Hey guys im building a cb550 and i got a hardtail kit from tc bros and ive got the frame cut and everything im just not sure how to weld on the part that goes to the back bone. If anyone has any close up pictures of that weld or advice on how they did it i would really appreciate it. Thanks

Dude, get in touch with TC Bros. They are real helpful. Send 'em some pics and ask some questions.

You can check my build, I have a few close ups with the tcbros kit, although you don't have to do it exactly like I did it, I utilized the full hardtail kit which stretched it a good bit. If you have any questions you can pm me I'll try to help but i'm no expert.

Here's one of the pics on mine, you can check the thread for more.

You also don't have to cut as far up as I did you can leave some of the rear of the frame intact and cut the bends out of the tc bros kit and connect it straight instead of having to cut the section where the motor mounts to (if that makes any sense at all, if not pm I'll try to explain better).

Just noticed you said you already had the frame cut, so the above options may or may not apply, would be nice to see a pic of where you got it cut, I just join here to and the guys here seem to really love a lot of pics and details.

Figure I'd post a few more since I was bored :)
I'll see if I can dig up some more.

I do them all the time and i take out the backbone because the stock on is hollow and with a hardtail if you don't suport it good it will bend. There is one guy on here that did one with the stock backbone and it looks like he did a good job gussing it up. I did one years ago on a 360 and that was a light bike and riding around hitting pot holes and bumps with the long ass end it bent just where i welded it to the hollow back bone. Some cases never did it but someone said they did put a solid rod in the backbone before welding. I am doind a cb550 now new back bone and hardtail i will post some pictures for you to see. Just make sure you use the two frame rails that are on the picture posted that are not conected that was my mistake went for looks and took away suport and you should be good. I have done 3 CB 550 and abunch of CB750 and i just did a CM 450 auto for a customer.

Yea I agree, with this guy, thats why I reconnected those down frame rails. I wasn't sure if it would hold up, glad I did it now after hearing that yours bent at the weld. I just reversed the legs to give it a different look. I really would like to see that cm450 Rich, my neighbor has one i'm thinking about grabbing.
