ive got an 83 im about to do something with. not entirely sure what yet. strip the fuck out of it and hardtail i imagine.

the newer ones are way too bulky for my liking. even the early 80's are pushing it, but not nearly as bad as the later ones.

well ill try to keep you guys updated... im trying to find new triple trees the stock ones are very limited. and i still have to work out the fender deal... not to mention all the evap crap and the terrible air box ugh so much to do

so it looks like theres gonna be quite alot to do to get this bike even remotly streamlined. it has a drive shaft and i can extend the swing arm because of it. anyone know anything about converting it to a chain drive??

AliBobber
08-30-2009, 10:01 PM
just found this online kinda of a good idea... i guess its time to put my bike out of commission for a while... or i can find an extra shaft drive with axle from a junk yard and i can fab it up...

i'm actually working on my buddy's 86 shadow 700 right now. i got some questions about cutting the fender rails. how close to the shock mount welds can you cut? we don't want to cut them too close and have my buddy's ass dragging on the tire. we're running it without a rear fender for a while

I have an old '83 honda sabre with a shaft drive. I lost interest in it, my wife got it for me. I told her I wanted an old honda 750 " I meant a cb", but she didnt know that. So thats that. I guess I will just continue to strip it down and make it as cool as it can be.

Here's my chicks bike with some super mild mods: bars, new rear fender and struts, yanked the front fender, signals, pipes, hardtail strut, risers(from stock to 6", to 1"),side mount plate and tail light, and hacked ass seat. As far as needed shit: new tires, new chain tune up the carb.

i dont understand the concern some of you have with the drive shaft? just extend the shaft..

i dont have a shadow, but i have an 83 nighhawk with shaft drive. i just hardtailed the frame.. no i didnt take the easy route and strut it, i actually hardtailed it, and extended it back 5' and then extended the driveshaft 5"

sup guys, i usually hang out in the American side, thought id throw my Shadow in here to just to see what yall thought. got it from my next door neighbors son for $1800 with 9000 on the clock. 2002 600cc still a softail, no hardtail struts or anything. was my first, now my wife rides it. pretty much all stock except for the spring seat, chopped off tail section, rear fender made from angle iron and the old front fender, handmade zee/drag bars, and hole sawed exhaust. the first pic is the day i got it, first things first, i ripped the front fender off and rattle canned it Krylon Satin Black. the other pics are current condition with a flat rear tire due to a hole literally being ridden into it, next to my 88 Sporty. feel free to thrash!

wow, someone actually started a shadow bobber thread! Whoop!

I built my own bobber, base of the build was a 2006 VT600CD Shadow, aka VLX.

I am almost done with another built VLX, had slim do the frame and tank, and now im building custom tanks for the shadow dual backbone. I pretty much work exclusively on shadows or current Hondas, no plastic mosquitoes though. Ill have to get some snaps of the current bike but heres a few pics of mine.

motorlou
02-28-2011, 9:40 AM
the frame is actually an old cb750 framei had laying around(no title). the original frame was just too rotted and crashed to the point it was just easier to get another one. i re-assigned the shadows vin to the cb750 frame and let's just leave it at that!! i used wheels off of an xs1100 shafty cause the original wheels sucked ass. my friend will be drilling the speedholes in the spokes before it's all said and done. i cut the shaft in half and mated it to the rear half of the xs1100 shaft. they have slightly different diameters so i had my buddy wompy machine me a sleeve that would add 7 inches of stretch and snug fit for the 2 different diameters of the shafts. the last great obstacle was the radiator. i bought one off ebay which is roughly half the size of the original, i am sure it will be getting slightly warm over the summer but that just means you'll have to drive faster to cool it down!! ha ha ha btw, that little bike hauls ass

Here's some pics of my 98' Shadow 750 ACE. Just got into this and it's consuming me rapidly. I've started with the usual cosmetics and am moving into working on carb adjustment etc.

Just put these billet aluminum struts on which lowered the bike about 3" and gives it a whole new feel which I love.

Not it's time for a new solo seat and fender.

Just had to drill out the riser holes on the top tree...I think it's with a 1/2" bit...took like five minutes lol. The holes that are there are close so it's a pretty easy job. I'll have to check for pics...

My first bike is my 88 shadow vlx, I have refused to do major changes on it, cuz it is my first street bike! I did remove the shock and steel rodded it, then put fish tails onit with my own way of giving it back pressure, then removed all the crap , like, turn signals, front brakes, and the disc too, speedometer, gone!!!! and my leather werx I do for all of our personal things!!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/swinewerx/001-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/swinewerx/004-1.jpg my shadow is nothing compared to a lot of you guy's here!!!!

I have no real idea about these bikes but a friend at work just offered me an 02 shadow sabre 1100 for about a buck per cc. He has it all cheesedicked out with chrome, vance pipes, footboards ect.

How do these things ride? is it even worth the hassle? the frame looks like a bitch to get an aftermarket tank that isn't super customed to sit right and turning one of these rigid without a chain on it seems to me kind of difficult. This is one of those direct drive models

ercle69

i prefer the 600's, but that seems pretty cheap for the bike, although i wouldnt buy it for those very reasons.

Although I enjoy actually ripping off lame accessories more than anything in the world in front of the owner before loading up the bike on the truck and asking them if I can use their garbage can. I think I'm going to put my grand into other endeavors

Thanks. The seat pan was actually already a solo and I got it from an '83 Shadow. I reupholstered, cut & ground it down to fit my bike. Also made a bracket to mount it onto the frame.

any shadows with a drive shaft bobbed thats where it gets tricky

just take the shaft to a driveshaft shop and have them shorten it. once it is hard tailed you can get rid of the connection housing.

I'm looking for new bars, pipes and maybe a few other things to finish it up, I wanna put a new tank on it too, but I got to find a job first to start bringing that money in.

But you never know they might show back up...

Good luck...
