Hey everybody,
New guy here living in Virginia Beach, VA. Originally from Pittsburgh though, so always from Pittsburgh! I'm an aircraft mechanic by night and dad by day.
I think I'm 34 yrs. old. I used to remember how old I was before my daughter was born. She's 2 1/2 and makes the world a blur to everyone around her! The next one is supposed to be born in about two weeks.....hope I can remember my name after that!!! We're not here to talk about our kids though.
My bike is a '72 TR6C that I built from the front half of the frame, about 3/4 of the engine, and two milk crates full of bits and pieces.Did everything myself except turn down the crank journals and took the frame to a certified welder for the hardtail install. I'm a good welder, but wouldn't bet my life on it! Here's a pic:

I've since changed the bars to a little higher ones so I could use mirrors. Drivers are bad here.

By the way, some of you may recognize me from the Jockey Journal. Been a member there since around '07. Staying there too, but finally got around to a visit here! Should have checked it out much earlier I guess!

09-24-2012, 10:44 PM
I ride out if Chi-town(west suburbs)
hardtail XL bobber
finally made a profile so thats about it.

Anybody going to Iron Invasion in Woodstock IL october 6 ?

09-25-2012, 4:10 AM
Mike from Upstate NY. I'm more of a car guy but been riding pretty much since I got my license 15 years ago. Current project is a Suzuki Savage.

09-25-2012, 5:17 PM
I just joined CC the other day.... I'm building a Suzuki Savage in a custom hard tail frame... I'm pretty new to bikes but you gotta start somewhere. I'm also a photographer nada part owner in a taco joint. Hit me up if you are in the South Bay. I'll post pics later

09-26-2012, 1:28 AM
Name is Leon, I live in Minnesota now, born raised n Florida.
Have 4 kids, 3 are under 3. And 2 English bulldog.
I've been riding since I got a license.raised on the back of Harleys since I ate dirt as a kid.
I'm a artist, and I hate working.if it's work to me I move on to other things.
I did tattoos for 4 years, till it became a job.I have many art styles that I have mastered for the most part.
I do occasionally offer my art for sale , as long as I consider it art.once it's work, I quit.
There is about nothing I can't do.I love a challenge.
I ride a 09 iron, that I haven't decided if I'm gonna chop light or heavy.or at all.Im pretty content.
But I will build something else for sure.
Everybody around here that I have sold, traded my custom parts or installed stuff on, has suggested chopcult as a place where people would appreciate things I have to offer.
So far I have really enjoyed browsing the site, picked up a couple cool pieces, and sold a few things.
I'm really old traditional biker type.and I'm not really nice to unapreciative yuppie , money rules type people.

If you actually read this, that's cool.I can ramble, I'm with 3 under 3 kids all day long.lol

Hey All,

New to the forums, really intrigued by the community / classifieds. 22 year old Toronto Native currently in Graduate School for Architecture and have recently developed a love of motorcycles. Working on a 1976 KZ400 cafe racer for myself and my most recent purchase, a hardtailed 1972 Suzuki Ts250 (dirtbike lol) for my girlfriend. Was wondering if someone could give me a headsup as to how the classifieds work? Do i need a certain post count? I can't find a "comment" button or the ability to private message the sellers...

Good morning everyone!
New to the forum, the name is Chris I live just north of Panama City. I'm an air force and army vet and I'm currently going to school for ministry. Use to work at the military prison in leavenworth and did some county and juvenile corrections when I got out, now I'm looking at Prison Ministries. Crazy.

Anywho I just picked up a '79 Ironhead and have been making it my own and I also have a 2010 Triumph Thruxton that is torn down and sitting in my office here in family housing at the campus waiting until I get more moneys (or a school refund check) to make her into a land speed racer.

New to the bike scene as a whole. My brother turned me on to this site. Been thinking about it for a couple years now and finally getting started. My project is a Buell motor, front end and rigid frame. Dual rear brake and the six pot front brakes, lots of go fast stuff but in a classic style. The vision is my head the only other thing to do is make it come to life.

In the military but been building Hondas for the past decade. Will be in Oklahoma sooner than later. I will be starting there. Thinks for all the help and info I know I am going to gain from this site.

What's up everyone! The name's Jeremy, I'm 35, & I don't know a damn think about bikes!!! I'm a welder/fabricator by trade(learned to weld when I was 14 w/ a torch & wire clothes hanger) & my "hobby life" has become fucking dismal & stale! I'M HERE TO LEARN AS MUCH AS I CAN :). Have I ridden cycles, yes....but enough to call myself a rider. Do I know how to work on bikes, no....just 2-stroke Honda RS125 & CR250 motors from my microsprint racing days and that's about it for cycle knowledge. I;m sick of playing w/ cars, I need a new vice in my life. Like I said, I'm here to learn & look forward to what this site & people have to offer :cheersmate:.

10-08-2012, 9:46 PM

I hail from Corpus Christi, TX. I ride/wrench on a "new to me" neglected 06 Sporty 883. She's slowly becoming my own creation, I've been lurking on this site for a while and have been getting a lot of ideas for my gradual build.

10-13-2012, 2:40 PM
Hello, I've been surfing this forum for the last couple months since I started collecting the parts for my chop project. There looks to be a wealth of information on here along with inspiration. I'm from northern Illinois. I'm a drag racer... turned bike nut I suppose. I race a 1952 Henry J gasser called "The Abomination." My current projects include a super charged 1930 model A coupe and, my Chop Cult friendly project, a 1966 Harley XLCH chopper.

Hey all.

Found this forum through the LadyHump blog, that I've been lurking for some time.
Read a few threads here and it seems like a rad place, lots of cool pics and plenty of information about rides and meets, etc.

Currently I don't have a bike, but my dad and I are putting one together.
Powered by an 80'' evo, stock rigid Kraftech frame, and wideglide front end.
Parts are still arriving but we'll have it done in no time.
Will post pictures as we go a long, going to be a lot of fun and something I've wanted to do for a long time.

10-15-2012, 12:06 PM

Once I got it back from the ex-wife I made it so she would never want to ride it again. Hey CC, I am Evan; I am completely new to the world of bikes. I have been on deployment since March(NAVY) and have been gaining interest in bikes. Never grew up around them other than one friend owning a Ninja and letting me ride it up the block for a few minutes. Another of my friends who grew up around bikes and who has done a few builds recommended this forum to learn about things , so I have been looking at threads. Interested in an early Sportster late 70s early 80s. What do you recommend for a first bike? Anything else that would be helpful to a complete new person would be great! Oh and I hail from Norfolk,VA area.

Hi everyone,
I've been lurking on here a while and thought I'd throw up an intro post.
I'm currently a deployed National Guard Soldier (this is my 3rd trip) from the upstate of SC. I don't currently have a chop but am looking around on the web for pieces to start one. I do have a '82 Suzuki GS1100 that I am doing a GSXR suspention upgrade to. Hope to have it resemble an "old school" superbike when finished.
I'm competitive by nature and have an ambishious goal for my first chopper build; I'm wanting to run in the 2013 Stampede. New rules for 2013 currently are 550 cc or less or a few select antique HD or Brit power plants. I'm currently searching fo an acceptible bike to start things with.

Thanks for welcoming me and in advance for any help or advice anyone gives me.

10-27-2012, 1:48 PM

Hello All,

I used to walk far and shoot straight now I'm just trying to find my way back to being a civilized productive member of society . Early Shovelheads

10-30-2012, 6:32 PM
Hey. I've been lurking this site for a while, and have been a member for a while also, but have never posted. So...

I'm Matt. I have a few bikes, and I love to wrench. I fabricate, fix, and finish whatever I can get my hands on. I also do old cars/trucks, but I'm certainly no stickler to vintage by any means. I even put an LS motor in my '69 Suburban. My '78 Shovel motor is built with Evo internals and a roller valvetrain. My race bike started life as an enduro, and now it embarasses sportbikes at speed.

Anyway, I'm always down for projects, whether they are mine or someone else's who needs a hand.

10-31-2012, 3:14 PM
FNG from Erie, PA here. Been lurking for a while and figured I'd say hello. Been getting some inspiration and getting ready to try my hand a painting my tank over the winter. 08 Nightster.

11-01-2012, 6:19 PM
I'm from the Pinehurst area and normally don't do the internet chopper thing. But this seems like a cool site so I'll give it a try.

11-02-2012, 9:12 AM
Alright guys, been lurking here for a few months, figured it was time to start posting.

The name's Trey, but I usually go by Mickey. I live in Hot Springs, Arkansas and travel around with a burlesque troupe called Foul Play Cabaret. I grew up in a hot rod family and have been turning wrenches since I could hold one. Started riding sportbikes when I was 14 and am about to start my first actual build with an '81 CB650. I'm looking forward to getting inspiration from the bikes and advice from the builders on here. Thanks guys!

11-02-2012, 2:18 PM
New guy to the biking world.names mike, bought myself an 83 virago, i'm in the middle of bobbing it but no hurry...it's winter here. i'm an apprentice machinist so i'm trying to make some one off parts so i feel like i actually did something here and i'd like to get away with being allowed to call it a "bobber", without catching shit from the hardcore guys. i've got a few ideas i'm trying to incorporate into it that i haven't seen anywhere, one being the seat. i'm also trying to engineer my own version of the internal throttle. i'll try to keep anyone interested in the loop, i've got a thread started about it already.

Hi there, been member for a while but never introduced myself.
I'm from the Netherlands and own a 2003 xl883r.
Had no experience in wrenching but I put a nhrs 1250 kit on it the last winter and drove the sh!t out of it after the break in. This winter I plan to work on the looks.
I'm thinking about cutting the fenders and get the paint off of the tank and fenders and put cleatcoat on them.
Nice forum !

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I am Smitty from the Mass. area who has been riding and wrenching since i was old enough to piss off my old man when I left his good hand tools outside and he would find them when he mowed the lawn.:p
I already have a question. Why cant I respond to the classified section? Do I need a certain amount of posts before I can respond to the classifieds?
I must say, it seems to be a well thought out layout for a web site that is easy to get around.
I look forward to chatting with you folks.

Hello all, been a long time member since 2005 at another board but just recently saw this one. I have a rigid evo chopper currently going through rebuild #4 and a shovel FLH built by Atomic. I love technical posts, don't participate in drama and most of all enjoy motorcycles to the point of obsession.

I'm in Davidson NC near Charlotte.

New guy here. Hipster wanna be with a scenester cafe racer, cause everybody loves that shit right now. I made my tins out of old Brylcreem and PBR cans, cause I'm fuckin' hardcore. Obviously I'll sell it when nobody thinks it's cool anymore.

My name is Bill, and I'm from Fair Hill, Maryland. I've got a 81 Suzuki GS450, Cafe style. It's my first build. Me and a buddy of mine put it together. It's still a work in progress, but it's also a rider. My cousin Johnny turned me on to the site a while back, but I'm just now getting around to registering.

My scoot (and my hot rod in the background):

11-14-2012, 6:10 PM
OK, I can't remember if I ever introduced myself here before. Memories get shorter as we age, as do other things, I've heard. My name is Jim and I'm from Sky Valley CA, 10 miles East of Desert Hot Springs on Dillon. I have a '10 Dyna that I have tweeked a little. I have ridden since I could reach everything and owned "on Paper" 37 Bikes of all types. I loved most of them and Am partial to Honda and Harley, but will ride a scooter if it's all I can get. I'm in recovery from a crash in Big Bear with a garbage truck, I Lost. I ride every week and in the past 32 years have gone more than A Million miles on bikes. I;m a Pot Head, Drink, Swear and Am a proud Atheist. I apologixe for little and expect nothing from anyone , but appreciate Everything. If we are fortunate enough to become friends, you'll never be alone in a Pinch.

Smile Now, Motorcycles and friends are supposed to be fun, if not, try Bingo.
Thanks and Glad to meet You

welcome guys ,im new here as well so im saying hello

11-24-2012, 10:26 AM
Hola como estas muchachos y muchachas? My name's Cory. Been lurking on this site for a few years on my old account but couldn't remember the info. So I made this one because I'm finally doing a build. Ridden a few bikes; 74 and 75 CB550's and a 73 CB350. My current little project is a 72 SL125 that my girlfriends dad gave me. Has 27XX original miles and its rough ha. Should make a fun around town bike though.

11-24-2012, 3:26 PM
hi cory ,your right the bike is rough ,one of the worst ive seen ,but the tank is really nice ,there great little bikes ....

11-25-2012, 3:23 PM
New guy here from Dallas. picked up a 97' sporty 1200 a few weeks back . cant wait to start choppin it up.

11-25-2012, 9:24 PM
hi cory ,your right the bike is rough ,one of the worst ive seen ,but the tank is really nice ,there great little bikes ....

That tank is shit. I'll have to get a new one because the gas cap has been left off for about 6 years. The biggest hole on the bottom is about half the size of a penny

11-25-2012, 9:58 PM
I've been lurking on this site for awhile. I'm into ironheads, evo sporties and shovels. I do my own machining, welding, paint etc. Not a chopper god by any stretch, just a guy who's too broke to pay somebody to do this stuff for me. I've been wrenching Harleys and brits for the last 25 years, so hopefully I can contribute something worthwhile.

11-25-2012, 11:28 PM
Tried this once before, with no picture. Recently acquired a 1976 FLH, gonna work on her over the winter.

11-27-2012, 9:06 AM
Long time lurker here. Been riding dirt and or street since 83 and built my first bike last winter, an 80/81 XS650. Into vintage hot rods and muscle cars as well, but too broke right now to build one.

11-27-2012, 10:40 AM
A quick intro. BillyBones from Connecticut here. I just bought a 1980 Kawasaki LTD440 for $150. I am starting a bobber build with hopes of keeping the total at $500. Any doh left over will be used for fluff purchases. But for now, I have hard tailed it and am fabbing up an electrics box out of an old Briggs tank. Also picked up some 1/8" stainless plate to pound up a seat pan. I don't like spending money. I like to fab and repurpose and recycle. Also picked up a 1975 Kawasaki KZ400 for parts. If you need something, holler. Motor was not running but had 175lbs. compression. A good sign. Nice to be aboard.

11-30-2012, 2:59 PM
Hello all,

My name is Kyle and I'm a AZ local. Keeping it short and to the point I've been a machinist and engineer all my life and something about motorcycles drew me in at an early age. I take a lot of pride in my work and enjoy working and riding my completed projects as often as I can. Ive been on the site for about a year snooping around at work and reading different articles, mainly when I was in the process of a project but no another one is coming to a close and I have found myself having some spair time so I figured I'd sign up and contribute to the chop cult community. Look forward to meeting some solid people and broadening my knowledge, and BS'ing a bit.

Thanks guys...................

11-30-2012, 5:28 PM
Hey Im grinning new to the forum long time chopper nut and possibly my biggest questions to ask is where do I have to look to find a starting bike so I can start my own project?

11-30-2012, 6:24 PM
I figured I'd stop lurkin' and sign up. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my '68 trump and should have it on the road by next spring. I've got a Norton Commando project and a '56 Pan/Shovel that I'm gonna need a shit ton of help with next. Don't be surprised if I've got a lot of dumb questions on those.

11-30-2012, 6:38 PM
Hey all, I'm a 20 yr old college kid from the bay area and I've been checking this forum out for about 4 months and finally joined about 2 months ago...I've always had an eye for choppers and rat/custom rods. I've been saving up for a while for my own scoot that runs and managed to pick up a 1981 xs650 (xs650 # 1,000,000,000,000, on here) hardtail for cheap...

I am by no means a fabricator or mechanic which is why I wanted something that runs and is already hardtailed, but I've already learned a lot on here and I plan on applying what I've learned, onto my bike. My father is a welder/fabricator but shares no interest in bikes or hot rods with me, but in the few weeks i've had the bike, he has become excited about it and is looking forward teaching me how to weld/fabricate as well as how to paint (the bike is rusty as hell at this point)

I don't consider myself a "biker" for having bought a bike, I have too much respect for you fellas that build bikes from the ground up and put thousands of miles on them and truly live the lifestyle to be walking around being a punk ass poser...I've always leaned towards athletics my whole life and never bothered to learn how to wrench but now that I have a scoot of my own I plan on changing that...Anyways, I hope to meet some cool people on here to be able to learn from them I'm all for supporting fellow 33'ers so if you have a shop near Santa Rosa, CA feel free to hit me up.

11-30-2012, 7:16 PM
New to chop but have been a member of JJ for a long while. Hope to talk to you guys soon!

12-01-2012, 2:14 PM
I build retro speedway bikes using old and modern parts. They have been shown but are mainly built to be ridden. I don't see the point of having something all shiny and not used other than to stare at.

1960s Whiteman Speedway stuntman/racer/promoter/career criminal Dude Criswell tribute bike. I call it a Rat Speedway bike and it's an ant-showbike so I never clean it.

1970s Weslake twin carb

1980s SOHC Weslake

Bought a '08 FXSTC in late '07 after my third tour in Iraq and have been modifying and riding the piss out of it ever since. Don't claim to be guru...just a quick learner. Love'n the info I've found...

The first attachment is how the bike has been for the past couple of years, the second is current mod's underway.

12-02-2012, 2:26 PM
Hey guys, long time Cult lurkers here. Feels like AA introductions.. :cheersmate:

We're fellow riders aspiring to one day have a legit shop. Right now, we ride 50+ miles a day to work and back. Spring, summer, fall, AND winter. We might be in Florida, but winter still sucks. We're currently in the process of building two cafe bikes: 1977 and 1979 cb750's. Upon completion, I have a 1980 cb650 that will slowly morph into a bobber.

So, we'll be posting often in threads. See ya there.

First day at the chopcult. I got my 69 XLCHopster in July 12. I started riding at a tender age, 3. I went from a 50 to an 80 to my first clutch and shifting bike. It was a 69 HD Rapido 125. Dual sport. Dad still has it but wont let me restore it. Then in the winter of 04-5 area i borrowed my mom's 97 hugger. She never rode it and i didnt want to walk. So I learned how to ride on the street on a harley. then this summer i bought the chopper I have. I traded my 98 malibu and 500 bucks for a ol 70's project thats sat since. It caught on fire the same day when the bendix shot out flames and it went up quick. I fixed it all and lost 3 months riding but Im back on the road every day. I CHanged the tanks to a king tank. took a bunch of rigged up shit off and redid a lot. Its been interesting and fun. So far ive cut about 25 pounds off it, rewired it, got a free magneto from a good friend in Tennessee and Im waiting to get it all cleaned up and done. I love CHoppers, bobbers, mild n wilds. as long as its an ol harley or Indian, Im happy. I wont rag on the others unless in a joke but I love what I love. Anyways, enough ADHD for the day. here is my baby. I do all my own work. no one else is trusted. Im paranoid with it. Plus my lifes goal is to master the arts of Indians and pre evo Harleys. really, pre 70's harleys but sportys and big twins are cool. im not into chrome, floor boards, windshields and fake ass sum bitches. :cheersmate: the fat bobs pic is the day i got it. now it has a sudco mikuni carb, a magneto (about to drop in) solo seat, no sissy bar, no chrome

I guess this is the spot for the new guys. I've been looking on here for a while. Decided I would give it a shot. I have a 96 Softail because I am getting older and can't handle a rigid all the time. I have a 93 Evo in a rigid project. I've did my time on Pans and Flattys and an occasional Shovel. Met a few of the guys on here at the Harvest Run. Not a big one, but not small. It was a good ride non the less. Cudos to the promoter. That's about it. See you on the road.

Been lurking here for a while now, just posting. 21 years old with not much experience, but learning every day and taking metal fab. classes every week. Only been riding for a year or so now, but I fucking love it to death. I have a gs750 I've been working on, just rebuilt the carbs and welded together a sissy bar.

Hello there people. I'm Oli from a little town in England and I ride an '88 sporty. Have grown up my entire life around bikes. Customs, chops and trikes so just here for a bit of added inspiration for my bike which bar some apes is a bone stock 883
Plans are hopefully work out some sort of soft-tail chop set up (the misses has only just agreed to get on the thing, lets not scare her off too quick) with a look in the future to possibly fab up a little turbo, although finding a blow thru carb may prove tricky and its far from a common thing from what I've seen, so that may well be for good reason. We shall see...
Anyway, I'll throw up some photos at some point when I have proper access to the computer and whatnot.

12-12-2012, 12:17 PM
Hey guys. Lurked around the forum for a while and decided to join up. I'm from Montreal, Canada. I used to have a chopped and dropped Honda Shadow 750 and then sold it and now I have a 2004 636 but I want to build own bike which is why I joined this site so I can learn from all the members we got on here. I'll post the pictures of my bikes in a little while, currently studying for exams....

Hello there people. I'm Oli from a little town in England...
Anyway, I'll throw up some photos at some point when I have proper access to the computer and whatnot.

As I said I'll get some pictures up, here we go!
This is roughly how she stands at the moment, although a lot of the paint is starting to flake a bit where its suddenly getting used after 12 years of being sat doing nothing! 2 new plugs, a battery, bit of oil, fresh fuel and a carb clean and some persuasion and she started! And only needed a new front tyre to get it road legal again!

This is it in its hay-day I suppose, when it was all one colour, didn't have rust or corrosion anywhere and wasn't peeling paint like a sunburnt ginger.

And I guess seeing as we all love chops I'll treat you guys to some of the things I grew up around, Pretty much all you see here was owned and built by my dad, and friends/colleagues as he worked for Desperate Dans Custom Bikes for many years.
Here is a bunch of my favourite of his

He had a whole load of trikes through the years

And another of his

And finally I'll leave you with one of me in the desperate dans workshop sat on a V8 bike that was being built at the time. And strangley that wasn't the craziest thing to come out of that shop!

So thats my intro done I guess, I hope none of you guys are still on dial-up because thats a load of photos!

Hello all. My names Johnny 5. Live at 9000ft in "pot is legal" Colorado.
I have a rigid sporty and I need some/any advise on making a foot clutch/ hand shiftin' set up. Ok, I know about Briola or Briolia, whatever, but to me it really looks weak as hell and kinda lame. Yes I know Led sleds gig, but its for forward controls, which I despise. (read): MID controls!! Anyway, I dont want to have the shift lever directly on the shift shaft due to ghost shifting. I would like to make a bracket that bolts to the rear of the case and it will put it farther back like it would be on a big twin. My problem is that I need to figure out how to run the clutch cable to the foot pedal and also make a stop for it and still mount mid controls. I will just have a bar linkage w/ heim bolts on both ends, to connect shift peg to the hand shifter about a foot further back. I am a trial and error guy so, bear with me. Posted this on the motor companys forum, but im sure its mostly the sheep of bagger nation so probably not much coming from that. Submitted for your amusement. Now turn this thing off and shovel yer way to the garage where you belong....

12-15-2012, 1:03 PM
Hey man, Im Johnny 5. Your writing is as good as Bourdain and better than crack! Thank you. just sayin...

12-15-2012, 1:42 PM

I just Wanted to give my intro's:

I have wanted a Harley since I was a little kid growing up with my Dad and Uncles who always had at least one lying around, and after my first deployment to Afghanistan I had the cash to convince the wifey to let me pick up an 08 XL1200 Nightster. I am sitting with a clean slate and now just sitting down and figuring out what direction to take her before I start chopping...

Wish me luck @ hacking!

hello, aaron here. this site is great!

12-19-2012, 5:50 AM
Hey everyone! New member here who recently started his 2012 winter project.

My Dad and I are rebuilding my old Evo custom.

Some brief info:

Throwing some old school FLH fenders on it.
Going with 16" - 18" standard ape hangers.
Went from a standard seat to a spring seat.
Putting the spot lights back on.
Much more...!

It's freakin' cold out in that garage!

Quick video (also need some opinions on risers for ape hangers - in the video I sit on the bike figuring out what size apes to go with):

Before pic (sorry for the quality):

Current (as of 12/16/2012):

Been lurking for a long time. I picked up a 90 FXRP that used to be an Austin cop bike. It has a crappy past couple owners. Took me about a year to sort it all out. Cleaned up cylinders, new pistons, EV27, cam bearing, pushrods, numerous motor leaks, removed all "Live to Ride" chrome crap, redone wiring, no signals, key start, 12" Flyrite bars, shaved down the controls, removed forwards and went back to mids, changed rear wheel back to original black mag from solid wheel.

Has an known rounded swingarm that looks to be for a wider tire. Still needs paint, and I need to replace stator so plug stops leaking primary oil all over the motor. Also want to get rid of the Vance Hines short shots and get a 2 into 1.

I am enjoying the tech sections and Junk Pile...:killerjob:

I have been checking out some of the awesome build threads here for a couple of weeks now and am finally ready to start my own. I picked up a 96 VN800A and got started on it tonight. Check out my build thread in the Jap bike builds section and I hope you enjoy giving me advice and a load of crap for the new guy.

Hello from Milwaukee area. I like them all but I love home built stuff. There is so much talent on this board.

12-23-2012, 3:56 PM
Hello everyone, I was drawn here by some of the blogs and the pictures from the mooneyes show. I've ridden a bit of every type of bike in my life and have right now a MZ Skorpion I acquired recently and have a Suzuki DR 650 too. I am really digging the Sportster Scrambler build thread in the American forum, wanting to build something along those lines myself.

A lot of my riding now consists of riding as much gravel roads as possible and getting farther away from civilization.

Hi, My name is Frank. I live in Illinois. I have an on again off again romance with my 1970 BSA Lightning chopper and a 1974 Ironhead project I'm working on. Might do a build thread. I've pretty much got all the parts but a frame. Right now I'm doing a run of some beehive marker/brakelights, shifter knobs and some other parts. I also can mak grips and pegs, always up for trading labor or parts and general wheelings and dealings of parts. Whatever it takes to keep the train moving.

12-24-2012, 1:24 PM
Hey everyone. I'm from South Dakota. Been on here a few times. I like the classifieds and reading about builds. Thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself officially. My name is Jared. Being its cold as shit outside I'll be on here to kill time between my projects. Thanks for the great site!

I decided to join this site because everyone seems more open minded than the other sites!
I am from the Great White North. Manitoba, Canada, and I just got a 2000 Dyna Wide Glide. It was a deal I couldn't pass up but I am not a huge fan of how it looks, so I'm looking forward to making it into what I want!

12-26-2012, 8:07 PM
Hey, my name's Dave. I live in central MA, and am relatively new to the bike scene. I've wanted a bike forever and finally found one last spring that fit my price tag, as well as skill level as far as resto. I've been wrenching, fabbing, and painting on cars for quite a while now, so with that said I hope to be able to offer up what knowledge I have, as well as take in from others and build my bike to exactly the way I want it.

This is where I began. Hacked, Spray painted, and just a mess of a Sportster.

This is how it currently sits. Everything that has been done, I did myself, no outsourcing!

12-26-2012, 8:21 PM

Hey everyone my name's Tyler, my hometown is vancouver B.C. (aldergrove) I've worked in indy bike shops for about 10 yrs, been a car mechanic millwright and fabricator to fill some winter months, and done some tow truckin.

I try to keep busy on projects keeps me out of too much trouble. I like all kinds of bikes started on the dirt at 4yrs on a honda z50. yamaha mx100, saved and bought 83 cr125 at 12.. every cop in Surrey chased me on that bike. kx 250 shortly after that and then some xr hondas always around. rode 1969 cb100 that i rescued from the dead. The current ride is a 90 Harley FXRS with a hot 80"

Theres a good group of bros around here but it would be great to meet some more. Van island and Interior B.C. theres thousands of premium roads.

I also like big hp stuff. crew chief'd a Weekend /PRP top fuel nitro harley to consistant 6.70s at 200+ and a best of 6.55 214mph. I can be a stickler for doing it right, but i know when to giv'er beans too. ill get my ass in gear and post some cool shit now. and thanks to those who make this place possible. Regards :cheersmate: -Tyler

I'm Jason and I'm from Maine. I've been into bikes for quite a while but it's been sport bikes. I've got a CBR 929 right now. Anyway, I grew up riding on the back of my father's iron head and I really want to build one of my own with a hard tail. I've never done anything like this before. I built my 929 from a basket case but the only custom thing on it is the paint. I'm doing my first chop on an 87 Suzuki Savage that I picked up or $300. I'll probably keep the shocks on this one but I do want to get my feet wet with a little fabrication. I'm thinking sportster tank, tallish z bars, lowered, fake oil tank, forward control extensions, solo seat (I'm going to try my own leather tooling as well), etc. Not sure on a rear fender yet, trailer or reuse the front. My plan is still evolving but I'm learning a lot from this site so far. I'll get a build thread going once I finish my wrangler project. I'm hoping to start by the end of January.

01-02-2013, 9:21 AM
Whats up everyone its Brett from Detroit.

Got the sportster tore down for the winter. My buddy plans on doing a dropseat swingarm design on my bike.. Gonna be pretty sick, considering no one has that.

Should be a good time. Stoked to be on here finally.

01-02-2013, 10:11 AM
Hey guys, new to the forum. I live in Smiths falls On, drive truck for a living, and between that and raising my son try to wrench and ride as much as possible. Ive got a 74 XS650 with HHB PMA, Cap, and VM34s thats my daily ride, and a 71 basket case XS chop that Im prolly gonna sell. Im looking hard for a 60's XLCH for my next bike, but money is tight so thats gonna be a one piece at a time kinda thing.

01-02-2013, 7:16 PM
Hello guys and gals. My name is Mikie and I hale from the thriving metropolis of St. Peters Missouri. It's a suburb just outside St. Louis. I have a couple two or three bikes at the moment. First daily is an 03 mastiff. It was my first bike. I learned the most from this bike. It has had its ups and downs but has been worth it in the long run. Number two is an 08 sporty. It's fun. And over the summer I picked up an 1980 cb750c. This will be my first go from tip to tale. I picked up a weld on hard tail from cycle one. It is going to be pretty bitchin. And lastly i just landed a pan head repop. It is a big motor. I pulled a plug and measured the stroke. I had to do it twice cause I couldn't believe the first one. 5"? That's a long assed stroke right? Well anyway it came with a baker 6 into 4 kicker/electric start. Bdl open 3"belt drive. So now I'm on the verge of selling the dog to fund the panhead build. Thanks for having me and reading my novel. Oh yeah cntrhub is a brilliant motherfucker!

01-02-2013, 10:03 PM
Thanks for letting me register into your forum. Luckily, finding a proper forum, is getting easier to do lately, and I have learned many things from the ChopCult forum already.

I'm working on 3 bikes, a 02 Kraft tec softail 30 rake with s&s cases supporting evolution top end

a 69 Ironhead that I purchased as a loosely bolted together , I want to say basket but not sure what you would call it. Chopped off the rear end, welded up a Santee - easy as pie -, and looks great. Just got the cases mated back together after sealing and cleaning the crankcase out real good. Replaced trap-door bearing and the other clutch plate bearing. And since there were no clutch springs included in the 'kit', it now has a brand new set for a 74+ model (since that's what kind of clutch it has). Tranny shifts nice through all the gears, so I think I may stick it back into the frame and start putting the jugs on.

The other project is a 83 Ironhead, which I am considering doing just about the same thing too, except going with 4" under forks, cause I really like the angry monkey bikes. I just cant seem to put the right google terms in to find very many sportsters set up in the long / boardtrack style for inspiration.

01-03-2013, 7:48 AM

Hey, I'm Rex; currently in Southwest Michigan (just over Indiana border, straight across the lake from Chi-town).

I'm a 3rd generation motorcycle/Harley guy; my grandfather used to race flat tracks and hill climbs, and all sorts of shit in the '30s and '40s; my dad always had had all sorts of stuff... '49 pan, ironhead, 850 norton commando...

I plan on riding my shovel from Michigan to Cali for the El Diablo run in May.
Its one of the oddballs, an '83 FXDG. The "willie g disk glide"
Not stock. But I would like to find one of the original disk rear wheels from which it derives its name.
so if anybody knows of any....

Anyway, found this place thru Biltwell or Lowbrow... seems like a collection of fairly like minded people.

01-04-2013, 5:49 PM
I'm Tony, another new guy. I rode Triumphs mostly for 35 years. Stopped riding about 10 years ago but it never lasts. A younger friend got me to build him a few bikes..And now we're doing a Triumph for Bonneville.
This is the first one I did for him. Started off as a pile of parts, nothing fancy.

This is the last one I did being lowered off the work stand onto the floor for the first start up.

I think so, actually got it off a tribute CD Rush put out a few years ago (Called Feedback) were they paid tribute to bands they were fans of, a cool but unusual song.

Hey all. Just joined last week. I run RAM Customs, which I build bikes, cars, complete restores. All that kind of stuff. Ive got a couple bikes of my own. A 1972 Honda CB 750 that is a Cafe Racer and then I have a 1978 Suzuki GS 550 that Im turning into a bobber right now. Im building the frame myself, not buying a kit, thats dumb. :p Im actually helping build a starter bike with my girlfriend too that is a 1972 CB 175. Shes going to make that a Cafe and wants to paint everything herself. Im just helping with all the steps.

Anyways, Hey everyone! Im sure I'll put my 2 cents in here and there.. Feel free to check out my website at www.ramcustoms.co

I'm Sebastian (aka 53Bash) from St. Paul MN (and a lot of other places). Am currently in the middle of my first ever custom build, dived in pretty deep for a first timer (custom suspension at both ends, full body work, rearsets, exhaust, airbox, electric relocate + rewire - basically everything except engine, core frame, and wheels). Build details will be in the Japanese bike section, cause its a 1981 XJ750 RH Seca. Looks like I just missed the "dirty dozen" cutoff; I'm building the bike for a contest on another site (customfighters.com) but there's no sponsorship or prize's (afaik) there, its just for fun.

hello, originally hail from Boston but moved to Virginia to get away from snow many years ago. Been riding for well over thirty years. In that time rode damn near every brand and style you could think of. Like wrenching even more than riding, as long as I do not have too ! If I want to ride, I do not want to be fixing. Anyways, currently working on a 1979 Ironhead. Kid bought it for 1,100.00 and got tired of working on it. I got it from him fro payment of monies he had borrowed. Threatened for a bit to restore and go bone stock for my grandson. That idea lasted about a week and I ordered a hardtail for it. Rebuilt the motor and being I am a sheet metal man with a shop, did the hardtail. Fabbed a oil bag, cut the stock pipes and did some position adjusting. Added a wide glide from a 1986 FXR, changed to dual disc front using 1986 and up calipers from and rear with 11" disc up front from a 2007 bagger I have. I kind of like useing what I got or can trade for. Keeps the beer and bourbon fund up.
Anyways, Spent a few years as a patch for a national in the late 70's early eighties and was awarded a all expenses vacation at the state hotel. Kind of thought at that point I needed a break and been pretty much a loner since. Ride my bagger a long distance trip for a week somewhere in the country every year and the remainder is mostly 200 miles weekend rides to nowhere. Rite at this moment I am putting the trans back in the ironhead as I fubbared it the first time and required help to find my issue. Other than that the ironhead runs oh so sweet. That is me other than I go by BC or Nasty or any other thing you care to call me. Looking forward to ideas and pictures and I am hopefull to again build a rigid Flattie. Money forced me to sell my last one and miss it ever since.

Hey everyone, I'm Curt from the Green Bay area of WI. I started building my first chopper in 2008 from a '63 pan shovel. It is still an ongoing build. I've been riding it for the past two seasons. I'll get to posting pics some day. Anyway, there isn't much of a chopper scene in the area, so I'm hoping to connect with some cool people and maybe get one going

Hi, I'm Sean, I'm living outside of Fort Dodge, IA till I can find some way to literally get the fuck out of Dodge. Originally from Fargo, ND. I'm 33, and I love cigars, Jameson, and athletic single moms.
I have a loveably cheap 79 gs550, my daily ride in the summertime, built on a $475 budget including the $400 to buy it and zero time to do any real work on it till now (though the budget is still about zero). I'm probably going to ask a lot of comically stupid questions. Probably already have, actually.

^^Yeah, yeah, I know. Get fucked.^^

I also have a 73 cb350f I plan to restore when I have better facilities for the job. Or maybe I'll just dip the carbs and ride it. We'll see.

Hi, my names Rob from the South Island in NZ and a long time lurker. I'm a boilermaker by trade so fabricate and weld for a living (heavy mining equipment) and mess about motorbikes. So I've managed to get a hold of a triumph t120 engine, fuel tank and OIF frame and about to start my first bike build, I expect I will be asking some dumb questions in the near future.

Cheers Rob

Clay from jax,nc. Figured time to introduce myself.
Been gone a lot with work and all, now teaching myself how to bob a 75 ironhead. Love the site and all the experience on it. Other bike is a Honda shadow and I decided to teach myself how to build a bike I can call my own from the ground up. I've learned a lot from this site already and look forward to submitting my work for critique once I get it hard tailed and rideable.
Other than that ,its guns, women and fun.
