View Full Version : Vespas and other scooters

I know what some of you will say... like "Vespas are gay" or "Scooters are girly shit" and all but does anyone of you own and/or ride Vespas or Lambrettas?
I own a 1960 Vespa T4, built in Germany, with a Vespa PX 80ccm engine that I hopped up with a 139ccm kit.

shit yea cut my teeth on and fell in love with mechanics on the same p200 that is still in my garage. shit havent kicked her over in 12+ years but I miss that thing had a malossi race cylinder t5 gears and any other trick shit that I could find at the time that thing would do 90 I cought so much shit when I passed my mom on the high way (It wasn't a scarry motorcycle.) what the fuck ever 50mph on a unibody with 10 inch wheels is twice as scarry as a 100 on a honda.

12-02-2010, 11:01 PM
by the way Are you sure about that never heard of a 60 T4 that thing looks 60s from the headlight housing but "T4" last I checked t4s where newer than p series just before the e2's and e4's

12-03-2010, 12:30 AM
Yeah, I'm sure about T4. Has nothing to do with T5. It was produced between 1959 and 1963 in Augsburg, Germany. It's a kind of mix between Vespa VBB and Vespa GL. It was equipped with an old 150ccm engine (less power than the newer 80ccm engines) and 10 inch wheels. Lot of fun to ride.
Here's a video clip a friend of mine shot. The music sucks...
I'm the guy passing by right at the start ;)

...no shit, this is the last place I thought I'd see a scooter post. Someone saw my latest sporster project and asked if I'd give him a hand with thier bike...I said yes, and the next thing I know I have a half stripped Vespa knock off from the eights and shit load of parts in boxes...

I always wanted one of these to F with, but they are FN exspensive.
anyway, this thing is a 150 scoot with a brand new crate 200cc engine. Not sure what to do with it...

12-22-2010, 2:25 PM
first of all, take some pic and post them
then rebuild and ride the shit out of that fucker.
a friend of mine had a pretty hopped up lambretta with an motorcycle carb and cylinder. you could go 80km/h, shift up and still do a wheelie. angry beast.
most people are suprised when they see how much power you can get out of those scooters.

12-23-2010, 11:03 PM
I had a px150 with a malossi 180 kit on it,cut down, drops and it was a blast, went under a bus on it(i wasriding without a license,i was 16 in England) got up,kicked it back up and rode that thing for 2 years.
Always fancied a Lambretta,one day!!

12-24-2010, 7:48 AM
I cut my teeth on old Vespa and Lambrettas in the 80s and 90s. I had a knack for making them go fast and nothing was more exciting then chopping them up. I sill get the random one through BeerBreed for repair or rebuild for old friends that haven't figured out they arent 140lbs anymore and at 230lbs they look like a circus show riding the pile down the road.

12-27-2010, 7:49 PM
had a p200
a sears sprint ( the one year they were made)
and a lambretta 150 special

By any other name...

i have a nice early 90's Honda scooter I have held onto for years. I have always wanted to swap in a CR500 or a new 4 stroke dirtbike motor and make a killer fast scooter.

Bikes are bikes. even stupid bikes...somewhere under there is a cool bike. just takes the right person to bring it out.

01-05-2011, 1:43 PM
I picked up a 49cc Metro for my wife about a month ago..its pretty fun to scoot around on

01-06-2011, 5:27 AM
Less talk, more pictures ;)
Last year we had a run to end the "season". there were about 100 scooters, some of them with sidecar and even a rare Vespa car.
I'll try to get some pictures, here are some I already got, I'm the guy with the golden lid.

Heres my 65 Li 150 Special. A pretty rare thing in BC Canada.

I had a couple of Vespas over the years. The last one was this 125GTR with a good running Polini 177 kit tuned motor. Some asshole stole the bike in 2006

Good thread, but expect some kats to talk shit about them. You're never gonna please the fucks who ride bandwagons (add cool bike here_____) and drive up the price of two-wheeled machines. Ride what you want and build it the way you want...FTW

10-07-2011, 7:28 PM
this just proves its not what you ride but that you ride.

i've always wanted to see someone build a small chopper out of one of these

01-20-2012, 6:01 PM
I still have a PX200 vespa to this day. Back in the 80s we rode lambretta chops and theres loads of them about.

01-20-2012, 7:23 PM
Doesn't compare to my Sporty, but scooters are fun as fuck.

I have a Chinese cheap shit Vespa knock-off 150cc Bashan under the Eagle name. I bought it for my chick cuz she wanted to ride one, but then she got a bit nervous about it, so we still have it and since my Sportster is a solo seat only, I use it to take her out for a ride when we can.

We have a blast on it. So next summer, I'm going to get rid of this hunk of Chinese shit and get something real. Vespa's are awesome and all, but I was looking at these Genuine 4 stroke, 4 speed Stella's at a local dealership. Just to have something a little different.

01-24-2012, 12:11 PM
I was just on the CoC blog and saw their scooter chop. cool looking bike, like Zero style.

I've been listening to AtomRotten talk about Vespas and Lambrettas for a dozen years now. So happy to see he finally has a place to share his knowledge on this subject with people who will appreciate it.

04-29-2012, 10:04 AM
Rust in Pieces. Gone to Vespa Heaven..

05-14-2012, 4:54 PM

My Ruckus..

05-15-2012, 9:14 AM
i use to have a 77 px150 till it got stolen that shit was fun

05-26-2012, 3:07 PM
I've had a couple of p200's, a 64 v90, I think a 74 primavera, a 74 rally 200, a 64 tv175 with imola kit, mikuni tm28 and taffspeed pipe and a 70 dl125 with imola, phbh 28, clubman exhaust, gp200 primary gearing, vietnamese front disc conversion. That was my last scoot, it was a blast but I wanted more. Vespas don't cut it anymore and you start finding out which Indian replacement parts are the weak link when you start kitting lambrettas

05-27-2012, 3:39 PM
I remember reading scootering magazine when i was in school, and there was a lambretta chopper called Exile,a year or so later there was Exile II,guy who built em,Russell Mitchell!!

Spent much of the early eighties through the early nineties riding Lambrettas and Vespas, and was a founding member of the Checkered Demons SC. Someone posted this pic of me on Facebook not too long ago. It's one of a pair of Lambretta SX 200s I owned back then. One of these days I'll need to scan the tons of pics I have lying around from all the rallies.

Still collecting dust in my garage are a pair of disassembled Lambrettas: a Series 2 150, and a Series 3 125 (seen on the top shelf).

07-11-2012, 6:34 PM
I dig my scoot, but I think I'd be happier trading it for an old ironhead. Or better, a shovel :D

07-13-2012, 8:42 AM
I do like scooters myself, a couple of years back i had a nice Lambretta series 2 LI 150,
I just wanted somethig differant at the time inbetween other bikes.
