I've got some stock shocks off an 81 kz650 that i replaced with struts but i've been considering puttin em back on, but i want to lower them by about 3 inches. can i just chop the coils? i'm worried about if i do it, the shocks will be able to move up and past the length of the coil, since so much of its missing.

Its not like i plan on jumping this bike or anything, but if for some reason that rear wheel leaves the ground i dont want the back wheel dropping down and fucking things up.

anybody with some experience with this? thanks

I tried cutting my stock ones about 2 inches. When I wasnt sitting on the bike the shock would raise high enough that the spring would slip out of the "cup" that the spring is supposed to sit between. Kind of sucked to have to make sure it was in that "cup" everytime so I just got a cheap set of 10" shocks.

I got them from this place. All the way at the bottom of the page and I guess they were 11" and not 10 like I said. http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/Index_Main_Frame.htm . I didnt do a lot of research on finding them at the time so may be a cheaper or better place to get them from. Ive had these for about a year or so and they are working fine, glad they werent any shorter as I woulda ran into some clearence issues.

Link wasnt a direct link like I wanted but just go to chassis then suspension then rear shocks and theyre at the bottom of that page.

Get a pair of drop shackles, lowering blocks, whatever the fuck they call them nowadays.

CRC online is a great place to get factory parts cheap. I've dealt with them in the past and have had good experiences. Fairly priced too.

Suzuki savage s40 shocks are pretty low. Like I told you for that other bike. They look about the same style so they might work.

Get some stock sportster shocks.

And learn to be ok with spending money on bikes, especially if you want to customize them. Gotta pay to play, mang.

the shocks from burly are 10 1/2 eye to eye with 1" of travel. its more bouncy than before but a lot better than a hardtail. I dont know how long the sportster shocks are normally but these are lowering shocks for the sporty. 170.00 and no wondering am i gonna bottom out and get bucked off on the bad streets in san diego
