So I guess I am going to start a thread documenting the transformation of Kz650.
Heres what Im starting out with:
http://chopcult.com/uploads_user/1000/466/6359.jpg

And heres what I have got done so far:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2543/3943693444_851b0e65e7.jpg

not alot done but it's a start. No certain plans yet, just a few ideas coming together as I go along. Going to take me a while between work and school and trying to skate if there is anytime after that. But stay posted, more updates soon.

i thought so...just hope to god your not thinking what im thinking right now..if so then yeah...so what are you gonna do to the ass end of this beauty of kawi fucking greatness

lobstermobster
09-23-2009, 10:12 PM
Not exactly sure. I do know im going to try and strip it of everything unnecessary, wheels... seat... exhaust ect. ect. just the extra stuff. then probly slap one of these on the back..
http://www.candiessecret.com/resources/productimages/full/gfhim_clds_full.jpg

so it will give the illusion of "mooning" everyone, while giving them a chance to try and throw spare change in my snatch so I can afford to keep buying new things for my bike.

justin666
09-23-2009, 11:00 PM
haha mine is cut in the same place too!!! woah! haha. high five for owning hacked up kzs!

junkyard2
09-24-2009, 12:12 AM
if you put that on the back let me know i will follow you around and wait till you go inside somewhere....i still have no idea what the fuck im gonna do...i know struts for sure..unless i find some money somewhere then whole new back half fuck now i got a stiffy..high five to you justin guess we just following your lead woot..

lobstermobster

im so in decisive. i would love a hardtail. but id rather have a hardtail on a smaller bike. i might extend the swingarm a little bit, would make it lower too. who knows. hopefully find some tiny shocks, might try to cut the springs i have. hopefully get a rocket launcher on there somehow but homeland security is getting iffy about it

billybiltit
09-24-2009, 3:10 PM
i think sporty shocks might be lower than your stock kz shocks.just a thought.

lobstermobster
09-24-2009, 8:00 PM
yeah. and im pretty sure, suzuki s40 savage shocks get pretty small. tough finding a pair though.

junkyard2
09-24-2009, 9:59 PM
strut it like justin's.....thats what im doing...im gonna have to post pics of what im doing so you can get a good laugh..as my buddy said now thats getto...peace

leon holmes

how much fab do you have to do to make sporty shocks work though?

billybiltit
09-25-2009, 10:25 AM
they should have eye's on both ends already,so it should just be a bolt on deal afaik.i know the kz1000 guys say it is a bolt on deal, hth.

leon holmes

justin666
09-25-2009, 10:30 AM
hmmm, im pretty sure the shock mounting set up is the same for the 1000 as the 650s
sporty shocks might be a good way to go

junkyard2
09-25-2009, 5:53 PM
i heard somewhere im thinking kzrider.com...that you have to grind something on the sporty shocks i just cant fucking think what it was...so fuck it

lobstermobster
09-25-2009, 7:40 PM
you might have to grind or mod something on your swing arm. because the kz shocks are really skinny on the bottom and rise up, but some shocks are fat on the bottom. kinda like if the top of the kz shock was the same way on the bottom. if you understand what im saying.

edit: like this....

yeah it was at the swing arm...had to grind just a little to get them to fit..of course just what they told me...vulcan 500 shocks will fit great..but i say fuck it and strut it..

lobstermobster
09-25-2009, 9:55 PM
do you know the measurements for vulcan 500 shocks, eye to eye?

lobstermobster
09-25-2009, 10:03 PM
this question is probably fucking stupid. but do you think dirt bike shocks will work? found some on ebay, they say mono shock but its the same style so if you got 2...would it work. they got a snazzy look to them but just wondering if they would hold up, be strong enough....although they are used for jumping ramps and shit.

ive got a set of 10.5 inch sporty shocks i'm gonna see about puttin on, i'll let you guys know how it goes...

i dont see why they wouldnt be strong enough, i mean they're designed to get the shit beat out of them, and only use one. if youve got two on your bike i would think itd be stronger than somethin like sporty shocks.

junkyard2
09-26-2009, 11:38 AM
on the vulcan shocks i think they are 11 inches eye to eye..im with justin on the dirt bike shocks i have seen them on kzs before but it was like a mono shock setup..they should work great..

lobstermobster
09-26-2009, 11:53 AM
yeah if i get shorter shocks, i might go for some of those. they are only sold individually (beacuse they're supposed to be mono) but even so, the price for 2 is still way cheaper than a set of real motorcycle shocks.

but i was thinking about extending the swingarm, so i would have more room to work with all the junk under the seat. And that would make my bike sit lower also. I dunno, I just need to make up my mind and commit to one thing and just go for it.

junkyard2
09-26-2009, 1:33 PM
i have seen a kz 650 with extended swing arm...it does lower it still useing the stock shocks..go to you tube and look for kz650 bobber....unknownmc somthing like that its red i remember that much fuck bad memory...

lobstermobster
09-26-2009, 9:13 PM
yeah i found it. SuperUnkownMC is the poster. pretty nice, i think extended swingarm is the way to go for me.

lobstermobster
09-27-2009, 7:08 PM
Oh you got it. But like I said in my first post. This is going to be a long and slow build for me. Between work and school and trying to skate and learning my bike as a go. Hopefully I can do certain things to it and still be riding it as I go along. We'll see though.

But untill my next bike update, this should keep you guys entertained. http://www.peopleofwalmart.com

Not a huge update, but there was some progress over the last day or so.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2648/3996536451_aec46c9905.jpg

If you can see that big gaping hole in the middle of my bike, then you'll see I finally got rid of that huge, gross air box finnally. Scored me some of these....

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3478/3996536429_55e4cb8521.jpg

Air Pods!

Now I just need to get my swing arm extended. Having trouble with that because all the shops in my area do not do any type of frame mods unless its a ground up build from scratch. "Liability" fuckkkk. Got hit up one more shop that my boss knows so well see how that goes.

Hey junkyard, does tc brothers make a hard tail for a kz 650 ? cool. Lobster found anyone to do your swingarm yet. lemme know.

lobstermobster
10-12-2009, 9:40 PM
TCbros does not make a hardtail kit FOR the kz650. BUT they make a Universal Hardtail kit, and its only $125.

I have not found anyone, or had time to check anywhere else. My boss has a buddy in the city that has a shop and so I might try there when I get the time.

Here is my strut setup for my kz400 that I just did. Before I had basically chopped it in the same spot that all you guys did.

what it looked like....

Finished look....
http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww39/bodie1204/handbarconst.jpg

This was the way I went with it I am sure that there are others. I just didn't want to hardtail it cause you always see hardtails not that I don't love them cause I do! Just wanted to go a different route.

Hope this helps

lobstermobster
10-17-2009, 2:32 PM
yeah I wanted to extend the swing arm out a bit so i could do something like this.

So I had a couple hours to spare today and got to work on the bike.

http://www.chopcult.com/uploads_user/1000/466/9122.jpg
Let the de-cluttering begin!

http://www.chopcult.com/uploads_user/1000/466/9123.jpg
Went through the bucket and sorted it out and labeled all the wires so I know what they go to.
Even though I will probably be tearing it all out anyway, it makes me feel better having them all organized.

http://www.chopcult.com/uploads_user/1000/466/9121.jpg
And then its gone. Glad I got it done though, it was a productive night seeing how I havent done anything in quite a bit.

I took my swing arm to a welder and just said I need this extended 3 3/4 inches, cost me 75 bucks and it's been a runner now for 7 years. Don't tell 'em it's for a bike....that's the key, I believe.

i am doing pretty much the same thing to my kz, as of yet i have cut the ass off mine in the same place and cut the stock tank up. it makes an awesome shaped tank if you take out a pie wedge from about 3.5 inches in the back up to a point at the front. ill try and post some pics of it tonight.

it's seeming to take a life of it's own.
i think i need to stop looking at pictures of other peoples bikes.

I drew one up for mine but i'll have to scan it and add it here. Basically I have a 30amp circuit breaker, a 40amp bosch relay (starter, ditched the clunky solenoid chingadera), a 30a bosch hdlt relay, and a 30a bosch coil relay. Go to http://wgcarbs.com and check out their tech section on how and why you add a coil relay to these bikes. I also kept my key switch just to save some cabbage. But I put a starter buttton (no need for high amp since using a relay 5-10amp fine), and a hdlt switch. Also check out http://oregonmotorcycleparts.com for rectifier/regulator if yours is no good.

haha. I need to read up on my shit. Everything you just said, Wompy, sounded like blahblahblah to me. but cut me some slack im new to this.
I just want as little wires as possible. headlight, taillight. im putting the ignition key switch, on/off, and light switch down below in the seat area.

dudes I got the skinned down version wiring harness diagram, super simple and eliminates the starter all together , which is good for you rock lobster mobster because its all bla bla bla anyway right. The only thing is I made it in a pdf file so I cant post on here. I actually did a tw opiece removing the harness and skinning it down. then redoing it for simplicity with eliminating all the stuff other than whats neccesary.

yeah hey, thats it pretty simple, gets rid of alot of shit ! oh on the stator side there is also a neutral safety switch and an oil pressure switch , you dont need em either. its not to hard if you look at the plug heads you can see which ones go where. And chop that other shit out. Have fun man. !!

Here is my KZ750, I read the talk about suspension and this is what I did (im about to hard tail it so these will be coming off soon) I used the suspension from a 1976Honda Elsinore MT250, fit great after a little drilling on the new suspension. I think they are 11 inches eye to eye. I picked up on the bay for like $15s. Hope this helps. If you need a better pic let me know.

For all you KZ guys that chopped the back and then ran out of ideas to finish it up, I am going to try and weld a tail like this:

http://www.rocketbobs.biz/gallery7/pintailbob3.jpg

Itll be a little different, but some plugs in the frame back there and some tubing will make a similar type of triangle shaped rear end.

I'm starting here:
