Hey everybody my name's TJ. I'm the owner/operator of Good as Gold - metal and design. I've been a metal fabricator about 15 years and hope to be for the rest of me days! I'm just getting things goin on the business front but I'm diggin chop cult and the people associated with it. So I'll keep posting things and projects I like and hope you like em too. I've got two project bikes - 1970 Honda cl 450 and a 1986 1100 Sportster and I hope to keep a build thread on those as they progress. But like the old saying, I'm a cobbler with holes in his shoes, so I'll try my best to keep those projects going. Take er' easy everybody.

Time to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I live in Southern Minnesota. I've owned three sportsters, a 47 EL, and a 50 Pan FL chopped,. I bought a 1978 Electraglide new in 78 and rode it for over 20 years. I also bought a wrecked 98 Roadglide that I rebuilt and put 40,000 miles on.

Those bikes are all gone. I got away from the HD nameplate for a while and rode Beemers and dual sport bikes (which I still have).
I always said if I owned another Harley, it would be one that made no sense at all. So last year I bought a non running 1976 Ironhead from a local. I got it running long enough for me to realize that it needed a lot of help. I pulled the engine and contacted another member on this site by the handle of "Ferg". He is in the process of making the lower end and transmission of the Sportster whole again and has posted many pics of his progress on this site. The top end has a fresh 010 bore job with Keith Black pistons and a fresh valve job. In the mean time I am getting the chassis and sheet metal reworked for a simple retro style bike.
Oh, and this last March I made the mistake of visiting the local HD dealer and ended up with a new holdover 2012 Dyna Superglide.
This is a great site to pass the time away on during the cold Minnesota nights.....

Hi, I have been looking around here for some hard tail ideas over the past couple of months..so I thought I would join in instead of lurk.

I have decades of experience with bikes... have owned dozens and dozens have love to restore and mildly customize.
I'm in Northern Illinois .. so not much riding this time of year .. and my garage is detached, un-insulated with no heat.. so that will be a future expensive project if I ever want to hobby around with my bikes year round ..now that I'm retired.

I'm between a restoration I'm finishing up and plans for a hard tail bobber (out of cash right now for both) ... so I have been doing a comedy "spoof video series" on youtube .. it's a parody mocking garage caf racer builders

I'm new to Chop Cult. I'm first time builder who is actively collecting parts. I would like to hear opinions on frames ( Paughco, Santee, etc...) Also any feed back on DNA Springer front ends.

Hi I'm new here. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm in the northern part of Maine in a little town called Houlton. Bought my first harley 3 years ago, 79 ironhead. I have a picture of it. Rode a 750 honda magna a few years before this and I someday want to get either a shovel or a pan.

Just wanted to say hey from out here in the sticks. Originally from STL, been livin' in this God forsaken shit hole for the last 25 or so years.

Just got back in the saddle about three years ago. Bad knees keeps me off two wheels, but I have a blast on this... Bought it as a rollin' wreck, been resurrectin' it ever since. One of those things that'll never be finished. Constantly changin' shit, but that's half the fun, right?

I've been a long time lurker and fan of this site, and finally got around to starting an account a while ago. I don't think I ever posted anything though. Mostly because I didn't have anything to contribute. I probably know some of the folks here from the JJ forum from years ago (and by years I mean like when Dragon was still alive). I haven't been so active in the custom bike scene since moving to VA six years ago. I finally got another bike a couple years ago, and got back into riding. The 4 years I went without a bike were probably the longest 4 years of my life. I sold everything off when I thought I was moving to Italy for work. My orders got cancelled, I bought a house, had a daughter, and was generally too broke and busy to get one. I finally made it happen, and the rest is history.

So I'm at a point in my life where I'm ready to start building again. I've got an opportunity to pick up a SPS for a really good price. It's got a great drive train and is mostly set up the way I would build one, but there's enough bolt on stuff to swap out and things to fabricate for myself that I'd still feel like it was my own once I got finished with it. Then again, for the same price there's a lot of options out there. So I haven't decided yet. I just know I want to finally get a chopper out on the road.

I've built a few bikes, but never saw any of them all the way through. I normally would sell them and get another project before they were finished. Mostly because I was ignorant and lazy! I love to mock up, fabricate, and take pictures. That's usually when someone would make an offer I couldn't refuse. Since I've always had bikes to ride I didn't mind. Looking back though, I really wish I could have experienced some time in the wind on those builds. I started out with a paughco rigid project that never got passed a roller, a 1960 pre-unit chopper, and a 1966 BSA.

Anyway, that's my story. I should be pretty active soon posting photos of whatever it is I get into. I also have a few bike pics from shows a few years back that I'll post.

Hey folks!
Name is Josh. Sitting in Colorado about 20 miles south of Denver.
I frequent quite a handful of forums all specific to what I'm working on at the moment and caught wind of this place. I trolled around for a few days and figured it looked like a good place to join.
I built my first "chopper" a few years ago, and once completed, I caught the bug to keep hacking shit up.
First was a 1980 GS1000. A friend of a deprived had it in his garage collecting dust for 9 years, so I got it for free.
http://i526.photobucket.com/albums/cc349/jmlcolorado/IMG_0453.jpg

http://i526.photobucket.com/albums/cc349/jmlcolorado/IMG_0456.jpg
After a couple hours of tinkering, I got it to fire up. Guy I got it from about shit himself.
Then it turned into this

http://i526.photobucket.com/albums/cc349/jmlcolorado/CIMG0702.jpg

http://i526.photobucket.com/albums/cc349/jmlcolorado/CIMG0700.jpg

If there's enough interest in it, I'll do a build thread since I documented all the changes.

Also tossed together a bike for a buddy. This one has stalled over the past couple years as he is going through some life changes (got married and shit). I think I've got him talked into selling it to me so I can finish it. It's another 80 gs1000.

Hey guys. I'm Graeme, 26, from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've been into bikes since my early teens but I've only recently discovered how fucking awesome cruisers and choppers are. I've got a '99 KLR650 and my baby, a bright yellow 2000 Sportster 883. Some friends and I have a couple other projects on the go (Honda 250 Custom Bob & an '05 Fatboy), and I've been using CC as a resource for quite some time now. I figured it was about time I made myself an account and got into the community a bit more.
I'm in the process of doing the 1200 conversion to my sporty, and I'm going to be blacking her out and cleaning her up a bit over the winter. Still riding every day at this point though. Looking forward to talking shop with yas!

My 03 chopper and my HD Ultra Classic Custom. HD was fun. 1996 Shriner bike bought in Florida owner said EVO motor was blown 40k miles on the bike bought it for $3k. Got the bike home and pulled the motor. Took motor apart and had a suprise. Motor was not blown. Torrington cam bearing gone. That caused the cam to drop causing the push rods to drop. I went ahead and pulled the jugs split the case and pulled the crank. Went back with S&S crank. HD adjustable push rods. Sent my heads to :killerjob: the King Kendal Johnson where he left the small valves for more torque, decked the heads 0.10 did a port and polish job. Supplied me with new cam and piston sets. Put a Power Commander on and a Thunder header 2 into 1, then new and bigger injectors. Mounted the motor and went for a test ride. Then to Dyno. Kendal was correct. He said 95-100hp and I Dynoed 98hp. Not bad for a 88" motor! Then took the body off and went to the painter Jay Leapord!

Just joined up. I'll be looking to score a 90's sportster in the spring once the snow thaws here to tear around on and eventually chop. I was looking at classifieds a couple nights ago and my 7 yr old son looked over my shoulder and recommended I get "one of those motorcycles with the wheel way out front, those look tough". It was a proud moment.
I make custom bicycle frames and do general fab stuff up here in the frozen north.

I now own a much better 93 springer not so pretty as the first one but much more fun to ride than to wrench. Dont get me wrong I love to wrench but I dont like to wrench and never be able to ride....I'm a simple guy that drinks beer and hangs with friends fell in love with motorcycles late in life as I'm 39. love the chopper shows been to the last couple Born Free and a few small get togethers and cant wait for the shows in 2014 to start. Just like say Hello everyone on here. I am pretty much been into cars(Nova, Mustangs basic drag car shit)...Got out cars 2 years ago due just not having J>O>B. Got laid off company went out business. Work there 15 years......Now have new job of 11 months 23 days and counting. Work Truevalue Hardware store now 2nd best job ever had.......Long story short met girl July 2012 got married April 2013, she left September 2013. So single guy now what you do............Build a bike. I had 1976 sporty last year sold it due not having $$$$. Picked up 1975 Sporty about 3 weeks ago on the cheap$1200.00 bucks runs about half....
Plan on doing a bobber, chopper whatever you call it now days. Like do a weldon hardtail, DNA springer 2 under front, 21 inch front wheel, 16 inch rear wheel(with disc brake), nothing fancy just clean bike. Brass is my theme, this bike is been my head for 4 years or so was going to do it to 76' but ........but now i am single dude no bills(thanks Chapter 7)..lol....I pay $325 month for rent includes everything...but food....got 55,00 cell phone bill.....I live 4 blocks from work so no car is needed.....live 7 blocks from walmart, lowes, home depot, kmart, the mall etc.....LIFE Is GOOD. i get stuff at work at cost.........bolt, nuts tools whatever, plus we pretty good selection of other stuff. Been business for 125 years its oldest company still running in my town. Just seems to be need figure out what to do got 70 psi in front cylinder, and 135 in the rear so engine rebuild is 1st thing on the books. Trans shifts good, Has S&S carb on it thinking about doing the CV carb swap thing. Brass is most thing want to do, brass risers, air cleaner, rocker shaft nuts, rocker hold downs, brass oil lines, push rod covers, brass tail light, brass grips. Don't want to much brass just enough to bring it out but not like sore thumb.
Color of choice BLACK....tank design ....mmmm still looking at 4.5 gallon.....with brass gas caps of coarse. Think going be one those build as you go bikes I know what i want in my head.
I got budget of 6000.00 to play with. Thats what got saved up so far.......not bragging on that i been eating alot PB AND J sammys. Eat out once a week......save all my change.
Plus the kicker I am 40 years old starter college 2 semesters ago for IT in computers, been into that for 20 years just the degrees to say i know the shit,........dont know all tech names for the stuff but fix any PC problem just takes me little longer.....i go long way around as one my professors as said........................But in time like find nice job get into Computer stufff make about 60,000 a year.......
Plus on top all this i have new girlfriend that lives 130 miles away that i care and for very much......but only thing hurts me being with her she is pergo with another mans baby fucker left her after she told him she was going of his child...been with her 2 months now she want me move to her place but no way i can do that not having good job now.....try deal with that lol...................................anyway thanks reading the boring stuff i put here....

Hey CC, friends call me Scott and I am currently in San Diego. I have been in the Military for 8 years and am finally getting into chopping my 08 1200n while on active duty. This has been something I have always wanted to get into but the military has not been a compassionate mistress. But now I have an opportunity. I am starting my project out now with stripping her down to frame. I have been very impressed by this community and have already bought an S&S cleaner kit from classifieds. Hope to work with you all in the future...RS

Yo,

My name is Cory. I just got my first vintage chopper this past summer. '73 CB750 SOHC, on a plunger frame with some nice vintage parts. (Z bars, drag pipes, twisted sissy bar, sporty tank..)

I run a tiny 1 car garage for myself and my friends. In turn they help me with the rent, so it's pretty sweet that way. The garage consists of my '73 CB750 Chopper, a friends 2012 Royal Enfield 500 & his wife's Honda Rebel 250 bobber, another friends 84 Virago 750 (as much as think virago's are lame, the thing rips, and it's his first bike and he got it running with no previous mechanical knowledge. Proud of my buddy Kayvon!), and my roommate Ryan, has an '81 Honda XL250. He also has no previous mechanical knowledge, and he received the bike in shoe boxes. He got it running within the first few days. Rad, I know...

I also have a 1979 Honda CB750K Cafe Racer project, that is currently entered in the Greasy Dozen 2014 contest for build support. I am very excited to be a part of the contest and have the opportunity to work under support from companies I have been following since I was a child. It will be my first bike build, but I am putting my heart and soul into the bike, and it is going to be just the first of many builds to come.

Check my profile out and add me to your friends list! I don't know how it works around here quite yet, so add me, say hello, give me some tips and follow me on instagram - @corycrush

Keep the shiny side up! - Cory, Great North Garage

Greetings men,
This seems like a great site with lots of knowledgeable and creative people. I do most of the wrenching on my bikes but am always learning something new. I hope to be able to contribute from time to time but honestly lots of people on this forum have forgotten more than I will ever know,so most of the time I will be asking questions rather than answering any . Thanks for allowing me to join.

Hey everybody, I'm Mickey! I actually joined a while back, but I'm an asshole and forgot my login info so I had to make a new one. Anyway, I'm from Hot Springs, Arkansas. I work in retail for a living, do vocals for a hardcore band, and am part of a great group of friends in a touring burlesque troupe called the Foul Play Cabaret. I stick running drills into my face, lay on a bed of nails, blah blah blah...

Anyway, on to the two-wheeled stuff... I've been around muscle cars and bikes since I was a kiddo and rode sportbikes for about 8 years. I currently have an '81 Honda CB650 that I'm hoping to start building soon. I look forward to learning a lot more from this site and meet some cool people. Later!

I am a long time lurker so its my time to post my intro. I am just getting back into bikes after a 5-7 year vacation. Along with a buddy, we are starting a small shop (Deadbeat Cycles) here in West Michigan. I can't believe what people are asking for Harley parts so I am using tips here to build my own shit. I think this is the best site for building and chopping real bikes, not wannabe biker bikes. Good tips- thanks guys!!!!!!!

Hey guys, my name is Matt, I'm from basically the dead center of this Arctic Wasteland called Michigan. Some of you that frequent the Jockey Journal probably know my dad, RacePres. My folks own and operate the first, longest running, and (as of this time last year) the only national racing association for all American motorcycles called the AMRA. We go all over the country(mainly east and midwest) putting on All Harley Drags.

Anyways, I've been in to Harleys my whole life, dad took me on my first ride at ~3-4 months old, and I practically grew up at the drag strip. I have a 1977 Sporty that he helped me redo between my junior and senior year of high school (currently tore down cuz I wrecked it last summer) and while I decide what to do with it I'm riding my older brothers '75 sporty stocker.

I've been hangin around CC for a while now, mainly lurking and watching builds progress and getting inspiration for my sportster and the couple builds we have going on right now.

My Sportster pre-crash:

Hey there 33'rs...

35yr old north Jersey native who's new here but not new to bikes, though I'm returning from a 6 or 7yr hiatus.

Used to post on some other forums back in the early/mid-00's but I heard this is where all the cool kids hang these days. Joined a few months back when the bike bug bit me again and I started picking up some things in the classifieds here.

I've been busy playing with old Cadillacs for 7yrs and just sold my beloved '63 (below) a few months back to free the space in my one car garage to build me a new scooter. Picked up a '78 Shovel and next stop, build thread... ;)

Ironically, I sold a Triumph chop in '06(?) over on the jockey journal to the user who started this thread. Small world.

Been following CC for some time now, new as a member. Panhead choppers is my bike of choice, my fathers too. although building Triumphs, BSA, Nortons also. Been on a Pan since 1970. Choppers seem to light my fire, have had several. Did a lot of racing over the years, moto, crosscountry, harescrambles, flattrack, hillclimbs. Age is starting to slow me down, not winning as much, not as much fun. Time to build choppers again.. Go by the name of Turk. Currently building a 64 bsa rigid, Harley springer. also on the table is a 58 triumph tiger cub, rigid custom, that I am building for one of my grandsons for his first street bike to ride back n forth to highschool. When the next grandson comes of age, a 71 650 triumph rigid chopper will will go to the older, and the cub will get handed down.. etc. etc. I Have 5 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, each will get a crack at our lifestyle. Raised them all at a racetrack, we do it all. My daughters, son, grandkids all ride , MANDATORY. I firmly believe that racing competitively hones your skills, that it may save your life out there on the street! I have a Tiger Cub question for THE GURU that they call "Torch". If your out there, please contact me.
Thanks, Turk

Hey Guys, new to the chop scene, I've ridden crotch rockets in the past but am wanting to change things up.

I just picked up a 97 V Star 650 custom and will be modding it as soon as the weather permits. Currently it is -40 degrees Celsius!! (From Manitoba Canada). The bike is mint, no rust, and 100% stock.

Howdy everyone,

I see I'm not the only one who's been lurking for a while. Guess it's about time I joined up.

Name's Ben, I'm 23 and I'm from the desert wastes of Southern California, near Palm Springs. I love beer and bikes (motorized or not). I'm not really new to motorcycles, but I am new to building/chopping/restoring. Never been much of a mechanic, but damn it I'm trying haha. I'm currently working on a '74 CB360, and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning as much as I can!

The name's Skip. Been around bikes all my life and I'm finally done riding friends' bikes and looking to get my own. I found a bike I like but the owner has this little diddy posted in his ad.

"I bought this bike 12/09 without a title. I do have a signed Bill of Sale, a signed "Application For Duplicate of Paperless Title/Release of Ownership or Interest" DMV form, from the original owner.
Reg. expired 08/12. The VIN# matches the registration, bill of sale and application. I have had no problem in the past, just paying the fee's and riding it."

What exactly does that mean? I'm in California and I know what a bitch the DMV can be about hot rods & old kustoms so I'm assuming it's the same hassle with bikes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What's up CC? I have been lurking for a bit and just officially signed up. I am riding out of Oakland CA, but am in the process of moving into a new place. The new joint has a large garage space so I am looking to get my teeth into a serious project bike. My daily rider that I also continually work on is an 81' Yamaha xj650.

I am always up for meeting other people to ride with, drink beers and work on bikes.

Riding a '78 FX rigid shovel out in the wastelands of Wyoming. Wife complains it's gotten too tough on her, so something with suspension is mandated. So even though I've passed the half-century mark, I still consider myself too young for a bagger, and I have the need for speed, maneuverablity, and the occasional ass-showing. Enter the new build project; an FXR on an '82 OEM frame with powerplant and transmission from a '90 FLHTC. Have almost every piece, but still shopping for a 61044-82B fuel tank that isn't made out of platinum or priced as though it is. If you know of one, drop me a line.

So this is the introduction process? We'll lets start by saying hello to you all on this forum. Names David, I've been riding motorcycles before I knew how to ride a bicycle and never stopped. I have always worked on my bikes, cars and trucks ( to broke to take them to shops ) but never built one from the ground up. I got out of the army a couple years ago now and moved from Louisiana to Arizona. I got a house and garage and started building my tool collection back up to build my first bike from the ground up. It took about 6 months for the initial build, now just little things that pop up as I ride it more and more. I figure everything settling in. It was a lot of fun but sad to see the project end. Here's a pic.46691

Ryan from Maine here! Race dirt bikes and run a body shop. Obsessed with building. Only street bike I have built as of now is a 1973 CB 750 made into a Cafe. Working on a bobber right now out of a 78 GS 550. Building the frame from rear motor mount back.. Also have a 69 Chevy pick up Im getting going on. Alway have too many projects, racing already takes up too much time. So as you can imagine Im single as a MOFO! Just love building in general. Even shit around the house, build it dont buy it. Hey Sean! So far Denver's been great. First time I've seen snow in 2 years. I did get a kick in the nuts with loosing the job I moved here for 2 weeks in. So life's been a bit of a bitch $ wise. We'll be fine and get back to normal soon. Can't wait to get out in the mountains on the bikes. We did once already and lost the clutch and then the rear brake went soft on the way back down. Didn't bother me but it sure did my fiance. That pic was taken at one of our shows back n Columbus, Ohio a few years back. Got higher bars and a coffin tank on it now. Someday I'll get around to giving it a real paint job.

From LI NY....took a few years off from riding....have owned a Shovel, 2 Ironheads, an Evo Softail, an Evo FXR and now a Twin Cam Dyna.

Always been a HD guy (not the HOG type guy) but now I want to get into some jap styled metric bikes. I love the stuff that they call "brat style". I know "brat style" a shop.....but if you google brat style..well you know the rest.

See you around.

New to site thought I'd introduce myself. First ride on 2 wheels was my old mans shovel, picked up a original 75 cb750 years back for my first bike, 2 years ago finally got my own 74 FLH 93" S&S kit, carb, and cam, Andrews geared 4 speed and still points.

My name is Brian.

I finally signed up after creeping around the forums as a guest for a couple years.

My first project was a 1975 XLH electric only with a bolt on hardtail. As much as I liked the bike I was too big for it (see my avatar) . Anywho I did some craigslist trading and now I finally have my dream project a matching numbers shovelhead (1976 Fxe). I want to get an aftermarket rigid frame and roll with it this year, then drop seat it next winter. That's my ultimate goal : a ratty drop seat shovelhead.

I am just buying little things for now. But I need a rigid frame and I'm not in a hurry to chop the factory frame.

I would like to learn to weld, so if you are local and weld let me know .

Thanks.

A change of address, a new internet provider and a very dodgy memory mean't I had trouble logging on. So a name change and here I am again. A bottle of red had absolutely nothin' to do with it.

i know a bit about jappas, something about Triumphs and a fair bit to learn about Harleys.

i'll kick in where i can and learn what i can.
Cheers

A buddy clued me in to take a look here, so I joined up....
Old timer on Maui, Hawaii....
Started with a 650 BSA in '63,
then a '62 FL police bike in '68, chopped it, still have it,
then a '59 FL police bike in ''69, basket case, bought it for parts,
but now decided to put it together, lot of parts missing.
Got a '91 FXDB "Sturgis" in '92, was wrecked, rebuilt it, still have it.
Got a '10 FXDB "Street Bob" in '12, my daily ride right now.
Doin' a project bike for a buddy, an 88" STD/5 speed in an old Paughco frame.
Finally retired from working for somebody else, so now I just work for me.
And only on fun stuff....:cheersmate:

Hey everyone! I am Joe from Ohio. I am a call center management professional who left their career to work on motorcycles. Not nearly the same money but I am much happier. I am in the process of building my first HD. Previous to this one, I have had a thing for 70's Hondas. I have built 3 750's, two bobbers and a Cafe, and a 650 Cafe. I usually find myself breaking even on them when it's time to find a new project. This past fall I came across a '00 sportster 883 I couldn't pass up. Problem was there was no way I was going to ride a purple sportster.

I have some pictures in my album but it went off to powder coat yesterday. Should have it back for finally assembly early next week. I do my own paint, metal fab, pretty much everything but welding. I know the basics of welding but don't have enough experience at it to trust my own frame, especially when I have access to phenomenal welder.

I am generally pretty quiet on forums unless I have something specific to say.

You can make it cooler than the Chinese kids can.. ha!

Good site you have here. I'll join in the fun! :cheersmate:

Great to find this site. My name is Brian and I am out of Charleston, SC, Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector by trade. I finialy, after a long time coming, started my first build. A soon (or not so soon) to be a short chop 82 Ironhead sitting in a Paughco frame, dropped 2, 40 rake. It's all a big pile of parts right now as I picked up a pretty large mess of mixed up stuff, but I did get a complete engine, minus a few small things. I am just now strating to clean it all and trying to figure out what works and what does not.

Hi All

I'm Arthur from upstate NY. Have had Triumphs for many years, took a long break starting in '95. Well, bought a 2000 Sportster and I'm back. The electric start is pretty cool to have. Not many modifications in my future, I am just really happy to go for a ride. I do appreciate the craftsmanship most of the members show here. Lots of hours go into making a living. Most of my free time goes into shooting, but I wanted to get back into something that brought me a lot of good time previously.

Best,

Hey Cats,

This is my first post/Introduction post. Seems like I’m in the right place.

I bought a ’72 Triumph Bonneville back in the late 80s, when I was a teenager. It was my first bike, had no experience with them at all. As kids, my siblings and I rode the shit out of the family snowmobiles, but that’s not a good comparison, turns out.

I have to admit, I was kind of an idiot with my first Triumph. It did get me back and forth to work for quite a while, and I had a lot of fun on it, but eventually I got stupid and dumped it a couple of times. Then I had some mechanical problems that were beyond me.

Long story shorter, I had to store it at one point, and soon after that it got stolen. I won’t go into that story here.

Flash forward: I’ll be 45 this year, my daughter is almost done at university, life was $ettling down in some ways, several of my buddies ride, and I figured it was about time for me to get another bike.

I recently bought a ‘66 Bonneville from a friend. The snow here was pretty intense this year, and I’m still snowed in until it clears. I’ll go into more detail about the bike another time, another thread.

I plan to watch the shit out of the English 101/102 videos, buy myself some more tools and take some advice from friends. Bike doesn’t need much work at this point, but I have some plans (and some learning to do).

So yeah… I’m pretty much a Newbie at 45 years old, a (hopefully) smarter man, with plans and a dream. Let’s see how that works out.

What up folks! name's Mac, and i live in Germany. I don't have a proper chop yet but i ride a 2012 blackline...it's got a jockey shift if that counts for anything. lol I wanted to start with a platform that was newer and give it a proper chop job....in retrospect this may not have been my best life decision, but i love my bike anyway.

At any rate, i finally joined the site after stalkin it for about a year. TONS of good info for future projects and based on the junk pile, the crowd seemed more my speed.

Welcome Mac!

Hey Cats,

This is my first post/Introduction post. Seems like Im in the right place.

I bought a 72 Triumph Bonneville back in the late 80s, when I was a teenager. It was my first bike, had no experience with them at all. As kids, my siblings and I rode the shit out of the family snowmobiles, but thats not a good comparison, turns out.

I wont go into that story here.

Flash forward: Ill be 45 this year, my daughter is almost done at university, life was $ettling down in some ways, several of my buddies ride, and I figured it was about time for me to get another bike.

I recently bought a 66 Bonneville from a friend. The snow here was pretty intense this year, and Im still snowed in until it clears. Ill go into more detail about the bike another time, another thread.

I plan to watch the shit out of the English 101/102 videos, buy myself some more tools and take some advice from friends. Bike doesnt need much work at this point, but I have some plans (and some learning to do).

So yeah Im pretty much a Newbie at 45 years old, a (hopefully) smarter man, with plans and a dream. Lets see how that works out.

Hi Dietrich66! Welcome to CC.

Best,

Welcome Arthur!

Also if anyone has a six speed that will fit in an 87 heritage I had put a reverse in and got two years before it got chewed up. Might as well look for a six speed and forget reverse ( didn't use it much). Thanks happy trails

Been in the Navy for the past 5 years, lookin to do 20. When my bike runs, I love to ride if I'm not fishin. Not much too me, very straight forward. I look forward to helping out where I can whilst continually absorbing knowledge. If you have questions, ask, I'm not shy.

Hey, didn't find this until I was searching on "Missouri" (since my first post actually wound up in the Brolodex, and swiftly died an ignominious death). Nick, in south-central Missouri, back in the rocky foothills south of I-60. I'm working on three right now: a 1982 KZ750M1, aka "CSR750", which will become a long, low, highway chop; a 1972 CB350k, destined to be cafe'd as all small Hondas are (I'm so dam cliche); and soon to be rescued, my first love, my '76 CB550k which arrived to me with long forks and trinkets and mostly bone stock, which I bobbed.

I say 'soon to be rescued' because I gave it to my son, who decided he didn't like riding as much as he thought he would. He promptly parked it in his GF's garage, then later broke up with said GF. Fortunately, she's still on speaking terms with us, and is willing to let my OM come out and get it. I should see it sometime this summer when they come to visit from IL.

Thanks for a great site, been a longtime lurker and decided to ante up and get my arse in here!

Hi all. I am new to Chopcult. I have had some pretty cool old Harleys over the years. I have always loved rigid Harleys and the looks of the Softail Evos. My current ride is a 1995 Heritage that I had a foot clutch and tank shift set up on for a few years. (Had trouble with the foot clutch so it is off until I get it fixed.) Looking to find a ratty Heritage to slam, kickstart, foot clutch, tank shift and cut the rear fender strut mounts off so I can put a hinged, rigid rear fender on it. I have been checking out the project bikes on the site and there are some cool looking rides being built by some very talented people. Thanks for having me.

Hi fellas,

A quick hello.

I'm Nick from the UK, currently building a 77 XLCH into a Paughco hardtail Frame. Started a few years ago but made lots of progress over the last winter and have the electrics all fitted and working. Next job is to clean and fit the engine - have run into a cracked motor mount and some questions over the alignment of the front engine mounts on the frame but sure I can get through those.

I like the site, am also on XLForum.net and recognise a few of the monickers from there.

See you in cyberspace, old bean..

Hello all
finally taking the time out to say hi. Been a loooong time observer of this forum, first time intro. Never had a need to asks questions as checking in on a daily basis, using search function and some good ole fashioned reading and research here have always answered my questions over the last year. not that hard a thing to do newbers!!. anyhoo. i decided to take the time for a proper intro and possibly contribute to this forum. Started riding last summer. Picked up and rockin a 97 VT1100c with 20k mi on her. Been learning a ton about it here, and currently its in the garage being chopped up for this years riding season. yes it does exist! (pics will be up this evening.....hopefully). Im 36 yrs old, married to my high school sweetheart almost 16 yrs. now, father of 4 awesome kids, employed at a well known mortgage company, and a patched member of a local MC in B-Lo NY. Thank you all for the wisdom thats passed down here on a daily basis. its been great reading and educational. Now stop reading this already, you've wasted enough time as it is.

Im not new to wrenching tho. Been fucking around with Hotrods and old muscle cars for the past decade. I really dig the fab work and wrench time with bikes. Theres nothing I love more than riding or spending time trying to fix / make stuff in my garage. I have learned a ton with the aid of this site so I figured it was time to stop trolling and say hello.

I have a GS850, a stock 82 Virago, another 82 Virago that is a very strange custom, and an XS650 homebuilt trike that is a bit different as well. The GS is my main ride because it's bigger, smoother, and has a great seat, along with a good Windjammer. My old bones like that stuff. I previously owned an 1100EZ, which you never get over.

Just got myself my first proper sportster an 883r (2006) loving it so far, sorted a few modifications out already but I'll make a thread in the American section.
But about myself, I'm from bedford (England) had bikes from 16 when I passed my test to move onto bigger things I was 17 so had a cbr600f. I've had lots of bikes and none have stayed standard!

Hello everyone,
My name's Ben and I just joined yesterday to help bring awareness to EMD (http://www.estmd.com). We're a small manufacturer with a penchant for the vintage American style of early H-Ds and Indians.
I look forward to checking out all the cool home-grown projects and getting to know creative riders and wrenches.

Looking forward to see what you have in mind with this platform. They're fun bikes to ride; a nice compliment to the Diavel you have in the shop...

What's up
I'm Ryan and I'm in louisville ky. The first bike I rode was a 00 r6. My roommate had a couple of bikes, a cbr blackbird and an 00 r6. He was kind enough to let myself and a few others learn to ride on the r6. That was about ten years ago. We rode the hell out of that thing for about a year and then he had to get rid of it. A few months ago I purchased my first bike, which is an07 nightster. I'm coming to this site to get advice and also inspiration. Thanks in advance and hopefully I will be able to pass on the advice to others in the future.

Hi all, longtime fan/follower of CC finally posting. Been riding since age 13, and my first street bike was an '83 XS650 Heritage Special that I bought in 1998. Did a few minor mods; drag bars,
relocated speedo, cat's-eye tailight, shitty flame job on the tank (hey, I was 20 and had no clue what I was doing) and rode it until 2003 when I bought my Softail. But I knew it would make a
great chopper one day, so I held on to it. And now, after a long wait, the time has come to get out the tools and start cutting and grinding! I just rebuilt the carbs with some kits from Mike's XS
and got it running... well, enough to know that it still runs. I'll post a few pics and see if I can start a build thread (yes, ANOTHER XS650 thread). This is a great site and has already been very
informative and inspirational. Glad to be here, folks.

hey dudes,

been lurking and reading for a little while, getting myself ready to get my first bike, been messing with cars for 10+ years, need a bit of a change, keeping it low budget and looking at something like a honda vlx400
i'm from australia and work at an aluminium foundry specializing in automotive castings, mainly things geared towards drag racing/speedway but recently have been doing a heap of vintage british motorcycle things like heads etc...

anyway good to be here!

Hey everybody!

My name is Daniel, and i'm from Brazil. I've bought a 2001 Honda Shadow VLX recently (less than 6 months) and i'm planning on doing some mods (old school FTW), as expected.

I'm sure i'll find some good stuff here, and i hope that i can contribute too.

Hey I'm Travis from Wilmington, nc. I just picked up a 2000 sportster 1200. I'm in the process of learning all the ins and outs. Basically trying to teach myself how to be a grease monkey. So any tips and pointers are well appreciated. Pm me if you are near my area and we can go for a ride and grab a brew.
