12-18-2010, 2:42 AM
Ah hell i suck at this computer stuff. Got started on the hardtail for my 80 kz1000 today. i took the swingarm and moved it back and up untill i got the stretch and height i was looking for. Then i tacked the axle bolt to the frame as a redneck jig. I then used a laser down the backbone to keep the tire centered and tacked the swingarm to the axle bolt. I bought a TC BROS universal hardtail kit and modified it. It came with 20mm axle plates but i chose to keep the stock set up so i wouldnt have to worry about any spacer issues later on. Im really doing this on a low budget. I cut and coped the bottom rails and got them all tacked in. Monday i hope to get the top rails done. The picture with the tank on it is a ruff mock up.

looks good man, what are you going to do with back part of the original frame?

12-18-2010, 11:56 AM
The motor cradle is staying and Gina tie it into the top tubes. When it's done I'll cut the swingarm out and do a vertical brace similar to the old dominator drag frame

Like a politician shes spineless....Didint have alot of time in the shop today after doing last minute x-mas shit. I figured the best way to get the back bone looking right is to make one yourself. Cut the old stuff out and decided to replace it with 1 1/4 dom it should give me some more strength and it will look better thatn the old small one. Hoping tommorow to get the back bone and top rail in place so i can move on to getting the mids and fender mocked up

Oh and wheres my design sticker fool?????????? the p-nut boys all have em

01-16-2011, 10:29 PM
Great job on the frame. What's your plan for the axle plates to clean em up?

01-18-2011, 9:58 PM
Preciate it Wompy means alot coming from you. Ive cut the swingarm down where the line is and made some 3/8 plate gussets that meet up to the axle plates. Ive also cleaned up the neck area and made some gussets as well. Hoping to get some more done on this tomorrow..

01-19-2011, 1:30 PM
Frame is done....Time for redneck powdercoat (spray bomb) and then get the motor back in to line up the wheel and figure out the rest of the build.

01-26-2011, 7:34 PM
Paint is done. I used a VHT epoxy paint. It looks good and seems to be pretty durable for spray bomb. Spent 2 hours cleaning the motor and realized when i was done that it looked good stock and decided not to paint it. Waiting on my new o-ring chain and neck bearing to get her a complete roller...

01-27-2011, 3:58 PM
lookin good!
this thing should mortally fly.
you should weigh it after you are done.i have built some swingarms and re-used the axle plates and built the rest with chro-mo.it seemed like no matter how clean i got the jap metal the tig never did like it .
is the engine stock?

Looks killer man, can't wait to see more.

What're your plans for the tank?

01-27-2011, 4:23 PM
Looks killer mate.

01-28-2011, 1:56 PM
fat guy on a little bike....Gonna trim the fender way down and run a short bitch bar out back. Dont want the ladys flying off the back when this thing stands up 90degrees:) The tank is a 2.4 mustang style. This is the look im sticking with. Still have a ton of little pain in the butt things to do, but im getting stoked on the outcome. As far as the motor the guy that had it before me said it had a cam in it but i dont know for sure. Hell its a 1000 and honestly doesnt need much more than what it has. Thanks for looking yall... Hopefully yall can do the REVENGE RUN and ill fly past ya..

01-28-2011, 3:08 PM
that bike looked alot different on the revenge run last year. much better now! gimmie that seat.

Been away for a while working 3 jobs and being a dad. Got into the shop and hit it hard today. All fab is done, all welding is done, now its down to spray painting everything, wiring the bike and wait for my boy to finish the rebuild of the carbs. Im thinking a week barring any unseen issues.

02-18-2011, 3:22 AM
What carbs you got on that thing?

02-19-2011, 1:48 AM
Just the stock mikunis. He went thru them and were replacing the acelerator pump, floats and bowl gaskets. The bowls were a wreck, alot of water damage. Everything else was good suprisingly..Wheres my Fat guy shirt WOMPY???

02-19-2011, 3:25 AM

Its the stock header pipe with the megaphone removed. Went to NAPA and bought a exhaust turnout and welded it on.

03-23-2011, 11:54 PM
you mind throwing up a picture?

Yea man no sweat. I'll take one tomorrow. I work today and tonight

03-25-2011, 12:45 PM
you mind throwing up a picture?

here you go man. Theses are on the ground so you get an idea of my clearance. About 3inches to the lowest point. I catch em in lefties but i think im gonna remedy that tonight. Gona heat up my pipes and bend them up a touch, also going to "oval" the end of em to give me a little more clearance.

03-01-2012, 8:11 PM
man you bike came out killer man.... was it hard to dial in the carbs with those pods and the exhaust

03-03-2012, 9:50 AM
could you PLEASE show how you wired
it up?

03-03-2012, 3:19 PM
Make sure you check kickstand clearance before you bend the pipe up higher. Looks good though.

03-03-2012, 4:29 PM
I want that seat...

03-04-2012, 6:48 PM
I have a kz650 and your bike showed me exactly what I needed to remedy the ugliness of the stock frame for a hardtail build! Looks sick!

03-07-2012, 12:52 AM
Pretty sure this bike is sold. The thread has been dead for nearly a year.
