View Full Version : XS650 DIY Rear Brake Pivot

I see this topic pop up from time to time on alot of the boards. This board is more chop friendly though ( no offense to the "keep it stock" crowd:rolleyes:)

I've seen more than my fair share of cobbled together mess to operate the rear brakes on the XS650, especially when it is hard tailed. None of the off the shelf tail sections offer a method to operate the rear brake, so I came up with this.

Very simple really, it is a bored out piece of 1018 steel, to fit the stock brake pivot. I added a grease fitting to keep it all working smoothly. Add in a small section of tubing notched to fit the frame and the pivot shell, and you are set. I've been using this style of pivot mount on all the XS's that come through the shop, and it works really well and keeps the leverage against the rear brake just like the stock bike had.

Using Forward Controls?? This will still work to actuate the rear break, just keep your stock pivot and all the hardware that attaches it to the rear drum, weld the pivot to your frame and cut down the stock brake lever to attach to your forwards. On the cut down brake lever, you will drill a hole to attach the brake rods from the forward controls. (usually supplied with your Forwards)

MikesXS has the aluminum starter block-off for a very reasonable price from what I can recall. That was one of the 1st things I removed from my XS.
