View Full Version : Am I crazy to pay?

Ok I just came across a 66 Triumph T100SC 500cc cafe racer for $2250.
I went over and road it. Took 3 kicks to start, Sounds great, looks good. The tach is after market and it is slightly taller than the speedo, non original mufflers, numbers do not match; but is legal and has the "out of state inspection form" from when he bought it (for $3000 a few years ago) new tires, the 12 volt new after market electrical system, a few chips in the paint. Is it worth that amount? The reason I ask is I've always lusted after Triumphs (it IS my favorite bike) and I'm easily distracted by shinny things. I want the bike so much I kind of have my blinders on, I need some voices of reason to drowned out the voices screaming "BUY IT YOU DUMBSHIT!!!" I can get a loan for 75% of the cost (already approved at the bank).

What do you think?

Just make double and triple sure there is nothing screwy with EITHER of the non-matching frame OR engine numbers. Title is in the seller's name too.

But yes, for that money it is a great deal.

OK, update. I offered him $2000 for it, he decided to try Ebay....... It sold for $1950. So less the $150 posting, $1800, so his loss...... Who am I kidding, it's my loss; but such is life.

Damn!! Where are these deals when I'm lookin'?

Shit, I just took out a lone to buy that bike and he sold it! I was a bit pissed, because it's a sweet bike. Oh well, hopefully my banker gets me the cash soon; but now all the good deals will be gone and my wife will spend it for me......

everybody's screaming what a great "deal" it is, when in my opinion - it's really not. it's a 500. not a 650. if it were a 650 then it would be a "great deal". 500's do not hold the value even close to the 650's. it seems to me the going rate for (numbers matching) 500's is only about $1800 to 2K. i see people all the time trying to sell them for over 2500 & it hardly ever happens. if you look hard enough i'm sure you can find the same if not better deal quite soon, man.

good luck
