View Full Version : V Star 650 KJS single carb mod, tig weld single back bone to replace double back bone

I have a 2000 V Star 650 which I have Bobbed .
I came across this V Star on youtube and said WOW…I want to do the same with my V Star. (props to Uptown Customs and Rob)
I did my research and discovered in order to change the huge gas tank I had to deal with the air intake box under the gas tank,
I looked at the Uptown Customs V star and discovered it had a single carb setup and which seemed the only way I could do away with the airbox,
Mods needed :
1) replace stock carb system with single carb system.
2) Cut out and remove the double back bone and tig weld in a single back bone to mount gas tank.
3) Reposition speedometer
After a google search I came across the custom KJS single carb kit for Yamaha V Star 650 which costs a hefty $ 670 delivered. Before I did anything I researched the KJS system and found this write up.
Spoke to the guy who designed the system named Ken and he explained the details about his system so I ordered the kit.
I have been learning tig welding and can weld ok, I will continue to practice tig welding and when I feel I am good enough I will consider tig welding in a single back bone .
Planned design for single back bone
Please give me feedback about the back bone design or any feedback…
Thanks for response

Nice V star, I've heard good things about the KJS system, been thinking about one for my 1100, heard you give up some at the very top end but gain a lot every where else. so if your not revving the Fuck out of it you should love it

I've heard mixed things on the KJS. I have an 1100 Vstar and I have thought about it for a while. You can get rid of the airbox, and run pod filters with a rejet to give you a little more umph. You can even turn them out and mount something else for a gas tank, but the double backbone is a bitch. I've toyed around with the idea of taking the bottom out of a wrecked tank and mating it to a king sporty tank or some other variant. It's easier than swapping out the double backbone.
