm mainly a fan of HD's, but can appreciate the work and craftsmanship people put into just about anything. Had a Kikker 200, but wanted something bigger. Ended up pulling the bike apart and stretching the frame 7 1/2 inches and putting it back together with a 96 Yamaha Virago 250 motor, custom parts and HD parts. Only thing left on the bike that was Kikker is the frame. I would love to build an HD, but first I have to get some other stuff paid off and my finances in order. It may be awhile.

Either way, I've lurked around here a good while and finally got around to registering. Here's a couple pics of my little 65MPG chop. The bike isn't done and several things still may change, but been shaking it down the last couple months seeing what I do and don't like; what works and what doesn't.

hey whatsup guys. my name is Deckard. ive been checkin this place out for a while now and finally got the wild hair to sign up. im not to computer savvy so yall will have to bear with me. plus im doin this from an iphone. i hope to have a reg computer in my house pretty soon, it will probably make this shit a little easier. anyway, ive been choppin and ridin for about 15 years now. im definately into the old shit, though i do miss my twin cam softail fatboy at times. i traded it for a diamond in the rough shovel chop which is my current sled. it is definatelly a work in progress, as is most of the shit i ride/drive. anyway, my thumb is getting tired so i gotta bounce for now. hope to be able to put up some pics later. be cool and enjoy the ride. Deckard.

Hi all,im a bit of a hobby bike builder, and do plan to do me a chop one day, when i grow up. Im doing some builds at the moment, that are streetfigher based, but please dont hold that against me!:)
I havent a lot of time at the moment to write a lot,but will post some more when time allows.
So far (lol)one of my fave things here is the babe thread. Living in a one horse town i forget that beautiful women exist out there, and there are so many nice pics to look at!:D
I live in a small village called New Hartley,so a question for you. "what do you call a good looking woman in New Hartley?? Answer, a tourist!
(im better looking than some of the women here, even after not shaving for a day or two.....).
Back soon with some bike bits and pieces!!

09-30-2011, 10:16 AM

I'm Steve, 36 (and 3/4), never owned/ridden a bike before but I've been given an '81 Suzuki GS1100E to do up so I figure I'll "make it my own".

It's 20 years since I dicked around with bikes (Honda CD175's, CB125N etc) but I'm fairly handy and patient so hopefully, in time, I'll make something nice out of what I got.

Heard about this place on another forum, specifically on a thread by fellow member Mlc216, so I thought I'd come take a look at what's "do-able" to these machines :D

09-30-2011, 5:34 PM
hi everyone, my name is Aren, and i just got a '92 883 motor that i am going to be putting into a rigid frame eventually. this is my first Harley/American motorcycle anything. i have been lurking around for a couple of months, and felt like i should finally introduce myself.

10-01-2011, 12:36 AM
Hey. just signed up names Graeme but most people call me Wafer. Was riding an 81 Shovel tillsome no mind pulled out infront of me in her mini van 10 weeks ago next tuesday..Managed to lay it bown just before the impact but still way more free custom work than I was looking for . Lucky to still be here and I won t be wheeling around in a chair so thats good. Having said that though I won t be going out danciing any time soon (not that I d be going dancing anyway just a figer of speech) Broke my left foot and FUCKED my ancle up but good,Broke three vertabrae in my back , dislocated my right shoulder and ripped both byseps, and donated a shit load of blood to the pavement through the back of my scull. Just started to walk again about a week or so ago ( with one of those 4 wheeled walkers with a brake on each side) Still can t sit down cause I got some sort of nerve damage in the tailbone area so that REALLY sucks but it is nice to be walkin again. Anyway soon as I m a bit more mobile I ll be needing a shitload of parts to put the ride back together. Really kool site, glad I found it. PEACE .

10-01-2011, 11:45 PM
Hello, the name is Chris. I've been lurking for a good bit and finally decided to join and talk some shit.
I love the site, most of you are pretty rad, some are kinda dorky and only two or three are retarded.
I have a Sporty, an R6 and a 79 XS650. I'll ride most anything except a dick or chrome ponies.
I live in LA and am in love with your mom.

10-02-2011, 4:39 PM

Live and build in a single wide just north of Houston

10-05-2011, 12:41 PM
Been lurking here for a while, decided time to log in. I've owned 15 bikes, all English from AJS to Velocette, some cafe racers, some choppers and one Kawasaki Streetfighter project. Sold a '67 Bonneville 3 years ago and picked up an '02 Sportster. I've been slowly modifying it for the past 3 years, but now it's torn down and getting done right over the winter. Pics of changes over the last few years, last changes were 5* rake and 11" Progressive shocks.

10-05-2011, 1:05 PM
Finally I signed up for this forum. I've been lurking around this forum for quite some time already.
I'm a 34 year old Austrian living in Germany.
I've been riding and tuning Vespas for more then 10 years. Then I drove a Yamaha FZ6 for some time. Last year I decided I ned something where can spend some time in the garage again and got myself a '93 XL1200.

Just saying hey I'm new to the forum because I will probably get in trouble for not introducing myself. I have a little 79' XS 400, she's shitty looking, doesn't go past 80mph, and back fires in the ghetto, but I take a lot of pride in her because I re-built her myself with help from great friends.

10-13-2011, 12:59 PM
whats up everybody my names damian and im from the dirty jersey. i am 22 years old and work on motorcycles full time at manx cycle in dover nj. love building custom chops and bobs and love helping other freinds with any type of custom fab on their bikes. have 2 kids at 2yo and 4yo and couldnt be any happier. just came on here to say whats up to my fellow chop crew.

10-14-2011, 1:57 AM
wow, more cool shit on another motorcycle board. kind of a streetfighter fan myself, but respect all customs no matter what kinf of label people hang on them. i'm a former professional motorcycle mechanic that's stuck in a factory job sucking up the cushy union benefits. got 8 bikes right now, 4 hondas,3 suzukis and a ducati monster. in the middle of a huge project rebuilding my 78 el camino that i've owned since high school. this project has served to remind me why i prefer working on motorcycles.

10-17-2011, 12:09 AM
Hey guys ima newbie from Hawaii. Been messing around with bikes since i got my first bike in 2003.

Started out with a brand new 2002 Honda Shadow vlx 600, then wanted a bigger bike so customized an 1994 Suzuki Intruder 1400. After that started working on a Pro street 2003 Buell XB9r after that, but had to sell that to buy house.

Currently have to many projects to work on. Jus sold a couple of Rebel 450's this year, a 1986 & 1987, one of which was my ride for the past 3 yrs after i sold the Buell. Worked on couple of friends bikes this year, 2007 Yamaha Vstar 650 and jus finished a 2007 Suzuki Savage 650.

My personal projects consist of a 1994 Suzuki GS 500 that will be my ride. Jus picked up a 1980 Kawasaki KZ440 and recently got a Honda CM400T for free.

I attached a few pics, the shadow is my first bike that got me started. The rebel is my last bike that i recently sold to finish my next bike, which is the GS500. The last two are my friends bikes that just recently finished.

Anyway, this is a great forum and love all the write ups, see u all online:)

10-17-2011, 12:51 AM
Hey guys! Swedish guy here born 26 years ago that goes by the name of Rickard. A couple of months ago I bought my first ever bike (if you don't count my dirt bikes I had 9 years ago). It's a Suzuki GSX 400 -83 with the obvious goal of choping it up into a choper. This will be my first chop ever, actually this will be my first metalwork in the garage ever. I will start a buildthread on this (if you have those here) and keep the garage porn to a maximum! Over and out!

10-17-2011, 11:04 AM
aaaand...... it looks like I found another great way to NOT earn my already overpaid salary. Born and raised in Houston, TX but currently in South Carolina for work. Been looking and reading for a week now and I'm glad I found this place. I ride an 06 softy and can never seem to be happy with the looks. It has a great platform but the bolt on shit is just way too easy. Cutting the rear fender struts tonight so there is no turning back!

10-17-2011, 2:36 PM

Just another idiot with a few bikes, a grinder, and a welder from Chicagoland.

Have an 04 vstar 1100, and a couple old Yams. No major chops, but my wifes xs400 will be going under the knife some more soon.

Hi, I'm Michael from east central Indiana. I have an XS650, a cb350, a Kikker 5150 200, a 70's Amen Saviour frame for a cb350 and an engine for it, and a couple of baskets full of parts from here and there. The Kikker is the only thing complete and running. One of the reasons I'm here! I really like the how to articles and advice from folks who know what they are doing. Oh yeah, the classifieds are like a candy store!!

Just a little intro before I post on the main forum.......Headcase here.......A lifelong engine builder/machinist trying to etch out a living doing engine machine work and fabrication here in Stoughton Ma.....Been building engines professionally since the eighties....mostly street car stuff.and cylinder heads for garages.. then did the Nascar thing in the 90's, and now my days( and nights) are spent serving the motorcycle industry with performance cylinder heads, precision cylinder boring and crazy fast Harley engines....Love the site especially the how to posts....Mostly a lurker but I will try to post up some pics of bikes and other cool shit we've done..... Headcase :cheersmate::cheersmate:

10-24-2011, 4:47 PM
Hey y'all...

I'm Liam, a 27-year-old Philadelphian. I am a member of a similar, yet unnamed moto board currently. That particular board is a bit draconian in their treatment of posts and posters, so thanks to a new buddy, xianleather, I found you folks.

Probably a good thing. This other board is for American, Brit, and Euro only. There's a lot of good Jap iron out there, and I cut my teeth on that shit, and usually keep one or three in the garage.

My main scoot is a hardtailed Blockhead chopper. Skinny tire, pretty traditional. It's fairly mild - ignition, exhaust, intake, Torrington inner cam bearings, and a Shovelhead breather, foot-shift five speed. The frame's 1.5 in the back, four in the downtubes, and 38 degrees of rake.

I also have some Jap shit that usually comes in and out of the the shop at a fairly high rate of velocity. The current work commuter/beater is a '98 Katana.

I am an auto parts wholesaler, and I run a moonlight auto and bike shop out the back door of my shop, a little tiny one on the back of my house (HUGE by city standards!)

I typically posted stories on a weekly art thread at the other site, but they started being 'disappeared'. If any of you guys like reading stories about 'the life', holler, and I'll post up all the past ones I've written in the anytime art thread, and new ones as I write 'em.

10-24-2011, 6:42 PM
howdy folks, Mike here from Annapolis MD. Got a 76 XS650 bobber project Im working on. Nothing too special, going cheap so dont expect to see any chrome or high dollar parts in the build thread. look forward to sharing some knowledge and some stupid questions (posed by myself). Thanks!

10-25-2011, 6:26 PM
Just joined up a few day ago. Haven't had much time to look around yet. Here is a pic of the shovel I'm working on.

10-25-2011, 7:36 PM
got over here from the j.j.. i cant belive i was missing this so here we go.. 32 year old mechanic / welder / fab / guy...been into and raised on bikes and hot rods my whole life now im ruining my kids with it too.. daily driver is a blown smalll block model a, and two hot rod ironheads right now. first street bike was a basket bsa chopper..12" over front ridgid , bla bla, built a lot of bikes in my shop from hondas to harleys to triumphs. im more into doing than talking shit on the internet but there seems to be a realm of info from like minded people here, and i always get inspired by that..bear with me while i figure this place out thanks.

G'day everyone,
Just to introduce myself
I'm from just down past Melbourne in Victoria
I first stated riding bikes on the road in '77 and started buggering about with them two weeks later.
My current bike is a Triumph Rocket 3.
In order not to bugger it up I have a small project based around an xt550 frame on the go.
While I was lurking around here I found some good info and a few of you fellas looking for some I might have so I thought I woud share what I can where I can

10-27-2011, 8:38 PM
Hey guys, been reading the site for awhile figured it was time to join.

10-28-2011, 3:32 PM
Hey everyone. I have been reading a lot and posting rarely in the Japanese bike section but figured I would come in here and introduce myself. Got my first bike this spring, a little'04 VLX and have been chopping it up ever since. Had a buddy of mine do a frame mod on it and couldnt be happier. Working on the front end and exhaust now. I learned the basics of welding on shore duty in the Navy and now I am trying to get batter at it and get more comfortable. Right now I'm just doing gas welding until I save a bit of money and pick up a MIG. Rebuilding my garage shop after getting the house broken into and everything stolen in Jan of this year.

This site is great for knowledge and ideas, thanks for being a supportive and answering all our noob questions and dropping knowledge on us.

10-28-2011, 7:06 PM
Hello, I'm Jaime from Whittier, CA. I decided to make my transition from riding sports bikes to choppers. I love this site already. The variety of bikes are awesome. I'm currently building my 1st chopper. I can see I'll be checking on here for new ideas from time to time.

10-29-2011, 2:02 AM
Hey guys, my name is Chris and I have a Culting problem....
I`m from the west coast of Canada and am currently sans-cycle but with any luck I should have enough scratch to get started on a build in the not so distant future. I spend more hours than I care to admit on the site but god damnit I just can`t quit you Chop Cult!

10-29-2011, 10:59 AM
Hi everybody,
I'm Aaron and I have a motorcycle problem. I have been reading through Chopcult's forums, and I signed up to get access to pictures that weren't showing up. I'd rather be riding than surfing the net any day, but some of your rides have inspired me to get three or four more bikes so one will always be operational. I'm currently cruising an '83 VT500C that my wife has decided is to small for her on the pillion, so once I get another two-up bike it'll be getting some mods. It currently just has ATV handle bars to replace the buckhorns that I trashed on a lowside 23 hours after I bought it. They don't give me nearly as much leverage but I think they look way better. Keep up the inspirational work.

Thanks to Fab Kevin for the bad ass parts and advice, Jims motors here in High Point, NC was a HUGE help in rebuilding tranny and heads and gettin this runnin...Got to fix a few issues and then take this thing out and thrash the 92" motor like it was built for!

Just joined up. From Dallas, TX and got my firs bike at around 7 or 8 been riding since then. I'm back now and looking to chop my first sportster.

11-11-2011, 7:15 PM
Well I'm back...was on a hiatus due to a loss this summer, had no motivation. Now that bikes parked for the year and snow is coming, I'll be living vicariously through all you folks in warmer regions...so I aplogize in advance for alot of replies. Lots to catch up on. Being laid off does have some perks!!!

just found this site after being an un-welcomed guest on another forum because i was building around a japanese motor -- just don't have the money for american and british iron.

i'm chris, originally from new york but went to college in virginia where i worked in a hot rod shop for nearly 5 years. i built this during my waning days there and just barely got completed before i set out to travel the world. i'm currently in nepal with cheap royal enfields wizing by me everywhere i go. but it's been 8 months on the road and i'm out of money and headed home. my bike bug has been iching for about 2 months now and would be excited to get back into some building when i return but i met this german chick and i'll be moving to germany at the beginning of 2012. hopefully i'll get acquainted with some bikers and builders out there for some fun.

anyway, here is my bike (as it currently sits in my mothers basement in new york):

1978 Kawasaki KZ750 twin engine
1970 Honda CB500 front end and wheel
1980 Yamaha XS400 rear wheel
1980 Honda XR500 ??? tank ....butchered

in this other photo you can see a bike that i decided to start building for a friend to save his 90's GSX750 that started to rust in his back yard

(in this photo you can see the headlight that i ripped off by accident in the bottom right hand corner of the photo. i promise everything else is much more securely welded :D)

Hey everybody, this is "Spagetty" from Spagettys Garage Co. Im a Bike/ Hotrod builder and painter out of SanFernando Valley CA. I love long walks through the desert, good bourbon, anything fast and cheese that stinks! My current death machine is a long 66 Triumph that will hopefully be finished soon and ready for yall to see. I run a small home grown business building and painting, and feel like one of the lucky few who get to do what I love for a living. "Ride Fast, Die Happy!"

Hey guys. I'm an architect that's been wrenching on cars and bikes since I was 12 years old. I have a shovel-powered bobber I built, a Triumph Daytona I've rebuilt a couple of times, and a '78 FLH I just finished rebuilding from the frame up, with a stroked and bored motor. For the car guys, I am also...slowly... working on a '66 Chevelle convertible, 327 powered with a Tremec T-56 trans. I lurk more than I participate, but I'll throw my hat in on occasion and I'm always up for posting if it will help someone out.

Hey guys just found the site. I'm out of Southern NJ, close to Philadelphia not Jersey Shore! Building a Redneck Monoshock, just getting in the final stretch hope to have it running in a few weeks then out for paint. Also have a custom Roadstar I built and a highly customized BD Chopper that got me started in this madness. I keep another stock Roadstar out in Phoenix, AZ and do tons of riding out there, just got back from the Rocky Point Rally last week. Love to do the bar hopping thing and long rides if the scenery is nice. I'll post up a build thread on the Redneck when I get time.

I would like to say "Hey !" and a big thumbs up to this Forum for a "Code of Conduct" that can actually be read and understood by anyone who isn't a lawyer or a literary nerd.

As for myself, I ride a 1988 Savage, a cool nimble little 650cc single which sits at 165 Kg kerb weight, and manages to earn its due respect at the lights even with its measly 32bhp.

You may think 32bhp is definitely not much, but with a mere 165Kg, it is enough to get me to destination. My favorite cruising speed is in the 60mph area anyway, and I get a very nice 60mpg at that speed.

Belt drive and a clunky, beefy 4-speed gearbox mean more time to ride and less time wrenching. Unfortunately, a small (2 gal.) OEM tank and a tank-monuted speedo mean both will have to go, a 4 gal tank and bar-mounted instruments are on their way.

I have named her "Barabbas" because when I got her (6th hand, talk about a USED bike!) I literally saved her from the scrap yard. She was in such poor shape she was a true grit "rat bike", yet she rode the 500 miles to her new home cool as a wink, at a cruising speed of around 60mph.

She is currently stock, and looks quite a lot like a Sportster with the rear cylinder missing - not that you'd notice on the road, I get a lot of waves from Harley riders and shrugs from "Fisher-Price" plastic jobs (superscooters - twist'n'go automatic transmisison on a superscooter is the ultimate paradigm for "anybody with enough money becomes a rider" - ugh)

I have a nice winter project in mind, and would like to convert her into something like ... well, certainly not a bobber nor a chopper, but a medium-long range tourer with 1940/1950's looks.

Wish me luck !

Hello everyone, gonna try to make this short and to the point. My name is Dustin, I'm 26 and am a stay at home dad, caretaker for my Grandmother who is in bad health, and owner of a slowly growing small business I have been working on for about 3 years. I'm married, and am Daddy to a beautiful little 2 year old girl, yes I'm wrapped around her finger.

I am an Automotive Technician, Mechanic, Welder, and Fabricator, this is what my business is centered around. I've been into bikes since I was around 12 and got my first one, a little Honda street bike turned dirt bike. That love of motorcycles grew even more when I was 15-16 and started riding to Rallys on a borrowed Shovelhead with a group of guys. Owned quite a few Japanese bikes along the way, but have finally started amassing parts to build my first Harley based Chop.

The bike I am in the process of building will be Shovelhead powered, with Ultima cases machined to accept a set of stroker flywheels and big bore cylinders, can be built to around 103 inches depending on stroke. I have the cases, and big bore non stroker cylinders that I bought by mistake. I also have my front end started, it is a wide glide with panhead lowers that have been completely shaved, going to have a go at polishing them, length will depend on frame, right now it is around 8" over. Wheel choice is a 21" front, which I have, and will be 16" rear. I'm currently saving up for a frame, which will most likely be a 4 up, 0 out, 34 degree, 200 tire rigid. Trying to get the big 3 out of the way that are needed for a special construction title in Kansas, motor, frame, and trans all with MSO or copy of title and bill of sale.

Hey all. I just joined chop cult and wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Nate, I live in Brooklyn, NY, 34 years old, originally from San Francisco. I went to school to be an industrial designer and am always looking for freelance work. Besides that, I own a Tattoo Shop called "Thicker than Water" in the East Village of Manhattan. I rode sport bikes for most of my adult life, but as I get older building something rad to cruise on seems like a much better idea.

Here is my 1965 BSA A65 that I am hoping to finish just as spring rolls around and it starts getting warm

Hey guys,

I've already introduced myself in this thread but I wanted to update it a bit.

I was building a Honda CL350 but decided to move on to a XS650. I've done a lot of work on it since I found one that was already hardtailed. It was setup OK, but needed to be finished.

I did the pipes, seat, remounted the fender, new tail light and bracket, swapped the carbs, jetted, re-wired, battery box, electronic box, BMX peg kicker, and a whole bunch of other stuff all custom by me in my little garage with no good tools. I swapped the bars, new chain, new sprockets (17/30). I need to finish the seat, sissy bar, and a bit of the wiring. Next I want to do 270░ re-phase, PMA, Pamco, and 750 kit.

This is my first bike and I've only rode about 10 times since getting my license in Oct. 2011.

I can't wait for spring when I'll be riding every day. I'm having a blast already.

Here it is, almost finished. (Repainting it in the spring)

Didn't realize there was a spot for intros till now, I've been checking this site out for a while and joined a few weeks ago. Currently I've got an 00 FXDX that I'm in the process of bastardizing when I've got the time or money. I've done some custom work on a couple of cars and bikes in the past only 1 of which wasn't a sport type bike (99 SRAD GSX-R 600, 94ish Katana, 01ish EX 250, and an 86 CMX 450 Rebel) i"ve only got enough knowledge to get myself into trouble and I often end up learning things the hard way. My plan for the FXDX is to keep the geometry stock since I like the way the bike rides but turn it into an anti-club bike (too many people I work with have been trying to talk me into making it into another SOA/Angles clone). So far I've swapped out the stock bars for some Biltwell Frisco's, relocated the turn signals, changed out the seat, pulled the baffles out of the exhaust and a few other odds and ends. Right now I'm waiting for my Christmas presents (hopefully a new die grinder & spray gun) to cut down the fenders and do a few other things before repainting. It's been a bit of an uphill struggle, when I've got the time I don't have the money to do things and when I've got the money I don't have the time. I'm sure we all know how that goes.

Anybody out there know if a 79 CB750 engine will fit in a 73 frame?

Hey all you chopper-type people. Been a lurker for a while, but now that I'm actually ready to start work on my cm450 project I thought I'd post up a proper intro before bugging you all for help. Here is a pic of her when we met in Haight-Ashbury, before I tore her apart and brought her to LA with me in pieces.

Thanks to all for the info I continue to absorb on these forums.:killerjob:

12-18-2011, 9:55 AM
joined a lil while ago but don't get online much & pc probs meant i couldn't log in for quite awhile & when i could i couldn't access anything... hopefully that's resolved.
I'm in upstate NY, also a member on JJ, & currently have 3 projects i'm tryna get done thru the winter: a rebuild on my '80 shovel,a '97 sporty basketcase & hopin to get my 2000 superglide to more of a long-haul/bagger setup...my only long ride on it so far taught me a 1-day 450+ mile trip is too much for my old ass w/the bike in stock form, but i'm not ready to get on a real '"tourer" yet.today's the 1st really cold day so far ,so i've spent more time ridin' than any wrenchin thusfar.some great bikes & folks on here from what i've seen & hopin' i can give as good as i hope to get.

I'm blown away by some of the work I've seen on this site already so I will be do ALOT more cleaning up of my work to make it come even close to the level of quality on here. I'm the first to admit I don't know shit much of anything but I do alot of reasearch and am always willing to learn. Hopefully I can shine up my turd enough to not be embaressed by posting pictures here. thanks.

hi im mike, im new.... been around hot rods all my life, took the leap and traded my chebby for an unfinished panhead and i like it more than old cars... weird.

12-23-2011, 12:37 PM
New to this site, but been riding my bike for 2.5 years.

I might be in the wrong spot since most of you end up chopping the bikes to minimalistic bikes, whereas I bought mine chopped and have added things back to make it more comfortable since it is my first bike.

Had it for about 2.5 years and the wife has just started to enjoy riding with me on the bike, but this bike is a bit small for the 2 of us, so I will be looking to upgrade to something bigger. When I do that I don't think I will get rid of this bike, but I might chop some of it down to make it lighter and more nimble again.

Here's the bike when I first got it, and how it sits now.

Hi , new here from mn. , great info and bikes here glad i found the site.

12-24-2011, 4:27 PM
Hey Dudes,
Been awhle since Ive snooped around here, so I thought Id to a re-intro?
Im ElkCreek at another site. My first chop was a 1972 Yamaha 650 in 1982, my first shovelhead in 1987. Ive owned and rode Japs, Triumphs, BSA's, and a dozen for so Harleys from flatheads, ironheads, panheads, shovelheads and 1 evolution. I still run my 49 Pan Chop(built by me from ground up including the motor), my 81 FLH custom, and my Trusty and True 1972 CB750K Rat Cafe. Tons of fun. Currently had Noot go through the 49 pan trannie and Im finishing it up now. The Shovel needs rubber b4 next spring, the CB750 need swingarm bushings and rubber. I will be installing a set of 1982 FLT wheels on the 49 pan this winter. Thats about it for me at the moment. I have access to a full machine shop @ work, so I do all my own lathe and mill work and repairs. Never go to dealerships for anything. The Noots help when Im in over my head, and that is usually flywheel work as I dont have a jig, boring and honing as I dont have that jig either, and the last trannie build, as it was a mess. Ill do the trannie next time, as I know what I have in there now.
Hope you all Have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Especially all the Troops around the globe. As a Desert Storm Vet, you are all in my thoughts daily.

Hello there from the west coast.

12-28-2011, 12:12 PM
Hello! I'm new here, and a new rider. I've always liked motorcycles, specially bobbers but the wife was against it until recently. She gave in and OK'd getting a used one and as long as I start small, which is now completely chopped and hardtailed. At this point I'm completely hooked and spent alot of time in my garage transforming my bike into what it is today. This site has been very informative and have helped me with things here and there.

Anyway, just thought I'd check in and say hello from Chicago, IL.

12-28-2011, 6:26 PM
Hey fellas, checking in from Washington State. The names Jarrod and reside in Tenino (T9O) just south of Olympia. I've Gotta 76 Shovel that's been under the knife for some time and I'm hoping to have it up and running by this summer (I think I said that last winter). Anyway, I love checking out people build threads and the tech on here is awesome.

I'll try and get some pics up as soon as I read the how to section.....

Ride Hard, Drink Beer and look at Tities...

What's up new to the site and stoked! I belong to other forum sites and this one totally seems rad. I'm curently working on a 1974 cb550 bobber project. Stoked to get some good insight from the group.

Thanks Jason

Another noob, my name is Rich and I live in central Florida. I have a couple Buells, a couple Harleys, and a crotch rocket. I ride them all.

Enjoying the Cult.

12-29-2011, 8:49 AM
Another new guy here out of Texas. I have a 99 sportster 883 that, as of yet, I have not ridden. I've had a few bikes before, but this is my first Harley. I am currently out of the country and won't be able to start chopping or riding until the spring. The bike is unmolested at the moment, but that won't last too long. In time, I intend to do the 1200 conversion (bought and waiting for me), hardtail it and get a springer. I've been lurking here for a while and it seems like a cool place, I look forward to gleaning whatever information I can and share whatever y'all are willing to put up with.

12-29-2011, 12:14 PM
Hey there.

New dude from BC Canada.
Have an unmolested 93 dyna that will be getting the treatment as soon as my ol and I manage to buy a house with a garage, then the fun will begin. Pretty much here for inspiration and the tech. The tech is good.

Now I'll go back to lurking.

01-02-2012, 11:02 AM
I've been lurking around here for awhile and finally joined,......Lot's of cool stuff around here.

I don't currently have a scoot but hope to change that this spring or summer,...I don't know if will ever cut one up but I do enjoy watching the work others around here do,....

Stumbled across it by accident the other night and am really dig'n it. I recognize some of the names on here from years back, shooting shit on the boards with ya. Used to do the parts gig under the name TotallyWayno. Just going by TXwayno now cause I'm to damn lazy to type out the whole thing anymore. Hope to just check out the site, watch and learn. Also, I'm new to this whole "Blog" thing. Man have I been missing the F'n boat or what?
