i really want a sportster but i admire the japanese bikes, not to mention they are about half the price. i want to get something i can ride long distance keep in mind...

it has potential i think...its so cheap and it seems to run good.

ughhh the red wiring though? and the seat? and the tank?and the headlight? gotta go!

this one seems poorly done but maybe it just needs a little elbow grease and taste?

that second CB is badass but 550 is kinda small for long distance...not saying you couldn't do it because you could. that XS is also pretty rad. the only thing is you don't know what some douche wizard has done to it when you buy a pre-moddified bike. Look them over good before buying!

I'd go with the stock bike Simply because you dont know what has been done to the chopped bikes

ive been more interested in the xs bikes lately but ive been told to get a early 70s and that one is a 79...im not sure if ide be sacraficing some reliability with a later, more complicated model? i prefer just the LOOK of xs most of the time but it seems cb's are more common.

ive been told i HAVE to get a xs if im getting a japanese bike because they are a lot easier to work on and more reliable than cb's but then again....its all how you look at it right?

i just got an email from the guy with the black hardtail cb550 bobber, it seems to be done a little tacky ide probably pass

All xs650's are pretty good motors the issues with the 80 and up are the charging systems. there is a load of info on them all over the net. 79' is a good year. If you go with the xs talk him down a bit for the thing that need to be fixed on it.then you can take the xtra cash and hardtail it.

how interchangeable are spoked wheels? im not really feeling the huge white walls and painted mags...im thinking a nice 19 inch spoked front wheel and a sportster tank would really change the look if it to something im going for (found multiple sportster tanks for under 100 bucks on craigslist)

may need some spacers but it's an easy swap

If you are looking into XS there is alot of info on the thchopperunderground.com

Cb550 are a bit under powered . If I was I would look around for a CB750 since there are alot more parts still made for them ! There is a nice one up here for $1500 or so . Check reno NV craigs list for chopper and it will come up .

yeah dude, i always like the idea of buying something that hasnt been fucked with. its one thing when youre riding a bike you've hacked up, but its kinda like jumping off a cliff blind when you get a already "chopped" bike.
