Picked up the bike in December. Its a 1975 with 11,000 on it .Had not run since '95. Fresh gas and a good battery fired it up,idled. So I fired up the sawzall! Just finished stretching the swingarm 2 1/2" I am happy with the stance now.

Thanks ,Its a evolving work in progress, I need to finish mounting everything and finish welding the frame/swing arm . Next move will be coming up with battery and electrics boxes.

Looks like a fun project. I think the reason the curved seat rails look really good is when the seat follows them closely so I think the seat looks off where it is. Moving it forward may help but you could have it placed for maximum comfort over looks. Also isn't your front brake caliper mounted on the other side of the fork normally? Nevermind I see the brake changed after 1977.

Keep sharing as it progresses.

Yeah I may get those dimensions from ya. Also towards the end of July is Muskegon Bike Time (google it) its pretty cool usually like 20,000 bikes downtown is bikes only traffic. Not a ton of customs but a good time all the same

I plan on havin some type of event at least monthly at the shop this year. Had a couple every 3-4 months last year, always was a good time. Bands, beer. Bikes on the bricks in Sept is always a good time. We're prime spot. Damn just the thought makes me jones for summer.

I made a seat pan and added a rear loop/grab bar to tie the shocks together. I just could'nt get the small Bates seat to look good with the curve of the frame tubes and feel good. This puts me a little lower and further back and I'm liking the feel of the back.

that little loop really finishes it off nicely

I'm having the same issue as you. I rolled my tubing similar to yours. I have an old Drag Specialties seat and made a hoop to fit around the back of it, but I still don't think it looks right. I also plan to make a new seat. It's vital. Nice bike BTW

Ok I need some opinions, I had a narrow front fender mounted to the swing arm and I thought there was too much space between the seat and fender. So I tried a rear fender mounted to the frame, dont like the space between the fender and tire but i think it looks better. I'm using 3" of travel with the stock shocks. Then for grins I stuck a muffler on it, I would use the passenger peg mounts to mount them. What do you think??

For the fender maybe I would look into frame mounting it like you have it but try shortening it. I think it is just following the tire to far back. I would use a piece of scrap metal or a shitty fender to keep your options open. I tried to make a fender once by hand that didnt turn out. Im in Madison Heights if you want its yours to cut up and try things with so you dont fuck up your good one. I like the placement of the exhaust.

Well changed my seat again, didnt like the loop. Fender is mounted to the swingarmagain just need to make rear braces. was a sunny day so I rolled it out for a few pictures. I am making some angled turn out intakes right now.

when you get the struts for the fender can you post some pics I am battling with the same problem and is that the front fender on the rear? What size rear tire? thanks

mtrcty
03-28-2011, 4:45 AM
Hey miller 0613,yes its a front fender and a stock rear tire.I made a short sissy bar/fender brace I didn't like also.I will post when I get something ,I think I could have made a couple of bikes with all the parts I have fabbed up 2or 3 times!

miller0613
03-28-2011, 10:32 AM
yeah I altered my rear tubes by moving them forward and couldnt find suitable shocks for the angle so now I have the viz impact brat kit with rebel shocks and am trying to use the original seat rails and loop so we will see bit with swingarm and mounting the fender I am still searching for ideas. May may a small sissy also but mounting it on the swingarm is trick because I have mags and a caliper on the one side

Finally have it on the road, a few short shake down runs and everything for the most part seems good.I have a rattle/knock noise come in and out at steady cruise speeds. re set the valves and seems better but not completely gone yet.
