View Full Version : Kz650 frame help.

Well my kz650 project started out keeping its suspension with HD 10" shocks in the back. But decided I really want it to be hardtail. Been doing some sketches to try to get the frame right.
Hoping a few of you guys could chime in with some constructed criticism or tips on my frame design. I'll be using the front section of the stock frame, too keep it easier to register.

suggestions for amount of stretch would be great.

Here goes, stock, then hardtailed. havent finished the back of the frame yet, but you get the idea.

well the thing I forgot to mention was that the tank I am using requires a slightly longer single backbone. So I figured since I have to cout out the top mating point I might aswell reconstruct the whole think. Do you guys think my design is to weak?

I did a 2" stretch and 2" up. This dropped the stance a bit so I lowered my forks to match. I don't like over-stretched jap bikes because you end up with a big empty space and leaves you reaching for your bars unless you're 6'5".
Be careful where you place that seat post connecting to the rear motor mounts. The carbs may become a bitch to pull on and off. Also think what seat and tank you'll be using, that way you can visualize what the bike will look like and know what you have to do for tabs and such.

Here is one i did but i changed everything to get 200 tire on back

with the 2" drop and stretch, what kind of clearance do you have. Im thinking the 2" stretch might be good, but I might need mmore drop.

Rich, that bike looks cool but I think its too long for the look im going for.

Oh and I'm 6'2" with monkey arms so I can reach pretty well to the drag bars.

Hi I'm new and sorry this is on such an old post. I'm very new at this. Are there any updated pics? I just acquired a 78 kz650.I really want to hardtail it. A lot of pics I've seen the hardtail done looks super sketchy and not clean.
