I'm Travis from Alaska. Most folks call me Torch or Trex. I've built a 65 Ducati bobber, a 200cc custom Hardknock, A revtech 100 inch hardtail w/ a jims 6 speed and springer, a 1200 Sporty in a paughco hardtail frame and most recently my XS650 hardtail highend bobber. I specialize in metal work of all kinds from steel fab to platinum jewelry. My other brothers Volksjunky and Hawyn9 make up about half of the AK HardKnocks..our own builder/riders club. Everyone in it built there own ride and have specialties like paint leather mechanics wiring and fabrication.

New guy from Boise. Been messing with bikes for a few years. Documented my 1980 XLH chop on XLForum but now that I'm starting to build an XS650 I have to find a new home. I just started a blog called Middle Class Chops (www.mccboise.blogspot.com). It's meant to try and get a community of amateur builders together out here in the Boise area. If you know somebody out here, send them my way.

I'm just a normal middle class white guy who likes building bikes.

I started my XS650 in a Harley Frame Build thread in the Jap bike section so check it out.

Here are a couple of my bikes

I'll be the first to admit, I'm a hot rod guy first, but have always appreciated bikes. I've had a Pre-unit Triumph former show bike three times in the last ten years. Since I'm not well versed on bikes, I wanted something that I could ride and play with to learn on. Just such a project landed in my lap for trade on a friends '26 T Coupe (Search Maximum Evil on the HAMB) For that help, I got a 79 Sportster that's been modified already, but only enough that I can still make it my own. I work at a shop called Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle outside Chicago where I am the shop chief. I just moved to the Chicago area from western MN in August and hope to enjoy the nicer weather on. I'll be asking way more questions than answering and I hope that's alright! Thanks!

Hi. I'm Mike out of Sparks Nevada. I dig building hot rods. Nick at Trumpnut Cycle Parts is building me a 1967 Triumph bobber. We will be filming and photographing the build and posting the progress here.

We shot a 2-part tech video on installing a Trumpnut Pipe Kit for the Lowbrow Customs Tech Video Contest. Check it out over on that thread. We will feature an fully comprehensive pipe building video as well as a ton of other tech videos on the new Trumpnut site when it is done.

A friend of mine turned me on to the site a few days ago and I must say I "dig it." I'm an enthusiast from the WABAC machine. Things like scooters that were one of a kind finds I will, and do, collect.

I like it all. Chopped, bobbed, rat. stock , modified, ...Japanese, European, or American. I see it all as art and one hell of a Hobby.

However. Fully restored to showroom,,,uh. I do appreciate that. Really I do. But me... I'm not a purest. Hell. I never left anything alone.....

Glad to be here...Scott

OK, I guess I need to post my intro. Names Jeff, I go by jdbatman on the net just because I have for many years. One of my old bikes had a bunch of vinyl bats like the old Barris Batmobile so the name kinda stuck. Been riding for over 20 years, got my first "real" bike when I was stationed in Germany back in '89. Current daily transport is a '95 Bad Boy (yeah, I know gay name, but the bike is beautiful). I'm rebuilding my '70 Triumph chopper for the millionth time. I've built a few Ironheads over the years and have redone the Triumph quite a few times. This time is taking forever though. I'm almost there but still a little ways to go. That's it for now, ask if you have any questions.

04-18-2010, 6:16 PM
Sorry for the double post. The computer must have hiccuped!

04-19-2010, 9:56 AM

04-19-2010, 10:30 AM
Hey. My name is Helge and I live in Chicago. I ride a '66 Triumph 6T that runs every once in a while. I also surf (yes in Lake Michigan), and race mtn bikes. BTW, if you are wondering the pig icon is my company logo, I'm a personal chef.

Here's the beast. As of now its in pieces getting some new paint.

Whats up!? Qball here..just a new guy at Chop Cult. Living in the I.E.
My bro HFMC told me I better say "HI" or I'd get hunted down and forced to ride a moped or a fat chick! You know...Fun to ride, but ya don't wanna get caught on one? (or worse)
I ride a 2001 HD Softtail quasi-custom. My crew calls it an abortion of a bike. But they can pack sand! It suits me just fine.
Looking to meet good people and expand my motorcycle world of friends. Just like Arlo Gurtrie sang in his song titled 'The Motorcycle Song' "I don't want a pickle, just want to ride my motorsickle."
Someday I want to build a rice bike, SV500 or XS650.
Contrary to public opinion, explosives and beer do go together!!

Hi all.
I'm here in Brisbane Australia via Canada.
Been here 4 years now, enjoying the hell out of myself.
Have ridden Harleys for a lot of years and am now getting back into Honda's.
I'm in the process of building a bobber out of a '79 750-4 and am getting there, slowly.
My first bike was a 450-4 honda many many years ago and it was a ton of fun and tough as hell too!
Shameless self promotion time now: I own a tattoo and piercing studio in Zillmere called Lukes Tattoo Parlour at 10 Handford Rd. 0432240115
I'll post some pics soon and am willing to trade tats for parts of equal value kind of thing.
I need a set of 35 mm front forks, front wheel with drum brake if at all possible, chain and some small stuff.
Any and all parts considered as I plan on building at least one more so contact me about any bike parts at all.
Thanks for listening and I'll hopefully see ya around!

Great to have you on here. I have a feeling we'll all be learning a lot more from you rather than the other way around. The wealth of knowledge from you and your pops is very welcome!

hey names Bean, found this place after getting a few parts from Lowbrow

04-27-2010, 11:07 AM
Just happened across this site, and looks like my kinda joint...

My name is Evan, I am 24 years old, from Paducah, KY. I am a pipefitter by trade, and I do custom paint/ fabrication out of my shop, Butcher's Shop Customs.http://www.myspace.com/thebutchershopcustoms (Named so because my parents, family, teachers always accused me of "butchering" perfectly good vehicles)

I've built hotrods, mud trucks, and choppers. I used to ride dirtbikes. My current rides include a 1954 Chevy 3100 truck (my first truck), 2008 Sportster Custom, and a 1978 CB750 rigid that's still in the works.

04-27-2010, 1:39 PM

04-28-2010, 7:14 AM
Cheers guys! I'm Bret from Wake Forest, NC. I had the chance to meet some of you over the past weekend on the Revenge Run and it was suggested I join the Cult. Glad I did. Lotsa great stuff here. After running with the Brit Iron Rebels and Ton-Ups it's always cool to get a fresh perspective from a different group.

I'm a freelance art director/designer for the entertainment industry and when I'm not doing that I'm the co-owner of Her Majesty's Thunder. (http://www.hermajestysthunder.com/)

I'm currently riding an '05 Bonnie Black, one of the last ones made in England and carbureted. No major performance mods yet only because I can't decide what direction to go with it. I will say after hearing your bikes this weekend I think I'll just replace my tank badges with ones that say "Singer". LOL! I also have a Modded out '69 Vespa Rally with a 210cc in it. Thing hauls ass when it runs.

04-28-2010, 3:23 PM
Oi . Live in Castle Hill in Northern Sydney . Used to run a small shop called Chopaweeza Customs but in this climate it went the way of many small businesses & closed last year . Some of you may know my builds from places like TCU or the JJ . These days I mostly import cars from the US South West and regularly make trips to LA & Vegas so am looking forward to checking out Dino's on my next trip in July . At the moment I'm gathering parts for a Flyrite rigid framed sidecar outfit using a 60's fairground ride as the chair . I've heard that Longbeach is the place to grab bits so I'll be visiting the swapmeet there at the end of July as well.

04-29-2010, 11:22 AM
wats up guys, been on the TCU for a little while, been lurkin on here for a while, decided to finally make a profil and show my build and such. from Bozeman, MT, ridin a xs i built...

thanks for the great site, hoping to learn as much as i can...

04-29-2010, 9:20 PM

I'm in Northern California and have been around Motorcycles all my life. My Dad was a old school chop builder/rider and my first build at 19yrs old was a 72' Shovel, I have had a lot of other bikes and kustom cars since and came here for a Chop Cult good time.

05-02-2010, 10:13 PM
Saw the ad for the site in Cycle Source and immediately hadda check it out. Live in Hollister and have owned the same 79 shovel for over 20 years. It's actually been parked and on hold for a few but has rumbled to life again lately.
The biker art feel here is appealing to me as you don't see much of that these days. I do a weekly comic strip called Keeping Up With Jones, about a biker named--any guesses? Yes, Jones. Seemed like a good idea at the time and it seems to be going okay after 7 months worth of weekly strips.
Looking forward to hanging out here as time permits.

05-03-2010, 11:31 AM

I'm new here....I live in Kentucky. I've had a couple of bikes, just got rid of a 70s styled Ironhead chopper, 45" project, '71 Kawi Bison and a million parts so I could go through a divorce and what not..so now I have a 2006 Triumph Scrambler Shovelhead motor that wants a lot of money and parts thrown towards it. And i'm just the idiot to do it.

Hey Everyone! I'm a newbie here from Wisconsin. New to bikes too. Just picked up my first one last weekend and couldn't wait to jump into things with it. It's a 77' Yamaha XS750 Special. I haven't come across too many of these that have been chopped or messed with much, so I'm excited to do something a little bit different. Just cut the back end off of it tonight and am anxious to start bending and welding some metal tomorrow to finish up a hard tail conversion on it. There are tons of great bikes on here with tons of great ideas! Proud to be a new part of the community!

My name is J.R. online everyone calls me spade, I joined this forum because I have been seeing it on the horse and cycle source (only magazines I buy, can only find the dice every few months)
I have been riding for 4 years (on and off) Right now I own a 2006 Buell Blast, I am trying to figure out what would be easier to put into a rigid frame. I have seen several real nice blast bobbers (non redneck engineering) and would like to build something like that. My plan is to stick with the 130 in the back so it does not lose any power with a wider tire.

I really do not like the sportsbike/standard feel of it so I want to mod it to make it more of what I like.

I have riden these bikes ( * layed it down as well)

83 KZ 550 LTD * (First Bike, owned)
86 1100 Sportster * (First Harley, owned)
89 FXR *
2006 Roadking *
84 KZ 750 (sold for 240 to a friend who wanted to ride and I had no time to work on it)
2006 Buell Blast (Current bike)

This is a current picture of me.

I am a member of various forums mainly because I prefer to try and learn as much as possible, never know when you might need the information.

xlforum.net (Do not own a sportster anymore )
triumphrat.net (do not own a triumph but I like them)
westcoastchoppers.com (learning about the bikes because a buddy is really into them)
Jockeyjournal.com (Really cool people GREAT information as well)

I am glad to of joined this forum, I am hopeing to learn as much as possible so when I start (figure out) what to do with my blast.

Well, My name is Silas. I live in NE. Parents were rock-a-billy hippies who planted trees for the National Forestry Service, moved all the time. I grew up in the back of a school bus around stoners, hippies, bikers and anyone flying of the radar. I'm married with 3 kids. Somehow I stopped movin and ended up here, for now anyway.
Next to raising my sons, building my bike has been the most rewarding thing I've done.

05-17-2010, 11:05 PM
Hey all, a good friend pointed me this way, so here I am. I'm not new to bikes, just new here. Currently, I'm bob-ing a 78 Gs750.

I just picked up my first project bike ('73 Ironhead). I'll be completely honest, I know all of jack and sh*t about engines, customizing anything other than my pubic hair...wait, to sum it up, I know nothing. So be prepared for some dumb questions (I'll try and limit them with the search function...).

So here are the issues that I know of, I haven't had much time to rip her clothes off....
The rear cylinder has rust in it.....I'm betting the front does too.
Not sure if the electric start works, doesn't matter anyway, she's going to kick only.
Frame seems to be in good shape.
There is rust inside the gas tank....hooray!

And here is a pic.....

05-23-2010, 7:36 AM
been looking, so here I am. Plainfield, IL. Done a few bikes. Just about done with up a 91 sporty hardtailed. Then on to a shovel I'm gathering parts for.
f A few of the bikes.

Just wanted to say thanks to Wingman13 for telling me about the site!! I have a Hot Rod/Bike shop here in Fayetteville N.C. wwwtbcworks.com where we build anything that has wheels, I've been getting into the bike seen more and more everyday. Always building a Pro Mod or a bad ass street car, it's time to put my skills to work and do alittle bit more on the bike side! So i hope to learn and become friends with some of you, if not all!! Got alot to look at, so i'll be posting to get to know what the Chop Cult craze is all about!

05-23-2010, 12:42 PM
I am Usernames wife. We are doing a ground up build with a fatso motor. Getting ready to post some pics. We'll see what everyone thinks.

05-23-2010, 1:32 PM
I've been riding about twenty years. 13 of them on Harleys. I have a 2000 883 Sportster motor in a Paughco rigid frame. I built most of the "accesories" on it. The forward controls, sissy bar, various mounts. I Frisco mounted the tank as well. I also just recently bought a Dyna Street Bob. I need something to carry the boy, and something that won't beat the hell out of me on the long rides. I'm no greybeard, but there is a lot of grey in my beard. I look forward to seeing and reading about what everyone else is doing. I do need to re-design the jockey shift set-up that broke on me. I can't see spending a few hundred on something I can build myself. I look forward to meeting a bunch of you.

Wylde Bill

Cool site, glad I found it. I rode choppers in the early years never stopped riding just haven't been choppin but its like that first love you never forget it. built alot of bikes, check out my photos to see a few. I use to own a shop but closed it and went underground, still building on the side just not as many a year, but always have one in the works, it's my therapy.
If your in the Okla. area next month 6-12-10 check out tougherthanhell.com It's a rally me and two of my friends started this will be our ten year, we give away a new Harley & new mustang every year.
Booked Charlie Daniels last year this year we have booked Johnny Lang.

Hey, everyone.
I am in Southern California. I have two metrics I am working on- '69 CB750 and the newest addition is a '76 XS650.
My XS is still stock while the CB gets the chopping block. I am hoping to have at least one on the road in the next couple months. I will be sure to add and update pictures as I move along in the builds.

Thanks for the awesome forum.

I'm new here....I got an invite from a cult brother. This site is kickass and I've never seen so many hardcore BADASS bikes!!! Here is a few pics of my '76 Superglide Shovelhead 1340cc. I just finished up. It's all new powdercoat and paint. Everything on this bike has been massaged while apart. I replaced a lot of the seals and gaskets....added a corbin seat and 8" rise Carlini drag bars and grips.....and added some new chrome peices here and there. I had all the holes welded up in the rear fender to smooth the look and added new signals front and rear. I installed a ton of new chrome and stainless hardware along the way..including a new chainguard ect. I rebuilt both calipers and had the lower fork legs powdercoated with the frame. The wiring was a mess so I gutted it and totally rewired the bike the way it should have been. I spent hours polishing chrome with a buffing wheel to bring it back to life. Needless to say, I have a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into her but it was all worth it in the end. I get compliments on it about everytime I pull into a gas station. I've had several guys tell me that if they didn't know bikes it would be hard to tell if it was a year old or 30 years old. Well.....just wanted to give you a little info on it and show you all some pics. It's time to start over and build a new toy so look for it in the classifieds. Indianapolis, IN.

Well, I thought there might be an intro post, but never thought to look for it.
Anyway, I am Kenny, and I like motorcycles, haha. Here is the one I am building now.

06-10-2010, 1:23 PM
Hi, I'm mark. Im addicted to low ass, skinny rear tired, no chrome, rigid framed, loud enough to scare grandma motorcycles! I don't have one as of yet. But I'm working on it. I have a 72 cb500 that I'm aching to rebuild the motor and chop the shit out of but I need help. If anybody reading this is in the upstate NY, binghamton area Please find it in your battered soul to help me. I can turn a wrench, I'm 34 and I've been riding dirt scooters for 3/4 of my term. I'm just looking for a helping hand and some motivation. Thankz.

howdy folks, i'm Mike from s/w michigan. I'v always been into bikes but my passion has always been cars/trucks..in the sky or on the ground...and everything inbetween (besides tuners). I just scored a 69 triumph trophy 500. Its my first brit bike so the build should be interesting. heard this was the place to be to learn a few things..

p.s. the site kicks ass!

06-13-2010, 8:03 AM
Tristan from SinCity by way of Brooklyn, NY. Got me a 09 XL1200N. Pretty stock except for the usual mods,, exhaust, air cleaner, bar swap(drags), also relocated my speedo. Would love to do more choppin on the scoot, but I'm pretty new to this, and really dont have any REAL tools to do work with. Plus, I'm a little sketchy bout cuttin up a brand new bike. Maybe when she's all paid for. Future plans for her would be mini-apes, springer seat, chopped rear fender. Would love to hardtail her but my back wouldn't be able to take it(due to my crotch rocket days). There are some of the bad-ass bikes I've seen on this site and i hope my baby would someday reach the pimp status of the bikes in here.

Hey all. I'm checkin in from northwest Florida, also known as lower Alabama. Did a career in the Air Force. Owned several bikes through the years, but did without one for the last 15, due to overseas commitments. Finally set enough dough aside to get another ride, a 2000 Fatboy I came across in a local hock shop. It's good to be back in the wind! That's all for now...

Just dropping to say Hi. I've got a 86 Kawasaki 454 LTD that I just started working on. She's rough but I think I can get the old girl running and looking decent before long. Pics soon.

What's up Y'all

I'm Mark, from Texas. Just picked up a '83 Suzi GS, my first ride after going through a bunch of shit and losing my left eye because of it. I've had a couple dirtbikes and whatnot, and a Honda 750 I chopped with a buddy of mine back a few years ago.

A little nervous about getting back in the saddle but the more I look at this bike the more I want to. Needs a little engine work first anyway, the previous owner let it sit with and the insides are pretty disgusting. It wants to turn over though, i'm pretty sure it'll work out cool.

While I work on the motor and jump through hoops to get my licence back and all, I keep eyeballing the sawzall and daydreaming about the chopper it'll be eventually. These 'UJM's were so similar to Honda CBs I'm guessing most of the chopper parts made for those bikes will work just fine. If anybody has any thoughts or advice, let me know?

coming over from the JJ, seeing a lot of familiar bikes and posters here. looking forward to digging in. thanks for another great forum to learn and benefit from.

here's a few shots of my scoot, it looks a little different now though -

Rambled onto the site through following several other blogs. Spent the last 5 years in SoCal and now moved to a much shorter riding season, straight roads and no lane splitting. Anyway in Minnesota right now. Got an 04XL that I've bobbed a bit and a 62/72 hybrid XL chopper being built.

06-24-2010, 7:11 AM
I've been here a few months now, but this is the first forum I've joined so I didn't realize until after I started posting that Intros were required so here it is. lol Try not to judge me too harshly, I'm known for being oblivious and socially retarded in real life too.
I'm 30y/o from just outside Ottawa, Canada. I like to talk out of my ass, make smart alec remarks and once in a while work on a bike or two. I've got a '42 WLA chop, '72 Triumph chop project and a '77 Suzuki GS400 I'm currently deciding whether to chop or not. Don't need another hardtail, but the shorty shocks from Lick's look cool.
Again, sorry for the late intro.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to my new world. I can't explain how you guys got here when I just now discovered chop cult, but whatever, welcome to the new world. lol
Yeah, I've been on the jockeyjournal for a while now, mainly lurking and a very few posts. A lot of deleted posts. So here I am to spread my brand of bull. I really like some of the stuff I've seen in the tech/how to threads and I've also been working on a travel assistance page for JJ. I'll post more info on that in a day or more in that thread. Who knows the more help the better, right?

06-25-2010, 12:25 AM
What's up everyone, new here from New Paltz, NY. I've got a '73 Yamaha TX(XS)650 bobber, currently working on a couple of Triumphs with my buddy Kyle at Lead Fist Cycles. Here they are:

And here's me with a humungo springer I just picked up:

Just thought I would drop a quick intro from northern Ohio. Been riding and cutting up just about anything I could get my hands on since 69. Born in Ohio but grew up in Southern Calif. and back in Ohio now. I was raised on the Chop what Ya got theory! Have been tied up with the doing cb750 chops but I just dug the 82 xs650 out of the shed that I picked up a few yrs. back that has been sitting 20 + yrs. Here I go again! Geno

Illness and 30-day hospital stay kept me away for a while, but hope to be back in the saddle again soon. Sold the shovel and ironhead to hep pay the bills, so need to find another to build. Have decide to do a brit swingarm this co around, so it should be interested. So, if anybody has a lead on anything near the Dallas, TX area...let me know. I can swing about 1800 for the start.

To answer the medical shit...went to ER for breathing issues and a cough (2-months old). Lung biopsy caused the lung to collapse, and too many MRIs and CT scans with that nuclear die cased my kidneys to fail. Not looking for sympathy or any hand outs, just know enquirering minds like to know.

Peace...Paul in Allen, TX

not really a ground up build but....

06-28-2010, 11:20 AM
Hello everyone. New here from Carlsbad, CA. I have been cruising the board and its a really cool site. I own 2 bikes, a 04 Sporty that I just got road worthy after I hardtailed it and 81 XS that sits for now till the Sporty is done. If anyone in the area ever wants to go for a ride let me know.

06-28-2010, 3:50 PM
Hello to all, some of you may know me from The JJ, SFC or a few other boards... I build this scoot a few years back, it was a blast to build, I sold it back in '07... I've been bikeless and projectless ever since due to a busy work schedule and raising babies!.. I've been out of the scene for some time but I'm looking to build something real soon...

06-29-2010, 8:25 AM

What's up people! I'm out of Topeka Kansas and run a precision sheet metal shop. I got an 04 sporty that got blowed the hell up and it's a little on the glam side for most people here but I like it! Also I'm on my Buell Firebolt recently. I love to work on bikes and love the Chop Cult vibe I get here with such good people and GREAT builders. I have gotten the oppurtunity to build a couple of bikes for some family and a few club brothers but now am trying to find the one to build for myself that looks badass and makes the kidneys bleed! I hope to meet many of you at the Twine Ball Run!

06-29-2010, 9:48 PM
I work at the Pentagon here in the NoVA/DC area and I just picked up another Sporty. it's an '86 883 that I plan to hardtail, eventually, but for now I'm just sporting some 10" twisted struts off of Ebay. I'm a member on the XLforum and hang out on the JJ from time to time. I was a QCB before they deleted me for inactivity. Maybe I'll get invited back soon.
Anyway, here's a before but I made some serious progress today. I'll post new pics tomorrow. I know it still needs a helluva lot of work to be considered a "chop" but I think you'll find it's a good start.
Here's a quick snap from tonight's work. Just took off the rear fender and painted the tank a couple days ago, but I'm not done with the tank yet. It's gonna get pretty colorful.

well, hello one and all. most of you already know me as the ass who made a fool of himself on here already on a drunken night at the end of a bad day. my bad... just moved down to sanford florida from greensboro NC to start school at MMI. started riding on a 2002 sportster, planned on chopping it, but, not having any skills, it stayed as it was until it shit out on me and i had to trade it for a new bike, which i love alot more even if it is bone stock. my dream is to build a panhead project when i get done with school... my current plans are to put some burly 12 inch apes on my nightster, do what everyone else does with the short shots in black. im thinking about possibly a springer seat and weld on hardtail down the road, but i think i may just keep the bike suspension since i plan to build a hardtail soon (have the best of both worlds so to speak guess it depends on how soon i can find work down here as well as how soon i can afford to start my build). i was in these bands before i moved, check em out if you like myspace.com/thedirtysouthrevolutionaries i was only in for a little while and myspace.com/blackoutthesky336 if there is anyone in the area willing to let a noob hang with ya let me know, would also love to learn some metalworking and welding cause while ill end up working as a mechanic for harley when im done with school, id really like to work on customs and such at some point. yepp... once again, know i looked stupid... fresh start and moving forward here.

My name is Rob. Old-guy punk rocker and has-been skateboarder. I like Sportsters. I live In east Tennessee. Turn ons include chicks in orthopedic boots wrestling in waldorf salad. Turn-offs include songs that rhyme "highway" with "my way" and motorcycle events that use the word "rumble" or "thunder" in their names.

07-02-2010, 6:06 PM
Welcome Rob. Sporsters rule!

G'day all, nice to be here.....I live on the coast near Sydney, NSW and been around bikes for most of my life. I shoot bikes for a few mags around the world.....that's my love job. To make living money I work as a mental health nurse......I'll refrain from the obvious statement here. Anyway, I'm in the process of building my first rigid, a 71 Shovlehead motor based job.....should be finished in about a month. I'll be posting some pics of the build soon.

07-03-2010, 10:43 PM

Hey all, name's Matt,I'm from a little town called Yucaipa. I was told about this site in a discussion with a friend about the bike I picked up recently(1980 Honda CM400T),so I decided to check it out. Grew up around bikes because of my pops, and the first time I ever rode a bike,it was a '51 Harley Pan-Shovel my dad built when I was 13. This is my first bike I ever bought, and now it's on it's way about a mile across the freeway to Slim of Slim's fabrication for a much needed makeover. Slim's been a friend of mine over the last 4 years,so I decided to have him do the honors of building me a bike, since I have to bust my ass on my current project car. Looking forward to seeing what's around and learning from everyone here as well as adding input if possible.

07-04-2010, 6:56 AM

What the fuck is up Chop Culters,

I'm a guy who saved some cash and bought a camera. I'm a guy who loves two wheeled machines like nobodies business. I'm a guy who thinks most motorcycle coverage pretty much sucks, and isn't geared toward gear heads.

I had an idea, nothing revolutionary, but it's not being done as far as I know,

I basically wanted to do a show on bikes, each episode to have three
builders/garages/groups whatever the situation, and with each of the
three I wanted an interview with the person or people involved, lots
of shots of them riding or working, and for each one a really serious
tech "article" whatever the person wants to cover, rebuilding a top
end, setting up new gear ratios, chopping frames, weight reduction, or
even stuff like swapping headlights or other more "simple" stuff, in detail so that
someone who watches it could really use the knowledge to their

Why do this? Just because it's love that motivates me, sick twisted love. I want to cover builders and wrenches of all types, racers, vintage re-builders, chop shop guys, fabricators, you name it, I don't care what you ride, or what you build, what matters is that a real deal guy or gal is doing it with their hands, because they love this addiction too...

The goal? To have a website with hundreds of how-to tech vids, to profile tons of underground mechanics who don't get their credit that's due to them, and to profile real motorcycle people, not these clowns that wind up on TV...

If you know a builder or mechanic or fabricator that would be interested please get in touch, or maybe you are that person,

I'm in the NYC area and pretty much totally broke, but I can manage travel around the north east and possibly farther in the future, I want to plug your business, get your name out more, get you recognized for the back breaking work you do to make motorcycles great...

your bro,

07-14-2010, 9:36 PM
Hi all. Man am I glad to find this site. I got disenchanted with chopper forums when another site changed "direction" a couple of years ago. I hadn't been paying attention since then and I was shocked when i found this one.

I'm in South Korea right now, so my ability to work on bikes is nonexistent. I DO have a bike, but we won't talk about it here. :) Traffic is nuts over here, but I'm a 100% better rider after riding here. I've learned to split lanes, ride on sidewalks, and ride in oncoming traffic. Everything I learned, I learned from the crazy scooter delivery men. It's gonna be a hard transition when I get back to the states.

There isn't much in the way of "real" bikes here. Mostly shitty Korean and Chinese 125cc's cleverly disguised to look like US/Jap bikes. There IS a whole section of town dedicated to motorcycles. Motorcycle shops and bikes as far as the eye can see. I've poked around down there and there is cool stuff hidden away, you just have to search through the Yamuda's etc. I just saw this bike the other day, it's a shitty Chinese bike, but they made it as cool as they could.

I'm sure everyone has already seen this but it never fails to make me laugh.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysUjYAi0WcQ

07-17-2010, 5:35 PM
Hey guys....

I'm what you might call an armchair chopper enthusiast.....untill about a year ago that is....

I work as a general handy man and gardener here in France.....anyway I did some landscape gardening for a guy I met in the local bar......whilst playing pool we found we had a mutual interest in bikes....he offered me some work......he was so impressed by his new patio etc....he gave me an old '83 Yamaha XV750 SE......only problem is its Swiss registered and hasn't run in 5 years.....but I don't care.....its my first real bike....it needs some TLC....and then its getting chopped! In standard trim its just too damn small for me....I feel cramped just sitting on it.....

I have big plans for my first real bike.....which include a hardtail frame with an 8 inch stretch and a 58 degree rake and 29 - 30 inch over forks.....plus a 230 mm rear tire using a right side chain drive coupled with the original differential and a shortened shaft....when I have the funds to realise those plans I will let you know how I get on.....

I have been a big Harley fan most of my life.....My favourite chopper style is the scandinavian style with the loooooonnnngggg forks.....although my favourite American builder is ex Brit Russell Mitchell at Exile Choppers....

...however here in France Harleys are prohibitively expensive......I have always liked the inline fours from Japan and I have a serious hankering for a Honda CBX 1000 chop. I think a trip to the states is on the cards....been looking at CBX's on craigs list.....cheap!!

Ok......thats me.

07-17-2010, 6:06 PM
PS.....one thing......whats the deal with the friend requests......do you get points or something for how many friends you have......I mean I have a bunch of friends requests.....I've never talked with any of these guys before...so I can't say they're my friends......so what the deal?

07-19-2010, 7:55 AM

doing the noob thing.

I've been around bikes since I was real little. Dad was a motorcycle cop, so I've got pics of me being 5, with a helmet way too big for me, hanging on the back of his FLHTP. On my 4th and 5th bikes now, Buell Lightning and Crossbones.

Found the site through Cycle Source and its a hell of a lot better than all the other scoot forums I'm on. Neither of my bikes are anything special right now, but the Buell is going to get the Cafe treatment eventually and the Crossbones is just waiting for a few more parts to get the fathead bobber treatment from one of these (http://shop.shadetreefabrications.com/Cross-Bones-Conversion-Kit-Cross-Bones-Conversion-Kit.htm) I got on the cheap. Hopefully it'll end up something in the vicinity of this:

[THIS IS NOT MY BIKE (but a pretty awesome one)]

BTW I'm in Philly and down for a ride just about anytime.

Just stumbled across this site a few days ago. Been on the JJ for a while, haven't posted there in well over a year or so now though. Glad to see so many familiar screen names here. Haven't had the money to build anything in a while so I've been MIA on the forum thing, but I'm in the mood to give my bike a mild makeover after spending a few days striping at a shop recently. Got me lurking the internet sites again too.
Anyway, my name is Lonnie, I like to go fast and am into just about anything that will accommodate that. I'm an artist, mainly tattooing, but do freelance design and paint/pinstriping as well as a little photography here and there.

Just found this place from a link on another site. I just got back into bikes after a 30 year marriage. She is gone so bikes are back. Working on my first bike in such a long time means plenty of questions. No pics at the moment. Maybe later. Now I have a lot of reading to do here. What I got is an old Honda- CB350 twin

Doin the obligatory Intro thing.

My name is Al, I ride motorcycles.

07-21-2010, 9:51 PM
I haven't done an intro yet. I'm a CC convert from the Jockey Journal. This place seems a little more reasonable and less fascist.

Motorcycle wise, it's been in my family since I was a kid. Dad rode and drag raced, I followed. My dad was a machinist in Ohio, and his company is about to close and he's being laid off at 66.
My dad in the 60's on his Dream.

I've had many motorcycles, they seem to come and go. Sometimes I'm penniless and have nothing, and spend years building it back up. Right now I have an '80 XS650, '74 RD350, '76 CB750, and a '62 Bonneville. The Bonneville has been sucking my free time and money for 5 years. I love old bikes, all inclusive, and claim to have no expertise in anything. I have a few close friends that help me along.

Besides motorcycles, I'm into old cars. had quite a few, and right now my honey sweety pie is a '53 Desoto

I'm professionally an industrial designer, but I try to have a creative outlet at home and do illustrations, paintings, and other things. I briefly did tattoos.

You can check my portfolio out at

and my blog at

I also run the Bay Are Vintage Riders Forum

New to the board not to the bike. I just finished my cb750 chop and have a drag frame waiting for my Hondamatic donor as soon as I have the room to do it. Got two other mothballed projects one Santee cb750 and a Kawasaki H1 that is in need of restoration after sitting since 1975.

Hey all. new here from socal. live in encino, work in venice. Ride a 09 FXD as a daily driver. Its insane that with a shitty commute like the 405, I still get to work every morning with a big smile on my face.

Got into bikes about 4 years ago when my wife got pregnant. Probably the opposite of alot, " honey, I'm pregnant. Time to sell the bikes", for me it was " honey I'm pregnant, we should get you a motorcycle". She's rad.

Got no projects going, too much debt at the moment....

Got tons of ideas though, so as soon as my debt is paid off, watch out :)

That is so rad. I had a 1950 DeSoto, but it was a 4 door, I got it off the original owner, he had two, one daily driver and one he drove maybe 4 times a year, in perfect condition. A little while after I bought it I sold it back to him because he basically begged me hah

Hey all...new here. Recently picked up my first bike, a '69 Triumph tr6r chop. Plan to keep some of the "back in the day" bits (paughco tank, etc.), but looking to change or shorten the (9" over) fork, and a full tear-down over the winter...will post pics as it progresses...

Hello all. My name is Andrew (or Rooster), I'm 32 years old, and I live in Springfield, MO. I do custom metal fab working for the man during the day and build bikes, hot rods, bicycles, or anything with wheels by night. Hopefully soon I will be able to tell the man to shove it and we will have our shop going full time. I ride a chopped up 1980 Ironhead and a '63 Chevrolet C10 hot rod bike hauler. I also do some longboarding here and there. So yeah that pretty much sums it up and I'm off to cruise the site because it looks like good times.
